Objective: to describe characteristics of central serous chorioretinophaty (CSC) patients in Sang... more Objective: to describe characteristics of central serous chorioretinophaty (CSC) patients in Sanglah General Hospital, correlation between visual acuity and foveal thickness before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy, the differences of visual acuity and foveal thickness of CSC's patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy. Methods: This study is a descriptive study, than followed by cross sectional study. Data were collected retrospectively from medical report of CSC patients who came to Sanglah General Hospital during period Januari 1 st 2010 until December 31 st 2011. Results: Central serous chorioretinopathy were found in 22 patients (22 eyes), male predominance (72.7%), majority were in age group 30-40 years (54.55%), and all of cases were unilateral. Most of CSC patients worked as private employees (77.3%). Mean onset patients presented to the hospital was 14.64±5.68 days, with the most common symptom was decreasing vision (86.4%). Mean of follow ups in CSC patients were 64.11±6.15 days. There was correlation between visual acuity and foveal thickness before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy, respectively r=0.76; p=0.001 and r=0.73; p=0.001 (Spearman test). The differences between visual acuity of CSC patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy was significant (0.55±0.26 logMAR vs 0.11±0.12 logMAR; p=0.001; Wilcoxon test). The differences between foveal thickness of CSC patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy was also significant (484.23±6.42 vs 258.41±4.21; p=0.001; Wilcoxon test). Conclusions: CSC patients was male predominance, majority in decade 3-4, all of cases were unilateral and most of the patients worked as private employees. There is a strong correlation between visual acuity and foveal thickness before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy. A significant differences found in visual acuity and foveal thickness of CSC's patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy. In this study, the role of oral acetazolamide in clinical resolution improvement of CSC'patients can not be concluded. Further study with control group needed to find it's role.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes. ... more Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes. Several studies have emphasized the importance of platelet activation in the pathogenesis of DR. Platelet activation can be known by examination of platelet indices, ie Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), and Platelet Distribution Width (PDW). Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between MPV, PDW and staging of DR, as one of the markers of disease progression. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study at Sanglah Eye Clinic conducted from July to October 201. A total of 51 samples with DR were categorized based on the staging of DR, namely Non-Proliferative DR (NPDR) and Proliferative DR (PDR). Each group of staging was performed platelet indice (MPV and PDW) examination. Result: The correlation coefficient (r) was obtained-0.75 (p = 0.603) for MPV. Logistic regression test between MPV value and DR showed no association between MPV increasing and DR staging. B value 0.015, with Odd Ratio (OR) 1.015, 95% confidence interval and p value = 0.944. Spearman correlation test between PDW and DR staging obtained correlation coefficient (r) of = 0,006 (p=0,967). Logistic regression test between PDW value and diabetic staging of retinopathy showed no correlation between increasing PDW and degree of DR. B value 0.148, with Odd Ratio (OR) 1,160, 95% confidence interval and p value = 0,592. Conclusion : this study showed that is no correlation between Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) and the degree of DR.

Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an indicator that reflects the percentage of blood glucose tied to hemoglobin for the past three months. This study aims to determine if a high level of HbA1c increases the prevalence of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Cross-sectional study. The participants were DM patients who were diagnosed with PDR and NPDR for the first time and HbA1c level was checked in the laboratory. Of the 74 participants, 37 participants were PDR, and 37 participants were NPDR. The ratio of prevalence (PR) was 3.87, with Confident of Interval (CI 95%): 1.96-7.67 and p < 0.001. Multivariate analysis shows Odd Ratio (OR) of HbA1c is 18.319 (5.334-62.919) and p < 0.001. High level of HbA1c as a risk factor of high prevalence of PDR.

Dalam keadaan normal ABSTRACT Background: Traumatic cataract is a cataract that occurs as a result of injury to the eye which can be a sharp or blunt trauma that is seen after a few days or several years. This traumatic cataract can occur acute, subacute, or residual symptoms of eye trauma, often due to an injury caused by a foreign object that hits the lens or blunt trauma to the eyeball. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of traumatic cataract sufferers which included the characteristics of age, sex, and occupation at the Sanglah Central Hospital in Denpasar, Bali. Method: This study was descriptive with a cross-sectional study design. This research is retrospective and uses secondary data obtained from medical records. Result: Results of the study with cross sectional descriptive test showed that 58.3% of cases occurred in the male sex and 41.7% in women. The age ranges from 5 years to 69 years with an average sample age of 38.25 + 2.6 years. The occupations that dominated were students and farmers with a percentage of 25% each, followed by housewives with a percentage of 16.7%. Conclusion: In this study traumatic cataracts were found to be more common in male rice, with an average age of 38 years and occupations as students and farmers. Based on clinical characteristics, the eyes most affected by traumatic cataracts are the left eye and the most common cause is blunt trauma.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is an infection of the eye caused by bacteria, such as Staphylococcus, S... more Bacterial conjunctivitis is an infection of the eye caused by bacteria, such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, or Haemophilus. Based on 30% of visits in the Department of Eye Disease in the United States, 15% are conjunctivitis complaints caused by bacteria and virus, and 15% are conjunctivitis complaints caused by allergy. A common complication of conjunctivitis is the decreased visual acuity that greatly affects the patient in performing daily activities. Aim: This study aimed to determine the knowledge level of semester VI students of Doctor Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, toward conjunctivitis. Method: The samples were 70 people with 10% relative accuracy. Sampling was done by random sampling technique. The data were collected by using questionnaire technique. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. Result: The result of the students' knowledge level on bacterial conjunctivitis was 62 respondents (89%) were in good category, 8 respondents (11%) were in moderate category, and none for poor category (0) as well. The knowledge level of the respondent toward bacterial conjunctivitis at the age of 21 years was quite good, that were 31 people (44.5%). Respondents with moderate knowledge level at the age of 21 years were 5 people. Conclusion: The result of the test shows that the level of students' knowledge on bacterial conjunctivitis is that 62 respondents (89%) are in good category. Therefore, to the management of Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, this research is expected to be used as a reference in formulating various learning strategies, so the learning achievement can be improved.

Cataract occurs not only due to the age factor, but also can occur in children born with these conditions or congenital factors. This study aimed to find out visual acuity outcome after senile cataract surgery at RSUP Sanglah Denpasar on October 2016-June 2017 period. Method: The type of this research was descriptive cross-sectional conducted at RSUP of Sanglah Denpasar using the medical records of the period of October 2016-June 2017. The sampling technique used the total sampling, with the number of samples of 32 subjects. The result of this research was processed by using a computer software. Result: The postoperative patients with poor outcome tended to be experienced by the senile cataract of mature group compared to the immature that was around 9.1%, borderline outcome tended to be experienced by group with immature senile cataract of 23.8% while the dominant senile cataract outcome was 81.8%. Patients undergoing SICS procedures tended to have a poor outcome compared to those undergoing a phacoemulsification procedure of 16.7%. Borderline outcome tended to the group undergoing phacoemulsification procedures, and 83.3% of the good outcome tended to be experienced by the group undergoing SICS procedures. Conclusion: This research concludes that good outcome come from cataract senile mature group (81.8%) and the group that doing SICS procedure (83.3%

This study aims to determine whether the expression of H1R primary pterygium tissue is higher than normal conjunctival tissue and the expression of H1R based on pterygium grades. This study was an analytic observational study with a case-control study approach at Sanglah General Hospital, Bali Mandara Eye Hospital, and Mangusada Hospital. The study was conducted from November 2017 to April 2018. The pterygium and conjunctival tissues obtained from 28 subjects in the same eye and examined for H1R expression by immunohistochemistry. Purpose: To know influence of artificial tear related with conjunctival goblet cell density in gl... more Purpose: To know influence of artificial tear related with conjunctival goblet cell density in glaucoma patient with latanoprost therapy. Method: Pre-posttest design with expanded randomized study. This study was performed at Eye Policlinic Sanglah Public Hospital Denpasar and Bali Mandara Hospital from October until December 2015. Forty eyes were taken for impression cytology specimen to search goblet cell density before and 30 days after therapy. Mean difference of goblet cell changes before and after therapy between case and control analyzed with independent t-test. Results: There were enhancements of conjunctival goblet cell mean density on group with artificial tear before and after therapy 83 + 97 cell/mm 2 to 92 + 88 cell/mm 2. There was reduction of conjunctival goblet cell mean density of group without artificial tear from 144 + 169 cell/mm 2 to 78 + 103 cell/mm 2. Mean difference between both group in this study differ not significant statistically (p=0,178). However, mean difference of conjunctival goblet cell density before and after therapy between both groups differ-75+ 54 cell/mm 2. Conclusions: Artificial tears have a considerable effect (important), although not statistically significantly.

The differences between foveal thickness of CSC patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy was also significant (484.23±6.42 vs 258.41±4.21; p=0.001; Wilcoxon test). Conclusions: CSC patients was male predominance, majority in decade 3-4, all of cases were unilateral and most of the patients worked as private employees. There is a strong correlation between visual acuity and foveal thickness before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy. A significant differences found in visual acuity and foveal thickness of CSC's patients before and after oral acetazolamide theraphy. In this study, the role of oral acetazolamide in clinical resolution improvement of CSC'patients can not be concluded. Further study with control group needed to find it's role.

Several studies have emphasized the importance of platelet activation in the pathogenesis of DR. Platelet activation can be known by examination of platelet indices, ie Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), and Platelet Distribution Width (PDW). Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between MPV, PDW and staging of DR, as one of the markers of disease progression. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study at Sanglah Eye Clinic conducted from July to October 201. A total of 51 samples with DR were categorized based on the staging of DR, namely Non-Proliferative DR (NPDR) and Proliferative DR (PDR). Each group of staging was performed platelet indice (MPV and PDW) examination. Result: The correlation coefficient (r) was obtained-0.75 (p = 0.603) for MPV. Logistic regression test between MPV value and DR showed no association between MPV increasing and DR staging. B value 0.015, with Odd Ratio (OR) 1.015, 95% confidence interval and p value = 0.944. Spearman correlation test between PDW and DR staging obtained correlation coefficient (r) of = 0,006 (p=0,967). Logistic regression test between PDW value and diabetic staging of retinopathy showed no correlation between increasing PDW and degree of DR. B value 0.148, with Odd Ratio (OR) 1,160, 95% confidence interval and p value = 0,592. Conclusion : this study showed that is no correlation between Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) and the degree of DR.

Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an indicator that reflects the percentage of blood glucose tied to hemoglobin for the past three months. This study aims to determine if a high level of HbA1c increases the prevalence of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Cross-sectional study. The participants were DM patients who were diagnosed with PDR and NPDR for the first time and HbA1c level was checked in the laboratory. Of the 74 participants, 37 participants were PDR, and 37 participants were NPDR. The ratio of prevalence (PR) was 3.87, with Confident of Interval (CI 95%): 1.96-7.67 and p < 0.001. Multivariate analysis shows Odd Ratio (OR) of HbA1c is 18.319 (5.334-62.919) and p < 0.001. High level of HbA1c as a risk factor of high prevalence of PDR.

Dalam keadaan normal ABSTRACT Background: Traumatic cataract is a cataract that occurs as a result of injury to the eye which can be a sharp or blunt trauma that is seen after a few days or several years. This traumatic cataract can occur acute, subacute, or residual symptoms of eye trauma, often due to an injury caused by a foreign object that hits the lens or blunt trauma to the eyeball. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of traumatic cataract sufferers which included the characteristics of age, sex, and occupation at the Sanglah Central Hospital in Denpasar, Bali. Method: This study was descriptive with a cross-sectional study design. This research is retrospective and uses secondary data obtained from medical records. Result: Results of the study with cross sectional descriptive test showed that 58.3% of cases occurred in the male sex and 41.7% in women. The age ranges from 5 years to 69 years with an average sample age of 38.25 + 2.6 years. The occupations that dominated were students and farmers with a percentage of 25% each, followed by housewives with a percentage of 16.7%. Conclusion: In this study traumatic cataracts were found to be more common in male rice, with an average age of 38 years and occupations as students and farmers. Based on clinical characteristics, the eyes most affected by traumatic cataracts are the left eye and the most common cause is blunt trauma.

Based on 30% of visits in the Department of Eye Disease in the United States, 15% are conjunctivitis complaints caused by bacteria and virus, and 15% are conjunctivitis complaints caused by allergy. A common complication of conjunctivitis is the decreased visual acuity that greatly affects the patient in performing daily activities. Aim: This study aimed to determine the knowledge level of semester VI students of Doctor Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, toward conjunctivitis. Method: The samples were 70 people with 10% relative accuracy. Sampling was done by random sampling technique. The data were collected by using questionnaire technique. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. Result: The result of the students' knowledge level on bacterial conjunctivitis was 62 respondents (89%) were in good category, 8 respondents (11%) were in moderate category, and none for poor category (0) as well. The knowledge level of the respondent toward bacterial conjunctivitis at the age of 21 years was quite good, that were 31 people (44.5%). Respondents with moderate knowledge level at the age of 21 years were 5 people. Conclusion: The result of the test shows that the level of students' knowledge on bacterial conjunctivitis is that 62 respondents (89%) are in good category. Therefore, to the management of Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, this research is expected to be used as a reference in formulating various learning strategies, so the learning achievement can be improved.

Cataract occurs not only due to the age factor, but also can occur in children born with these conditions or congenital factors. This study aimed to find out visual acuity outcome after senile cataract surgery at RSUP Sanglah Denpasar on October 2016-June 2017 period. Method: The type of this research was descriptive cross-sectional conducted at RSUP of Sanglah Denpasar using the medical records of the period of October 2016-June 2017. The sampling technique used the total sampling, with the number of samples of 32 subjects. The result of this research was processed by using a computer software. Result: The postoperative patients with poor outcome tended to be experienced by the senile cataract of mature group compared to the immature that was around 9.1%, borderline outcome tended to be experienced by group with immature senile cataract of 23.8% while the dominant senile cataract outcome was 81.8%. Patients undergoing SICS procedures tended to have a poor outcome compared to those undergoing a phacoemulsification procedure of 16.7%. Borderline outcome tended to the group undergoing phacoemulsification procedures, and 83.3% of the good outcome tended to be experienced by the group undergoing SICS procedures. Conclusion: This research concludes that good outcome come from cataract senile mature group (81.8%) and the group that doing SICS procedure (83.3%

Method: Pre-posttest design with expanded randomized study. This study was performed at Eye Policlinic Sanglah Public Hospital Denpasar and Bali Mandara Hospital from October until December 2015. Forty eyes were taken for impression cytology specimen to search goblet cell density before and 30 days after therapy. Mean difference of goblet cell changes before and after therapy between case and control analyzed with independent t-test. Results: There were enhancements of conjunctival goblet cell mean density on group with artificial tear before and after therapy 83 + 97 cell/mm 2 to 92 + 88 cell/mm 2. There was reduction of conjunctival goblet cell mean density of group without artificial tear from 144 + 169 cell/mm 2 to 78 + 103 cell/mm 2. Mean difference between both group in this study differ not significant statistically (p=0,178). However, mean difference of conjunctival goblet cell density before and after therapy between both groups differ-75+ 54 cell/mm 2. Conclusions: Artificial tears have a considerable effect (important), although not statistically significantly.
