When the rotor is connected in series with the stator with opposite phase sequence, the motor can start and reach a speed close to synchronous speed. It has been also shown that motors under this mode can operate at double synchronous speed. The main objectives of this

The proposed concept is based on coordination between Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and Thyristor Controlled Braking Resistor (TCBR). This coordination will enhance the stability of the inertial and torsional oscillatory modes. The study is performed on system-1 of the second IEEE benchmark for simulation of Sub-Synchronous

This is due to their several advantages such as relatively small size, low losses, market availability, and low cost. In this paper, a stator voltage control of three-phase induction motor by using thyristors is analyzed and simulated in details. The stator voltage has been controlled by phase

This model is based on direct phase quantities and is suitable to study the performance of the generator under any balanced or unbalanced conditions. It includes a general load as well as general excitation capacitor model. The model has the advantage of connecting or disconnecting the neutral points of the generator electrical system with both excitation capacitors and load. Furthermore, a more accurate magnetization curve is used. Moreover, the simulation results have been verified experimentally.

These strategies depend on varying the stator ac voltage to control the speed of threephase induction motor. These strategies are phase angle control (PAC), extinction angle control (EAC), and modified phase angle control (MPAC). The first control strategy is carried out using three back to back thyristors connected in series with motor terminals. The other two techniques are used with converter having six bidirectional switches. Performance evaluation of the motor under these switching techniques is shown. Simulation of the system is carried out by PSIM computer program. The simulation results show stable operation for wide range of speed control. The level of harmonics in the supply currents and power factor have been also evaluated for different control strategies.

Synchronisation problem of high performance reluctance motors
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 1997
ABSTRACT The paper reports an investigation of the synchronisation problem of three phase high pe... more ABSTRACT The paper reports an investigation of the synchronisation problem of three phase high performance reluctance motors. This problem stems from the fact that these motors can have extremely high reactance ratio and hence a significant pull-out torque. While this is a welcomed property from a steady state stability point of view, it can make the process of synchronisation a difficult task. To carry out this investigation a rigorous state space model in the original phase values reference frame was developed and simulated. The developed model takes into consideration the effect of torsional dynamics. This is augmented by a steady state analysis based on Park's two-axis reference frame

This paper presents a rigorous treatment of the starting problem of a salient pole synchronous mo... more This paper presents a rigorous treatment of the starting problem of a salient pole synchronous motor driving a complex multicompressor load. This is aimed at analysing the resulting torsional oscillations and calculating the different transmitted torques and twist angles of the multi-shaft assembly. For this purpose, the necessary mathematical models and corresponding digital simulation are developed. The results obtained show that there is a pressing need for taking care of the torsional effects on the different shafts during the design stage, otherwise serious problems could arise.

The switching signals are obtained from parallel port of PC computer for controlling the output voltage of three-phase ac chopper. The new proposed scheme depends on increasing the stator voltage gradually without increasing the stator current than reference value. The ac chopper used with this strategy is having six bidirectional switches. The new strategy can be used with any PC computer with any processor speed and for all the starting conditions of three-phase induction motor. The soft switching technique can be used also in speed control of induction motor after starting period. Simulation of the system is carried out by PSIM computer program. The simulation results show stable operation for different loading conditions. The simulation results have been compared with the experimental results from laboratory prototype. The experimental results are very near to simulation results.
