This article reviews the body of research on difficulties faced by dyslexic students in education... more This article reviews the body of research on difficulties faced by dyslexic students in educational setup and different teaching methods which played an effective role in enhancing the learning skills of the students. First, we explore the assessment of comprehension and reading difficulties of these students at initial stages. Next we discuss the methodology used in reviewing the literature on different instructional methods for the students with specific focus on dyslexic students. Next we review the body of studies involving instructional methods for improving the comprehension and reading abilities of the students. This is followed by the research on techniques for improving the academic abilities. We conclude with a discussion of ongoing issues in the field with regards to identification, assessment and providing early intervention to dyslexic students, the need to include other computer assisted techniques like teach multiple strategies to students with specific focus on the “...

The developments in reading lags behind other academic developments. Achieved reading skill is limited. Reading is slow and non-word reading is impaired. The educational system has difficulties in understanding dyslexia and an even harder time identifying children with dyslexia in order to provide the correct intervention for students who are non – native English speakers. When a school has the added challenge of identifying struggling English language learners (ELLs), the task becomes an even more complicated process, and often, these kids are completely missed. But that does not have to be the case. Children who are learning English are just as likely to have dyslexia as their native-English-speaking counterparts, and there is a way to identify dyslexia in these children. This review aims to understand the implications Rizzolatti’s study of mirror neurons in animals t... more This review aims to understand the implications Rizzolatti’s study of mirror neurons in animals to estimate its role in human learning in particular context to language acquisition. Since the mirror neurons are shown to be activated when the subject observes and imitates others in the surrounding, the article further tries to probe the complexity of its functioning when it applies to human beings when compared with animals. Studies on anosognosia cases have shown that damage to mirror neurons impairs our ability to judge not only other’s actions but also their intentions, which points out the significance of mirror neurons in non verbal cue acquisition and hence the role in learning of verbal language. Further studies on EEG in humans have further elaborated the role of mirror neurons in learning in general, after comparing the MU wave activity in the EEG.
