barriers between farmers and researchers in the agribusiness field,
through the viewpoint of the latter. As the barriers were identified,
methodological strategies were developed to mitigate such barriers
seeking to improve effective two-way communication. As part of the
research, through collection of researchers’ experience reports, the main
communication difficulties they encountered during the research process
were identified. The study involved seven researchers who have diverse
professional experience. P1; P2; P3 and P4 researchers are linked to the
São Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP) and
presented experience reports that contributed to discussions proposed in
this paper. Three external researchers also played a part in these reports,
identified as E1; E2 and E3. One is linked to the Brazilian Agricultural
Research Corporation (Embrapa), another belongs to an organization of
private research linked to an agricultural cooperative and the third
investigator was a member of a group of American researchers who
conducted research in Brazil and reports on that experience. The
principal communication barriers identified by the researchers are
language, the media, personal strengths, geographical barriers and access
to information and communication technologies. The recommendations
to mitigate the identified barriers included the establishment of a
relationship of closeness and trust between farmers and researchers, the
verification of demands, feedback on messages and the use of instruments
and data collection appropriate to the producer, applied preferably on a
face-to-face basis.
