The application of Digital Twins is a promising solution for enhancing the efficiency of marine p... more The application of Digital Twins is a promising solution for enhancing the efficiency of marine power plant operation, particularly their important components -marine internal combustion engines (ICE). This work presents the concept of applying a Performance Digital Twin for monitoring the technical condition and diagnosing malfunctions of marine ICE, along with its implementation on an experimental test-bench, based on a marine diesel-generator. The main principles of implementing this concept involve data transmission technologies, from the sensors installed on the engine to a server. The Digital Twin, also operating on the server, is used to automatically process the acquired experimental data, accumulate statistics, determine the current technical state of the engine, identify possible malfunctions, and make decisions regarding changes in operating programs. The core element of the Digital Twin is a mathematical model of the marine diesel engine's operating cycle. In its development, significant attention was devoted to refining the fuel combustion model, as the combustion processes significantly impact both the engine's fuel efficiency and the level of toxic emissions of exhaust gases. The enhanced model differs from the base model, by considering the variable value of the average droplets' diameter during fuel injection. This influence on fuel vapourisation, combustion, and the formation of toxic components is substantial, as shown. Using the example of calibrating the model to the test results of a diesel engine under 27 operating modes, it is demonstrated that the application of the improved combustion model allows better adjustment of the Digital Twin to experimental data, thus achieving a more accurate correspondence to a real engine.

Висновки. Отже, урахування змінного значення середнього діаметра крапель палива протягом процесу впорскування дозволяє більш точно відобразити реальні процеси у двигуні, збільшити можливості налаштування й адаптування цифрового двійника. Водночас використання повною мірою отриманих додаткових можливостей моделі потребує оцінки або вимірювання характеристик впорскування палива під час роботи двигуна, вирішення цього завдання становить перспективу майбутніх досліджень. Introduction. Reliability and safety of electric ships' maneuverability depends on the maneuverin... more Introduction. Reliability and safety of electric ships' maneuverability depends on the maneuvering characteristics of their propulsion motors (PM). Therefore, the issues of improving the process of controlling propulsion motors at maneuvers are topical. The aim of this paper is to find the optimal laws of control. The indicators estimating electric ships' maneuvering properties are chosen as criteria of optimality. Methodology. A proportional control law is traditionally used in electrical propelling plants with frequency-controlled PM. However, it does not provide the necessary maneuvering characteristics to the electric ships, since it does not take into account the process of the vessel's movement. To search for the optimal control laws of propulsion motors at maneuvers, the electrical propulsion plant is considered in unity with all the components of the ship's propulsion complex. The dimensionless parameters of the complex are revealed from the mathematical model of the transient modes of its operation. They determine the numerical values of the optimality criteria. Control signals are formed by frequency and voltage. A method for the formation of optimal control laws is proposed. The nature of the target functions is revealed and a special optimization method is developed. A minimum of the braking distance and a minimum of energy spent on maneuvering are taken as criteria of optimality. Results. The parameters of the complexes that significantly affect the optimality criteria are revealed. For various combinations of the values of these parameters, optimization calculations have been carried out and the optimal control laws of the propulsion motors during electric ships' reversal have been found. Optimization is carried out by the criterion of the minimum of the braking distance and by the criterion of minimum energy consumption. The results are presented in an analytical form and in a graphical form. The effectiveness of the proposed control laws is illustrated. Scientific novelty. The method of searching for the optimal control laws of the propulsion motors is constructed according to the system principle. This allows us to find the control laws of the propulsion motors on the final result-on the indicators of electric ships' maneuverability. The proposed recommendations cover a wide class of vessels with electric motion. Practical value. The proposed optimal control laws for propulsion motors can be used both in the design of propulsion power plants and in their operation. The best control law can be selected and incorporated into the control system for any particular electric ship of the considered class, depending on the quality of maneuvering. In particular, the optimal control law for propulsion motors during reversal providing electric ship's minimum braking distance or minimum energy consumption for maneuvering can be chosen. It is demonstrated that measuring and analyzing the engine's vibrational diagrams in parallel with gas pressure diagrams in the cylinders allows the evaluation of the actual fuel injection and gas distribution timings. The obtained data is used to refine the mathematical model of the engine's working process, which determines the engine's indicator parameters and power, as well as the emission of harmful substances that need to be monitored in compliance with current IMO requirements. The authors have accumulated experience in using the discussed hardware-based methods for diagnosing marine engines during operation. С помощью методов параметрической диагностики были улучшены рабочие характеристики и повышена эко... more С помощью методов параметрической диагностики были улучшены рабочие характеристики и повышена экономичность среднеоборотных дизелей K6S310DR маневровых тепловозов ЧМЭ3. Индицирование проводилось системой мониторинга D4.0H до и после очередного ремонта дизеля на станции реостатных испытаний в локомотивном депо № 1, ОдессаСортировочная. Были выявлены и устранены неисправности в работе топливной аппаратуры высокого давления и механизма газораспределения. Особенности конструкции крышки цилиндра и установки форсунки дизеля K6S310DR позволили получить качественную картину топливоподачи и газораспределения на фоне развернутой p(φ) диаграммы рабочего процесса. В результате достигнуто равномерное распределение механических и тепловых нагрузок по цилиндрам дизеля, увеличен моторесурс и устранен перерасход топлива. The plans for ensuring utilization of the old vessels with use of the technologies approved by the International Marina Organization were considered by the European Commission on environmental issues. The draft of the resolution assumes control over processing of the vessels under the flag of the European Community (EU) countries or the vessels, which are regularly visiting EU ports on the approved objects worldwide. The purposes of the draft is to reduce the cases of negative consequences inevitable when processing ship scrap. To assess the choice and justify the ship cutting technology, the analysis of the techniques and an expert assessment of the various cutting indicators on 10-scale system of an assessment were carried out. This part of diagram begins after closing of inlet valves. It’s typically for the most of diesel engines that rate of change of pressure has the maximum before the beginning of combustion. It’s given in article the derivation of very interesting and important property of the point of fastest rate of change of pressure: position of this point depends only from dimensions of crank mechanism and compression ratio. It means that this point could be calculated before taking the indicator diagram of diesel engine.

Погодные условия позволили произвести индицирование всех цилиндров четырех главных дизелей 6VDS48/42AL-2U, в том числе произведена диагностика топливной аппаратуры (ТА) высокого давления, механизма газораспределения (МГР) и цилиндропоршневой группы (ЦПГ). Для определения параметров рабочего процесса была использована система компьютерного диагностирования D4.0H, разработанная на кафедре СЭУ и ТЭОНМУ.

Дальнейшее увеличение максимального давления заправки накопительного баллона в рассматриваемой конструкции ГПБ сопровождается заметным повышением энергозатрат и ограничено критической температурой ЛКЖ.

Malfunctions in the fuel injection and valve train systems can also be identified from the indicator diagrams of an engine operating cycle, expressed as P(V) and P(deg) diagrams. Водночас використання повною мірою отриманих додаткових можливостей моделі потребує оцінки або вимірювання характеристик впорскування палива під час роботи двигуна, вирішення цього завдання становить перспективу майбутніх досліджень. Malfunctions in the fuel injection and valve train systems can also be identified from the indicator diagrams of an engine operating cycle, expressed as P(V) and P(deg) diagrams. The basic parameters of the engine operating cycle, such as the maximum combustion pressure Pmax, compression pressure Pcompr, and indicated mean effective pressure IMEP, can also be used to indicate deviations from proper engine operation. The fuel injection equipment malfunctions as valve as valve train system malfunctions could be detected from the experimental indicated diagrams P(V), P(deg) of the engine cylinder operating process as it is known. The main indicators are the following: the shape of the diagram and the parameters of working cycle – the maximum combustion pressure Pmax, the compression pressure Pcomp, mean indicated pressure IMEP, etc. However, it should be considered that different types of malfunctions could have the same reflection on the indicated diagram.
