Methods: The chromatographic separation was performed on C18 (2) analytical column (5 μ, 250×4.6 mm) using acetonitrile: 0.05% trifluoroacetic acid in water (55:45, v/v) as mobile phase at the flow rate of 1 ml/min. Validation of the analytical method was performed as per ICH guidelines. Results: The retention times of REP and RAB were found at ~4.3 and 5.1 min respectively, with adequate system suitability parameters (theoretical plates ≥3619, tailing factor ≤1.38, resolution factor 2.37). The method has linearity over a concentration range of 10 to 1000 ng/ml (r2=0.9987). The results of accuracy (≥98.17%), intra-, inter-day precision (≤2.9%), recovery (101.21±2.09%) and process efficiency (99.77±3.74%) found satisfactor...

It is often preceded by precancerous or premalignant lesions and conditions such as leukoplakia, erythroplakia and oral submucosal fibrosis Subjects: A total of 142 patients presented with clinical signs and symptoms of premalignant and malignant stages of Oral Cancer were enrolled in the study. Among them 39 patients were excluded for the reasons of patients expired (n=5), not reported for the next follow up (n=23), posted for radiation (n=2) and for surgery (n=9) during the study period. After exclusion of above 39 patients, 103 patients were get eligibility to include in the study, of them 88 were males and 15 were females.Socio demographic data of the patients: In the present study amongst 103 eligible patients 88 (85.43%) were males and 15 (14.56%) were females. Majority of the patients were uneducated that constitute of 70.87% (n=73) while educated patients percentage was 29.12% (n=30). 67.96% (n=70) of patients were identified from rural area and rest of 32.04% (n=33) were from urban area CONCLUSION In the present study substantial improvement and decrease in disease severity was observed with selected (lycopene) antioxidant therapy in different stages of oral cancer patients. Thus, antioxidants are overall favorable for early cases of oral premalignant lesions and conditions to cease and delay the disease progress.

Twenty Four (24) male rats were used for the experiment. Group I was administered per oral daily with Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) for 10 days. Group II was administered single intraperitoneal dose of Cisplatin 7.5mg kg body weight on fifth day, Group III was administered daily per oral 1 dose of Atorvastatin 3 mg kg body weight for 10 days and on fifth day single intraperitoneal dose of Cisplatin 1 7.5 mg kg body weight. Group IV was administereddaily per oral dose of Atorvastatin 10 mg kg body weight 1 1 for 10 days and on fifth day a single intraperitoneal dose of Cisplatin 7.5 mg kg body weight. After the last 1 day of treatment animals were sacrificed and blood samples collected by cardiac puncture and used for analysis of serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and total protein. The antioxidant parameters of Catalase, GSH and TBARS were measured in kidneys. The result showed a significantly reduced serum concentration of creatinine, urea and total protein in groups treated with Cisplatin only when compared to PBS. It is concluded that the decrease in creatinine, blood urea and total protein were ameliorated by the administration of atorvastatin which may be due to its antioxidant properties.

Research paper thumbnail of Prevalence of Inadequately Treated Lipid Profile in Ischemic Heart Disease Patients at a Tertiary Care Hospital

Background: National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) guidelines prepared by Adult Treatment ... more Background: National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) guidelines prepared by Adult Treatment Panel III provide clinicians with recommendations for the clinical management of abnormal blood cholesterol to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. While the introduction of the NCEP ATP III guidelines has the potential to improve the primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease, the reality of under treatment should not be forgotten. With this regard in this study an attempt has been made to find the prevalence of inadequately treated lipid profile in CHD patients.

Research paper thumbnail of Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Hypertensive De Novo Patients at a Tertiary Care Hospital

Background: Hypertension is a significant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disea... more Background: Hypertension is a significant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD), a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Increasing blood pressure could be a marker for metabolic syndrome (MtS) usually undiagnosed, together, which intensify the risk of future development of CVD. Methodolodgy: Present prospective, open labeled, observational study was conducted at outpatient department of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal, Telangana, India. The study was carried out for four months, from June 2013 to September 2013. Patients who met the study preset criteria and consented were enrolled and the entire parameters essential for evaluation of MtS were done by using standard techniques from the protocol. Results: A total of 120 hypertensive patients (75 male; 45 female) with mean age of 53.28 ± 12.98 years was examined. When classified according to National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATP III) for MtS, 82.5% were falling in this criterion. Of this total, 43%, 30.8% and 8.33% were met with HTN with 2, HTN with 3 and HTN with 4 criteria respectively. Conclusion: A significant prevalence of MetS among newly diagnosed hypertensive patients was observed. In view of this there is a need to screen all hypertensive patients for the abnormalities at the time of diagnosis and an effective action plan is needed to combat MtS in order to prevent its consequences.
