Arab Spring was exploited badly in the Middle East, leading to the emergence of terrorist groups ... more Arab Spring was exploited badly in the Middle East, leading to the emergence of terrorist groups in many Arab countries. This facilitates terrorism threats through all seas, Gulfs and Straits. This may foreshadow the possibility of close terrorist cooperation, and an imminent danger from the sea, threatening the whole region including the nations of southern Europe.
Phase1: Strait of "Bab El-Mandeb" is well secured, and ISIS are heavily bombarded in the Middle East. In North Africa, some of Libyan coast cities are occupied by terrorist groups. Along with the attempts of “Welaieit Sinaa” terrorist group of failing the state of Egypt, the maritime terrorist elements in Libya are expected to start achieving their short term goals in the region, seeking to start their attacks on North Africa and South Europe coasts.
Phase2: Terrorist elements in Somalia supported by ISIS will attack the Straits of “Bab El-Mandab and Hormuz” when pressure released from Middle East.
Phae3: Terrorists will direct attacks on the coasts across the Mediterranean Sea in order to threaten the Strait of Gibraltar.
Political and security situations must be settled in Libya, and terrorist groups in North Africa must be eliminated with a special priority to Libya.
For effective international response, the EU as a regional organization should coordinate with the Arab League as counterpart regional organizations; and NATO as a regional allied force should coordinate with the Arab Defence Force as counterpart allied forces.
We must be aware that our countries should not look only to our land borders, but also consider our maritime borders.
