Since the rigidity of miniaturized and lightened mechanism becomes low, mechanical vibration occurs at the multiple modes. The vibrational modes are changed by the operational condition. Thus, it is necessary to estimate these vibrational modes in real-time to achieve the damping control. In this series of cooperative research, an adaptive observer based on the delta form was proposed. This paper examines the feasibility of the implementation of this observer to fixed-point microprocessors. As an illustration, first-order-systems are considered. In the case of 8 bit word length, overflow and underflow occurs in this calculation and the adaptive system becomes unstable. In the case of 16 bit word length, the proposed observer can follow the time-varying plant parameters in real-time. Simulation results show t...

We define two types of agents: the main agent and the exploration-oriented agent. The main agent selects actions mainly for exploitation, and the exploration-oriented agent concentrates on exploration using the k-certainty exploration method. These agents learn in the same environment in parallel and update the shared value function alternately. By using this strategy, the construction of the optimal value function is expected, and the optimal actions can be selected by the main agents quickly. The experimental results of the n-armed bandit problems showed the availability of our method.

To aim at the high technology of Japan, the establishment of the efficient and effective promotion method of the engineer is demanded. The AIIT (Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology) provides a new education system that is able to satisfy this demand, that is the PBL (Project Based Learning) as engineer training system, and the AIIT has trained the professional engineer. The characteristics competencies defined by AIIT is a part of an important target in PBL. This paper describes the PBL and the competencies.

The proposed skill level evaluation method utilizes a logarithmic distribution diagram of curvature for spiral arm motion and a cross-correlation for whole body motion. In order to demonstrate a possibility of the proposed method, we present experimental results with a Kinect sensor.

Research paper thumbnail of Sliding-Mode Control of Retarded Nonlinear Systems Via Finite Spectrum Assignment Approach

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2006

In the present study, a sliding mode control design method based on the finite spectrum assignmen... more In the present study, a sliding mode control design method based on the finite spectrum assignment procedure is proposed. The finite spectrum assignment for retarded nonlinear systems can transform retarded nonlinear systems into delay-free linear systems via a variable transformation and a feedback, which contain the past values of the state. This method can be considered to be an extension of both the finite spectrum assignment for retarded linear systems with controllability over polynomial rings of the delay operator and the exact linearization for finite dimensional nonlinear systems. The proposed method is to design a sliding surface via the variable transformation used in the finite spectrum assignment and to derive a switching feedback law. The obtained surface contains not only the current values of the state variables but also the past values of the state variables in the original coordinates. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested by an illustrative example.
