This study was conducted to determine the relative importance of general (GCA) and specific (SCA)... more This study was conducted to determine the relative importance of general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining ability and heterosis effects on resistance to C. gloeosporioides in selected papaya genotypes. A half diallel mating scheme of five genotypes of papaya were evaluated in the field. The combining ability analysis revealed that both the additive and nonadditive gene effects were present. Crosses between the resistance and susceptible genotypes showed intermediate disease reaction to papaya anthracnose disease (PAD) suggesting a polygenic system of resistance to the disease. Highly resistance heterosis of 51.51% at Tajur and 48.71% at Gunung Geulis were expressed in crosses between IPB5 x PB000174 . Key words: Papaya, anthracnose, GCA, SCA, heterosis
Screening genotypes of Aceh cacao to obtain resistant genotypes to Black Pod Disease (Phytopthora... more Screening genotypes of Aceh cacao to obtain resistant genotypes to Black Pod Disease (Phytopthora palmivora) is a key step. This study was conducted on basis of screening natural infection in the field and artificial infection in laboratory. The research was conducted in the field (Saree Aceh and East Aceh) and in the Plant Pathology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The study started from March to November 2013. Results from the field and laboratory, based on artificial inoculation, showed that three genotypes originated from Saree Aceh i.e. SR 26, SR 40 and SR7 were resistant, indicated by the characters of long incubation period (more than five days), a small diameter of spot, slow growth of the spot, and low percentage of symptoms. The three genotypes had both a good wounded post-penetration and unwounded pre-penetration resistance. Conversely, cacao genotypes originated from East Aceh did not show a significant difference of post-penetration resistance.

This study aimed to characterize and evaluate the performance of five varieties of sweetcorn. The... more This study aimed to characterize and evaluate the performance of five varieties of sweetcorn. The study was carried out in Cot Irie Village, Aceh Besar Regency, from August to November 2017. This research was designed using a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with a factor tested: five varieties of sweetcorn (Bonanza, Secada, Royal Sweet, Sweetboy and Manise), replicated 4 times. The total was 20 experimental plots with 20 plants in each plot. The data collected were analyzed using F test and the significant differences were compared using LSD at probability level 5%. The results showed that each variety demonstrated difference character on its growth, potential and quality of yield. The results exhibited that the sweetest corn was possessed by variety Royal Sweet. There was a correlation between growth and yield characters of sweet maize, revealed by significant positive correlation on plant height, stem diameter, height of main cobs, number of cobs, cobs length, diameter of cornhusk and number of seeds per row for comparison with dry seed weight per plot. .

Utilization of mulch could reduce competition between weeds and soybean crop for water, light, nu... more Utilization of mulch could reduce competition between weeds and soybean crop for water, light, nutrient, maintaining temperature and humidity of soil to create better growth of soybean environment. Soybean crop had a critical period of weeds competition so that siam weed organic mulch should be applied to control weeds at certain time. The research aims to improve the yield of soybean crop that is influenced by application times of siam weed mulch. This study had defferent time of mulch aplications treatment such as at the time of planting, 7 days after planting (DAP), and 14 DAP. The results of this reserch showed that application times had not effected significantly at all parameter. The result also showed the earlier application time of siam weed organic mulch it was on planting time had decreased weed growth then increased yield of soybean. Evaluation of the resistance of pepper plant germplasm against Begomovirus infection needs to be carried out, evaluate genetic diversity, estimate heritability values, and obtain a selection character for the resistance of chili plants Begomovirus. The research was conducted in a net house at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, from July to December 2017, and it was divided into two experiments: 1) planting the peppers which carried out in a net house. This experiment employed Randomized Block Design (RBD) Non-Factorial and 2) anthracnose resistance assay. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di PT Syngenta Seed Indonesia Kediri Field Station dusun Sukodono desa Kedungmalang kecamatan Papar kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur yang berlangsung pada Mei sampai Oktober 2019. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial dengan 24 genotipe uji, 4 genotipe pembanding (untuk uji daya hasil) dengan 2 ulangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil tanaman kedelai akibat aplikasi herbisida oksifluorfen dan pendimethalin. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan dari Mei hingga Agustus 2019 di Desa Rumpeet dan Laboratorium Ilmu Gulma, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Syiah Kuala. Desain penelitian ini menggunakaan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial 2 x 5 dengan 3 ulangan. Faktor-faktor yang diteliti adalah jenis herbisida yakni terdapat 2 taraf (Oksifluorfen dan Pendimethalin) dan dosis herbisida yakni terdapat 5 taraf (Kontrol, 0,5, 1, 1,5 dan 2 kg b.a ha-1). Adapun hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti membuktikan bahwa jenis herbisida dan dosis herbisida tidak mempengaruhi peubah jumlah polong per tanaman, berat biji per tanaman, berat 100 biji, dan hasil biji kering. This study aims to obtain information about the induction of local Aceh red chili genotype resist... more This study aims to obtain information about the induction of local Aceh red chili genotype resistance by using rizobacteria isolates against the disease caused by F. oxysporum. This research was conducted from March to September 2018. The design used was a completely randomized design with factorial pattern. The experiment consisted of two factors, the first was red chili genotype, namely the genotype Odeng, Lamando Lapaben, Super Amando 002 and "Lanyoe" SS, and the second factor was rhizobacterial isolate, namely HWI 5 (4) and HWI 8 (6) with a comparison of control treatment. The results showed that the Lanyoe genotype had the highest dichotomous height of 24.44 cm. The combination of the best treatment on the disease incidence parameters, and the number of fruits per plant was found in the combination of the Super Lamando genotype with HWI rizobacteria 8 (6) with each value of 1, 00%, and 24.7. The best fruit weights per plant was found in the combination of the Lamando Lapaben genotype with HWI rizobacteria 5 (4) the average value of fruit weight per plant was 12.33 g.

The use of Rhizobacteria is expected to suppress the attack of Fusarium pathogen in local pepper plants in Aceh. This study is aimed at obtaining information about the important role of Rhizobacterium in inducing the resistance of local pepper plants in Aceh to the attack of Fusarium oxysporum. In order to fulfill the cocoa revitalization program, relatively large quantities of seedling are... more In order to fulfill the cocoa revitalization program, relatively large quantities of seedling are needed. Tissue culture is one of the alternative techniques for vegetative propagation that produce the large numbers of seedlings and uniform in a relatively short time, and also does not depend on the season. A preliminary study to induce callus and embryo somatic cocoa clones adaptive in Aceh has been carried out using immature flower parts of cocoa. The result showed that picloram was able to produce somatic embryos of staminode of various explants. Callus growth began to appear after two weeks on staminode, and then were subcultured into the same medium to produce secondary somatic embryos.

The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replicates. Results showed that inhibition occurred at concentrations of 100 gL-1 at 10 HST on plant height, leaf number and dry weight of mustard plant. Optimum inhibitory concentration of the liquid squeezed leaves of A. conyzoides on mustard was at a concentration of 300 gL-1. At the highest concentration (500 g/l), A. conyzoides inhibited germination up to 100%.
