Double click on the links in the poster and it will take you to other digital sources related to Willi Graf. The last page of the poster mentions student self-assessment, a critical component of engaging the content. Self-assessment allows students to join the narrative and to interact with the past, in this case, the story of Willi Graf. Assigning students a digital poster assignment promotes the concept of "living history" in which the past is connected to the present. The objective is to embolden the current generation to shape their future.

She is perhaps the most famous woman of the "Forty-Eighters," individuals who participated in the 1848 revolutions in Europe to promote democratic and worker rights. She also founded the first newspaper for women in the US in 1852 (Milwaukee, WI). She was a close friend of Susan B. Anthony, a passionate suffragette, abolitionist, writer, and founder of a Girls Academy in Milwaukee. Thanks to her pioneering efforts and the women who came after her, Wisconsin became the first state to ratify the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote.

He was well qualified and inherently well versed to postulate how best to pursue peace from various vantage points throughout his life, which he ended in 1949 at the age of 42.' Klaus Mann was a prolific journalist, novelist, essayist, and playwright, and much has been written about his famous family and their contributions to the literary world. Mann's active pursuit of peace and a united Europe however, is often overshadowed by the traumatic events of his life that inspired many of his works. Although he left no suicide note, one clearly sees Mann's bitter disappointment with world events in his writings particularly towards the end o f his life.^ His moral commitment to a better world became evident in his politically oriented fiction, journals, editorial works, and autobiographies written in exile. The latter not only chronicle his experiences, but illuminate his evolving outlook on war and peace and include Turning Point published in 1942 and Der Wendepunkt, the German-language version published posthumously in 1952. The cleft between his ideals, expectations, and reality developed over the course of his lifetime beginning with the First World War. Klaus Heinrich Thomas Mann was born in Munich in 1906 and was the second of six children born to Thomas Mann and his wife Katja. The family, initially a privileged and formal household, lived in Bavaria during the First World War, which Mann described in detail in chapter two of The Turning Point. Most immigration was a reaction to socioeconomic circumstances, though immigrants were also motivated by religion, politics, and the desire for land, adventure, freedom and independence. The focus of the research in this volume, however, falls on the experiences of immigrants from the Rhineland who came from predominantly agricultural areas and settled in southeastern Wisconsin in the 1840s and 1850s. Open for settlement in 1834, Wisconsin encouraged and benefited from their capital, expertise, and labor. Drawing on official records on both sides of the Atlantic, the contributors utilized qualitative and quantitative data. These sources include personal correspondence and testimonies, obituary clippings, genealogical data from federal and state censuses, family records, land records/registers, land surveys, church archives and parish registers, tax rolls, city and state archives, discharge papers, ship passenger lists, agricultural census schedules, and platbooks. The authors also reference secondary sources in English and German, German-language immigrant literature, local historical pamphlets, historical volumes published by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin state laws and newspapers.
