Genetic, metabolic, multiple lifestyle, and sociodemographic factors are known as related to high T2DM risk. Dietary lipids and lipid metabolism are significant metabolic modulators in T2DM and T2DM-related complications. Besides, accumulated evidence suggests that altered gut microbiota which plays an important role in the metabolic health of the host contributes significantly to T2DM involving impaired or improved glucose and lipid metabolism. At this point, dietary lipids may affect host physiology and health via interaction with the gut microbiota. Besides, increasing evidence in the literature suggests that lipidomics as novel parameters detected with holistic analytical techniques have important roles in the pathogenesis and progression of T2DM, through various mechanisms of action including gut-brain axis modulation. A better understanding of the roles of some nutrients and lipidomics in T2DM through gut microbiota interactions will help develop new strategies for the prevention and treatment of T2DM. However, this issue has not yet been entirely discussed in the literature. The present review provides up-to-date knowledge on the roles of dietary lipids and lipidomics in gut-brain axis in T2DM and some nutritional strategies in T2DM considering lipids-lipidomics and gut microbiota interactions are given. Keywords Lipids, Lipidomics, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Gut microbiota, Diet Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an endocrine metabolic disorder characterized by dysfunctional pancreatic β-cells and peripheral insulin resistance, resulting in abnormalities of glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia, and chronic inflammation [1]. T2DM is commonly associated with poor blood glucose control, dyslipidemia, and obesity, and has become a global public health concern due to the rising prevalence and implications of the disease [2, 3]. In 2021, about 537 million people will be diagnosed with diabetes (DM), and this number is estimated to increase to 643 million by 2030; 90-95 percent of DM diagnoses are T2DM [4, 5]. Genetic, metabolic, lifestyle, and dietary patterns are among the most influential determinants of T2DM [6]. Although ethnicity and family history/genetic

By controlling gene expression in β-cells and adipocytes, OCN improves glucose intolerance, obesity, and insulin expression. In addition, OCN stimulates the secretion of adiponectin, a molecule that increases fatty acid oxidation and insulin secretion and sensitivity in adipose tissue and reduces adipose tissue accumulation. Recent research suggests that serum OCN increases the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) and uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1) genes, which play a role in thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue, it also affects insulin sensitivity by increasing adiponectin expression in white adipose tissue. OCN the target gene of insulin, and resting energy expenditure and mitochondrial biogenesis. With all these effects, OCN is a protein that has recently been found to be associated with diabetes and obesity components. Conclusions: This review aims to present an overview of understanding the interaction of OCN produced by osteoblasts with insulin, glucose metabolism, adipose tissue, skeletal and muscle tissue, and appetite metabolism in understanding the endocrine functions of bone. In addition, it was conducted to examine the role of OCN in energy metabolism and to evaluate the relationship of energy metabolism pathways affected by OCN with noncommunicable chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.

In recent years, increasing nutrition and health awareness has also changed what is expected from fermentation technology, and the production of healthier foods has started to come a little more forward rather than increasing the shelf life and organoleptic properties of foods. Therefore, in addition to traditional microorganisms, a new generation of (novel) microorganisms has been discovered and research has shifted to this point. Novel microorganisms are known as either newly isolated genera and species from natural sources or bacterial strains derived from existing bacteria. Although novel microorganisms are mostly studied for their use in novel food production in terms of gut-microbiota modulation, recent innovative food research highlights their fermentative effects and usability, especially in food modifications. Factors such as uncertainties about the prognosis of the disease, insufficient control measures, lack of effective therapeutic mechanisms can cause negative effects on individuals’ daily living activities and mental health. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the mood changes and Mediterranean diet adherence of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study was carried out between November 2020 and January 2021 with individuals over 18 years of age. The data required for the research were collected with an online questionnaire. The COVID-19 Phobia Scale (C19P-S) and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) were used to assess the emotional state of individuals. The Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) was used to examine the adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Results: A total of 6609 individuals between the ages of 18-70 participated...

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), one of the main types of Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), is a s... more Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), one of the main types of Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by dysfunctional pancreatic β-cells and/or peripheral insulin resistance, resulting in impaired glucose and lipid metabolism. Besides, increasing evidence in the literature suggests that lipidomics as novel parameters detected with holistic analytical techniques have important roles in the pathoge...

OCN the target gene of...

The quarantines implemented during the COVID-19 period, the deterioration of economic income, and the uncertain situation about the future have affected the changes in physical inactivity, mood changes, sleep quality, lifestyle, and eating habits. Our study aimed to investigate the changes in individuals' mood, sleep quality, lifestyle, and eating habits during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Patients and Methods: COVID-19 phobia scale (C19P-S) and coronavirus anxiety scale (CAS) were used to assess the emotional state of individuals. Pittsburgh sleep quality index was used to assess sleep quality. The data required for the research were collected with an online questionnaire. The study was carried out on individuals over 18 years of age between November 2020 and January 2021. Changes in mood, sleep quality and lifestyle with eating habits of individuals during the COVID-19. The data obtained from the studies were analyzed with appropriate statistical methods using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: A total of 6,609 individuals between the ages of 18-70 participated in the study, and 69.8% of the participants were female. Sleep quality and the mean score obtained from the C19P-S in female individuals (50.4±10.63) were found to be significantly higher than in male individuals (46.9±9.94) (p<0.001). Sleep quality showed a positive and significant relationship with CAS and C19P-S, respectively (r=0.190, r=224) (p<0.001). Before the COVID-19 period, the individuals consumed the highest rate of fruit (68.8%), tea, herbal teas (48.4%), vegetables (50.8%), and milk and yogurt (48.4%), while after the pandemic the highest rate of industrial packaged bakery products (41.0%), sugar or sweeteners (36.2%), processed meat products (34.7%), and sugar-sweetened soft drinks (30.3%) were consumed. Conclusions: The COVID-19 may cause changes in individuals' mood, sleep quality, lifestyle, and eating habits. This is the first study to evaluate these factors together in the Turkish population. We believe that complications related to COVID-19 may have a negative impact on public health in the long term. In the future, we recommend that governments develop policies to improve public health regarding adequate and balanced nutrition, physical activity, and mood management.

Herein, Clostridium butyricum, Bacte...
