A series of novel N<sup>6</sup> -substituted-9-deaza adenosine or N<sup>4</sup> -substituted pyrrolo[3,2- <em>d</em>]pyrimidine derivatives with aza sugar were prepared through the displacement of chloro derivative with various amines. Corresponding chloro derivative was prepared from hydroxyl compound by the reaction with phosphorus oxychloride under buffer conditions using appropriately protected aza sugar moiety.
