Methods Sixty-six patients were evaluated with MRI and DTI before and after GKR. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) were measured from the bilateral lateral lemniscus (LL), inferior colliculus (IC), medial geniculate body (MGB), and Heschl's gyrus (HG). Results There was no significant difference in ADC and FA values obtained from bilateral LL, IC, and MGB before and after radiosurgery. However, there was a significant difference between pretreatment and postradiosurgery contralateral HG ADC values. The ADC values obtained from the contralateral HG and IC positively correlated with the duration after radiosurgery. As the duration after radiosurgery increases, the difference between the ADC values obtained from ipsilateral and contralateral HG also increases. Conclusion The high ADC values in the contralateral HG after radiosurgery may indicate microstructural alterations such as demyelination and axonal loss. Radiation exposure doses to the brainstem and cochlea are the most important factors that can cause microstructural damage to the auditory pathways. When planning radiosurgery, extreme care should be taken to prevent the harmful effects of radiation on the auditory pathways.

Forty patients with solid renal masses underwent US elastographic evaluation. SWE values of the lesions and adjacent cortical renal parenchyma and SWER were detected prospectively. Malignant tumors were recorded as group 1 and benign tumors were recorded as group 2. The highest elasticity values were 27.27±25.66 kPa for group 1 and 16.13±8.89 kPa for group 2. The mean±SD elasticity values for adjacent renal cortex for groups 1 and 2 were 2.7±2.08 and 2.75±1.35, respectively. For group 1, a negative correlation was observed between the age of the patients and SWER value (p=0.047, rs=‑0.401). There was also a negative correlation between the SWER value and the SWE value of adjacent renal cortex (p=0.004, rs=‑0.555). SWE is a noninvasive method that provides quantitative elasticity informationon tissues. Overlaps among different types of renal lesions may be due to h...

Published data on both prevalence and intensity of pruritus in psoriasis is limited. oBjective: In this study we aimed to investigate the prevalence of pruritus and its relation with psoriasis area severity index, body mass index and presence of systemic disease in patients with psoriasis. Methods: We analyzed data of psoriatic patients diagnosed in our psoriasis outpatient clinic between March 2013 and June 2014 collected retrospectively from PSR-TR registration system. results: In total, 880 patients were analyzed. Pruritus was more prominent in female patients. This difference was statistically significant. No significant associations were found between age of patients, clinical type of disease and pruritus. The itching was more common in patients with higher body mass index. Presence of pruritus was correlated significantly with severity of psoriasis. Five hundred and sixty of 880 patients had no systemic disease. The presence of pruritus was not related with presence of systemic disease. Existence of systemic disease with psoriasis has minimal effect on pruritus. study liMitations: We did not evaluate intensity of pruritus. conclusions: Pruritus is not mentioned within the classical symptoms of psoriasis. Pruritus in psoriasis is a very unpleasant symptom with great potential to impair patient's quality of life and may exacerbate psoriasis as a Koebner phenomenon.

Our aim in this study was to examine the prevalence of HBT among multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Material/Methods: HBT frequency was investigated in our MS group (243 patients with MS). Hemoglobin electrophoresis (HE) was carried out if MS patients had a mean corpuscular volume of (MCV) <80 fL and a mean corpuscular hemoglobin level of (MCH) <27 pg/L according to a complete blood count (CBC). If MCV was lower than 80 fL, MCH was lower than 27 pg/L, and Hemoglobin A2 equal to or higher than 3.5%, a diagnosis of HBT was established. The frequency of patients with HBT in our MS patient group was statistically compared with the prevalence of HBT in the city of Istanbul, where our MS patients lived. Results: The HBT prevalence was 0.823% (2 patients) in the MS patient group. The prevalence of HBT in Istanbul has been reported to be 4.5%. According to the z-test, the HBT prevalence in our MS patient group was significantly lower than that in Istanbul (Z=6.3611, two-sided p value <0.0001, 95% confidence interval of prevalence of HBT in our MS patient group: 0.000998-0.029413). Conclusions: Contrary to our hypothesis at the outset of study, the reduced HBT prevalence in the MS group compared to HBT frequency in the city of Istanbul might indicate that HBT is protective against MS.

Methods: The Turkish version of the LORQv3 was translated and culturally adapted into Turkish, and tested on a sample of 46 head and neck cancer patients who had undergone prosthetic rehabilitation at a university clinic. Patients were categorized into three groups: Patients with maxillary obturator prostheses treated by surgery alone (n = 15); Patients with maxillary obturator prostheses treated by surgery plus radiotherapy, with or without chemotherapy (n = 23); and, Nasopharyngeal cancer patients without maxillary defects wearing conventional dental prostheses who had been treated by radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy (n = 8). Data were collected through clinical examinations and self-reported questionnaires, including socio-demographic characteristics, the LORQv3, and the University of Washington Quality of Life questionnaire version 4 (UW-QOLv4). The psychometric evaluation included validity (content, face, construct, and criterion) and reliability (internal consistency and test-retest). Results: All sections of the LORQv3 showed satisfactory internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha between 0.71 to 0.82. Kappa statistics showed moderate to perfect test-retest reliability for the 33 LORQv3 items. We found significant negative correlations between the LORQv3 and the UW-QOL v4 for some related items. The LORQv3 also identified differences in responses among patient groups, supporting its construct and criterion validity. Conclusions: This study provides initial evidence in support of the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of LORQv3 in prosthetically rehabilitated patients with head and neck cancer; it could be used in clinical practice in Turkey.

Methods: The Research Diagnostic Criteria of TMD (RDC/TMD) data for Axis I and II were obtained for 104 consecutive patients seeking treatment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, chi-square test, One-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, and binary multiple logistic regression tests. Patients were classified into two groups according to Graded Chronic Pain Scale scores: Grade III and IV were scored for patients with high levels of pain-related disability, whereas Grade I and II were scored for patients with low disability. Results: Muscle and joint pain were found in 64.9% and 31.8% of the patients, respectively, and 27.3% of the patients suffered from both muscle and joint pain. Psychosocial disability was found in 26% of patients. There were no statistically significant differences among the diagnostic subgroups with regards to the demographic, behavioral, psychological, and psychosocial characteristics. Patients with high levels of pain-related disability had significantly higher depression, somatization, pain intensity and jaw disability scores than those with low levels of pain-related disability. Patients with high levels of pain-related disability were more likely to have higher pain intensity, to report higher somatization symptoms and functional impairment, and were less likely to have joint pain than those with low levels of pain related disability. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Turkish version RDC/TMD, based on a dual axis system, may be used to screen chronic TMD patients at high-risk for pain-related disability who need comprehensive care treatment program.

Recently, it has been suggested that chronic inflammation in psoriasis may cause metabolic and vascular disorders. Most of recent studies focused on the comorbidities and the mechanisms of comorbidities associated with psoriasis. Obesity may lead to cardiovascular disorders, diyabetes mellitus, hypertension, malignancies, musculoskeleteal system diseases, impaired quality of life, and death. In this study, we aimed to investigate the prevalence of obesity in patients with psoriasis and the relationship between the disease severity and body mass index (BMI) in Turkish psoriasis population. Materials and Methods: The patients who attended the Dermatovenerology outpatient clinics at Bezmialem Vakıf University Medical Faculty between February 2007 and March 2013 were enrolled in the study. We retrospectively evaluated the medical records of the patients obtained from the PSR-TR psoriasis follow-up system. Results: Five hundred forty-five women and 474 men were included in the study. The mean age of the female and male patients was 41.3 years, 43.3 years, respectively. The mean body mass index of the patients was 27.5 (26.7 for men and 28.2 for women). 54.6% of obese patients had a psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) score of less than 5, 20.5% had PASI scores between 5-10 and 24.8% had a PASI score of more than 10. Conclusion: In our study, there was a poor relationship between obesity and severity of psoriasis. The prevalence of obesity in psoriasis patients was similar to that in the Turkish population.

MATERIALS AND METHODS A validated questionnaire, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Pediatric Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, including both children and parent versions, was completed by children (age 5-18 years) with and without LUTS (control) and their parents without assistance. All children were investigated with detailed history, bladder diary, urinalysis, and flowmetry with postvoid residual urine volume measurement. The data were stratified into 3 age groups (5-9, 10-13, and 14-18 years). The reliability of both versions was evaluated using Cronbach's a and !0.7 indicated acceptability. The correlation between the children's and parents' reports for each question was evaluated using Spearman correlation coefficients. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to define the cutoff points, and the sensitivity and specificity were calculated. The principal component analysis method was used to explain the construct validity. RESULTS A total of 272 children (147 with and 125 without LUTS) and their parents completed the questionnaire. The children and parent versions of the questionnaire were both reliable (Cronbach's a 0.709 and 0.710, respectively). The sensitivity and specificity was 82.4% and 80.0% for the children version and 87.8% and 78.4% for the parent version, respectively. The reliability and acceptability of the children's reports were insufficient for the 5-9 year age group, and the parents' answers were unreliable for the 10-13 year age group. The correlation between the parent and children reports was the lowest for the 10-13 year age group. CONCLUSION The alteration in the reliability in the different age groups suggests that the combination of the parent and children versions is most appropriate for screening children with LUTS. The CONSORT and Timmer criteria were used for randomized controlled trials, and for observational studies the STROBE and Timmer criteria were used. The presentation score that was obtained by three different evaluation systems was accepted as the main variable. The score changes according to the two congresses, the influence of the reviewers on the presentation scores, and compatibility between the two reviewers were evaluated. Comparisons regarding study types and total presentation number were made by using the chi-square test, the compatibility between the total score of the presentations were made by the Mann-Whitney U test and the compatibility between the reviewers were evaluated by the Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Results: There was no difference between the two Congresses in terms of study type distribution and total number of accepted presentations (p=0.844). The total scores of randomized controlled trials and observational studies from the 2010 and 2012 National Surgical Congresses that were evaluated by two independent reviewers with different assessment tools did not show any significant difference (p>0.05). A significant difference was observed between the reviewers in their evaluation by CONSORT, STROBE and Timmer criteria (p<0.05). Conclusion: Implementation of standard criteria for the evaluation of abstracts that are sent to congresses is important in terms of presentation reporting quality. The existing criteria should be revised according to national factors, in order to reduce the significant differences between reviewers. It is believed that discussions on a new evaluation system will be beneficial in terms of the development of a national assessment system.

Non-dipping pattern in hypertensive patients has been shown to be associated with an excess of target organ damage and adverse outcome. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) used for monitoring glucose control in patients with diabetes is a predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of HbA1c in dipper and non-dipper hypertensive patients without diabetes. Methods: 114 consecutive hypertensive patients without diabetes 41 healthy subjects as control group had been enrolled in the study. 24-hour Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring allowed to classify 58 patients in non-dipper and 56 patients in dipper groups. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) had been assessed by Doppler ultrasound and the relation between the HbA1c levels and CIMT thickness had been evaluated. Results: Age, gender, BMI and lipid levels did not differ significantly between groups. There was no significant difference between HbA1c levels of control subjects and dipper hypertensive patients (5.18AE0.43; 5.36AE0.39, p¼0.121). The non-dipper patients had significantly higher values of HbA1c levels compared to controls. (5.54AE0.48 versus 5.18AE0.43 p<0,001). The non-dipper patients had a trend to have higher levels of HbA1c compared to dippers but the difference was not significant (5.54AE0.48'e 5.36AE0.39 p¼0,07). CIMT thickness values were significantly higher in nondipper patients compared to both dippers and control group. (0.72AE0.12 versus 0.66AE0.11 and 0.52AE0.09, p1<0.05 and p2<0.001). HbA1c levels correlated significantly with CIMT thickness (r:0.19, p¼0.01). Conclusıon: Our results may suggest a progressive increase of HbA1c during the development of non-dipper hypertension and correlates with CIMT thickness, a surrogate marker of atherosclerosis.

To develop effective oral health promotion programs, there is a need to assess this target group's subjective oral health needs as well as clinical needs. The Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) is a well-known instrument for assessing oral health quality of life in children aged 0-5 years old and their families. This study aimed to adapt the ECOHIS for children 5-6 years old in a Turkish-speaking community and to undertake a preliminary investigation of its psychometric properties. Methods: The Turkish version of the ECOHIS was obtained with forward/backward translations, expert panels and pre-testing and it was tested in a convenience sample of 121 parents of 5-6 year-old children attending nursery classes of three public schools. Data were collected through clinical examinations and self-completed questionnaires. The main analyses were carried out on the imputed data set. The validity of content, face, construct, discriminant and convergent and as well as the reliability of internal and test-retest of the ECOHIS were evaluated. Sensitivity analysis was performed to examine the effect of the complete case analysis for managing "Don't know" responses on the validity and reliability of the ECOHIS. Results: The analysis of the imputed data set showed that Cronbach's alphas for the child and family sections were 0.92 and 0.84 respectively, and for the whole scale was 0.93. The intraclass correlation coefficient for testretest was 0.86. The scale scores on the child and parent sections indicating worse quality of life were significantly associated with poor parental ratings of their child's oral health, high caries experience, higher gingival index scores and problem-orientated dental attendance, supporting its construct, convergent and discriminant validity. Sensitivity analysis showed that the mean imputation method and the complete case analysis did not have differing effects on the validity and reliability of the ECOHIS. Conclusions: This study provided preliminary evidence concerning validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the scale among 5-6-year-old children. Future studies should be conducted on the ECOHIS to evaluate fully its psychometric properties in both community-based and clinically-based studies among parents of children younger than five. This study provides initial evidence that the ECOHIS aimed at children aged 0-5 years may be a useful tool for assessing the oral health quality of life in 6 year-old preschool children.

Methods This cross-sectional and descriptive study included eighty-eight patients with the IHIV-1 pattern, 100 patients in the PCG, and 100 people in a healthy control group (HCG). Neopterin and sCD14 levels were determined by competitive and sandwich ELISA methods, respectively. Results Mean neopterin and sCD14 levels among those with the IHIV-1 pattern were significantly lower than among the PCG (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively), but they were similiar to those in the HCG (p = 0.57 and p = 0.66, respectively. Mean neopterin and sCD14 levels among the PCG were found to be significantly higher than among those with the IHIV-1 pattern (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively) and among those in the HCG (p = 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively). Neopterin did not have adequate predictive value for identifying those in the PCG (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.534; 95% CI, 0.463-0.605; p = 0.4256); sCD14
