I also have compared the results of the potential of both the species in production of electric current using different biomass for various incubation time periods. Initially the species were inoculated in their growth media for 24hours to grow at sufficient quantity. Later on I built the MFC using 2 PAC bottles using the agar-salt bridge. Then I inoculated the species with different biomass separately in separate MFC set up. Further I allowed the species to respire anaerobically and completed the circuit with external connections. I also connected a multimeter and thus after the incubation the bacterias fed on the biomass and converted the organic matter to electricity which was measured and tabulated graphicall...

This interdisciplinary nature makes bioinformatics an ideal framework to experience students the interplay between different scientific areas, while touching on societal aspects mainly on health and environment. Implementing Project-based learning (PBL) in Bioinformatics laboratory promoted students involving in experiential learning and critical thinking through group activities, improves problem analyzing and solving skills, bridge the gap between teaching and understanding the course, concentrate on the fundamentals and its application etc. This paper presents the experience with PBL implementation for V semester students in Bioinformatics laboratory course. An open ended problem on different diseases was floated to the group (group comprising up to 4 students, maximum 4 groups in a batch). Cascade of laboratory experiments were performed to understand the molecular aspect of protein involved in pathogenesis. The activity was instrumental in addressing graduate attributes namely: problem identification & solving, identification of proper tools, data analysis and interpretation, communication skill and ability to work in teams were the major outcomes of this course. Rubrics-based assessment was performed to measure the attainment. Overall results show that the students were engaged in active learning and their understanding of the subject was enhanced.

In this context, theme-based mini project for V semester was designed and implemented for under-graduate students of Biotechnology. The objectives of the mini project were 1)To equip the students with basic skill sets and impart the culture of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)& Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and 2) To impart basic microbiological and biochemical skill-sets. The mini project was undertaken with the theme of "Isolation, Screening and Preliminary Characterization of Microorganisms Producing Selected Industrially Important Metabolites". A multi-level rubrics-based assessment was followed to measure the learning. The project addressed eight Program Outcomes (PO) whose attainment on a scale of 10 was calculated. It is concluded that the theme-based project was effective in ex...
Enzyme immobilization is a well developed technology which provides physical stability, operation... more Enzyme immobilization is a well developed technology which provides physical stability, operational stability, facilitates enzymes multiple reusebility and easy separation. The lipase immobilized chitosan magnetic microparticules were prepared using ferrous sulphate as magnetic oxide precursors which were entraped within chitosan matrix and cross linked with lipase enzyme using glutaraldehyde as à cross-linker. The optimization and kinetic studies of both free and immobilized enzymes were performed. The enzyme activity of 55% was recovered by immobilized enzymes after 6 cycles of reusebility. The optimum temperature of both immobilized and free enzymes determined was 40°C, where both enzymes retained the residual activity of 93% and 52% respectively at this temperature even after 10 hours. It was observed that optimum pH of free enzyme was pH 7 and immobilized enzyme was pH 8. Storage stability of both enzymes was performed at 4°C, 82.5% and 54.9% activity was recovered after 60 day...
The ability to predict the conformations and energi s involved in the binding of small molecules ... more The ability to predict the conformations and energi s involved in the binding of small molecules to pr teins is quite crucial in designing potential drugs that c n interact favourably with their target proteins. Docking is also used to predict protein-protein complexes, whi ch are helpful in determining the quaternary struct ures of intrinsically multimeric proteins as well as to gai n an understanding of the protein interaction netwo rks. The objective of our research work is to predict protei n ligand interaction for snake venom. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out using ClustalW2 software. ClustalW2 is a general purpose multiple sequence alignment program for DNA or proteins. Homology mod elling was done using the SWISS-MODEL Workspace. Tropine was selected as ligand for perfo rming docking. Docking was performed to find the inhibition activity of tropine against snake venom using Medock & Hex. Vibrational analysis was perfor med to check the energy changes and it was found tha...
