This study revealed the representation of Joko Widodo as one of the presidential candidates in th... more This study revealed the representation of Joko Widodo as one of the presidential candidates in the 2019 Indonesian presidential election in one of the The Jakarta Post's articles. The data was one of The Jakarta Post's articles entitled 'Jokowi accuses Prabowo's team for enlisting foreign consultant'. The theories used in this study were Halliday and Matthiessen's Transitivity (2014) and Fairclough's three Dimension of Critical Discourse Analysis model. The findings have shown positive representations of Joko Widodo. The representations can be seen from the processes used imbued in newspaper discourse. Furthermore, this positive representation can influence voters to determine the selection in the presidential election.

Data yang terkumpul akan dianalisis dengan menggunakan tiga dimensi Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) yang dikembangkan oleh Norman Faircough. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Hasilnya menunjukkan 20 kutipan dari teks berita yang menunjukkan tiga dimensi AWK (micro, meso, macro), sementara konteks sosial dan politik terwakili dalam teks. The approach used in this study is Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of critical discourse analysis (1995, 2013) with a textual metafunction theory as its analytical tool proposed by Halliday and Mattiessen (2014). The data of this study are 17 hoax news headlines that have been verified by their lies on the website www.turnbackhoax.id. news article’s comment column. The theory OF reading position was first coined by Stuart Hall. Based on Hall's theory, there are three reading positions for the readers in interpreting a text. The first is the dominant or hegemonic reading position that means the readers who fully share the text, receive, and then reproduce it. The second is the negotiated reading position which means the readers who do not fully
share the text yet generally receive it. In this position, they sometimes refuse and modify the text by reflecting their positions, experiences, interests, or even contradictions. The third is the oppositional or counter-hegemonic reading position that means the readers whose social situation places them in direct opposition relationships with the text. They understand the text but do not share it and reject it. In this study, the researchers used the speech act theory to describe and find out the commenters’ reading positions in the selected data. There are 42 comments have written on the comment column of an online news article entitled ‘Singles in Indonesia are in trouble and under pressure: study’ that was shared on Facebook. The researcher used the qualitative descriptive method for analyzing the data. The results are 14 commenters were identified in the hegemonic reading position, 17 commenters in the negotiated reading position, and 11 commenters in the oppositional reading position.

The background of this study is there are still many producers of food products that are not necessarily halal and are not yet certified by halal authorities (MUI) but they have claimed to be halal with the perception of their producers. This research uses a qualitative method. The results showed that some respondents still did not understand very well that related to the concept of halal food. All respondents agreed that the government and Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have a right to issue halal certificates. As for the potential for halal food in Indonesia, it is not evenly distributed, because only a few regions or certain tourist attractions have started to optimize the program. The method used in this research, is the qualitative method. The researchers found data by colleting the menu, identifying types of code mixing, analyzing the implications of code mixing for tourist attractions. The results of this study are two kinds of code mixing in phrases and clauses. The respond of the constumers have positive responses. They like the menu brochure that used a mix of Indonesian and English. In addition, the motivation of cafe managers used the code mixing in menus to attract consumers’ interest, adjust to the currents conditions in society and to use it in learning media. The purpose of this research was to get the information on the frequency of using social media, i... more The purpose of this research was to get the information on the frequency of using social media, identify the types of social media features, and prove the relationship between the frequency of using social media in English learning. This research used quantitative approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire distributed on a propotional random sampling that were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The respondents were 100 students, taken from several classes of regular students in Bachelor Degree in Semester VI and VIII of English program in STBA Yapari-ABA Bandung. The results show that most respondents have more than three social media accounts (71%). Youtube is the site that the most influential respondents (53%). The most useful social media feature is ‘sharing’ (54%) while the most frequently used part of the sentence is 'phrase' (42%). The most beneficial language ability is vocabulary (31%).
