Brief introductions about QAP and its applications are also given. In this work, the main questions are (i) where a customer should be assigned in a list of possible loading positions, (ii) from which storage areas should the customer be served, and (iii) how many lifting truck should be assigned to each loading position in order to minimize cost and residence time. We have applied the Greedy Algorithm to get a good initial solution, and then a modified Genetic Algorithm to find the best solution to the problem. We explored the nearest neighbour using recombination procedure and maintaining the elements with the lower cost. The best solution found is always saved. Comparison with previous work and suggestions for further work has also been included.

Constructing timetable for nurses in hospital is one of the challenging jobs for the head nurse or nurse manager. It requires a lot of time to spend for generating a good and fair timetable. Thus, in this study, we propose a cyclical nurse scheduling model using a 0-1 goal programming that would help the head nurse or nurse manager to have less effort on building new schedules periodically. The proposed model satisfies the stated hospital's policies and the nurses' preferences. The result obtained from this model gives an optimal solution where all goals are achieved. The model also provides an unbiased way of scheduling the nurses and thus leads to an overall higher satisfaction and fairness to the nurses and the hospital management.

ABSTRACT The scheduling of nurses is particularly challenging because of the nature of the work w... more ABSTRACT The scheduling of nurses is particularly challenging because of the nature of the work which is around the clock. In addition, inefficient duty roster can have an effect on the nurses well being as well as their job satisfaction. In nurse scheduling problem (NSP), nurses are generally allocated to periods of work over a specified time horizon. A typical length of the schedule varies from a few weeks to a month. The schedule will be consistently rebuilt after the specified time period and will result in a time-consuming task for the administrative staff involved. Moreover, the task becomes overwhelming when the staff needs to consider the previous duty rosters in order to maintain the quality of schedules. Therefore, this study suggests the development of a master plan for a nurse duty roster for approximately one year. The master plan starts with the development of a blue print for the nurse duty roster using a 0-1 goal programming technique. The appropriate working period for this blue print is formulated based on the number of night shifts and the number of required nurses for night shift per schedule. Subsequently, the blue print is repeated to complete the annual nurse duty roster. These newly developed procedures were then tested on several data sets. The test results found that the master plan has successfully distributed the annual workload evenly among nurses. In addition, the master plan allows nurses to arrange their career and social activities in advance.

A two-phase methodology from literatures has been extended to a three-phase methodology which in a three-phase methodology, operators' performance is evaluated before the allocation is made. The evaluation of operators' performance in Phase 1 is realized as a requirement in operator allocation decision because it will affect the production system's performance. In Phase 2, the used of computer simulation offered flexibility in determining inputs and outputs of each operator allocation alternative. Finally, in Phase 3 the optimal operator allocation is concluded. The combination of these three phases is essential because it includes all important factors. Hence, it will assist the management of the manufacturing companies, especially SMEs in providing ideas to determine an optimal operator allocation. Based on these findings a three-phase methodology improves the current operator allocation.

Self-drive tourism represents a type of tourism where tourists hire or travel by their own vehicle. It only involves a tourist destination which can be linked with a network of roads. Normally, the traveling salesman problem (TSP) and multiple traveling salesman problems (MTSP) method were used in the minimization problem such as determination the shortest time or distance traveled. This paper involved an alternative approach for maximization method which is maximize the attraction scores and tested on tourism data for ten cities in Kedah. A set of priority scores are used to set the attraction score at each cit y. The classical approach of the orienteering problem was used to determine the optimal travel route. This approach is extended to the team orienteering problem and the two methods were compared. These two models have been solved by using LINGO12.0 software. The results indicate that the model involving the team orienteering problem provides a more appropriate solution compared to the orienteering problem model.
