A lot of research has been conducted to examine the effect of gender differences on language lear... more A lot of research has been conducted to examine the effect of gender differences on language learning motivation in various learning environment, yet the outcomes remain contradictory. This study investigates gender differences in 568 Indonesian senior high school students’ motivation to learn English online during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this quantitative enquiry, the data were collected using a motivational questionnaire containing a number of items indicating motivational components. One-way MANOVA was performed to examine not only the students’ overall motivation, but also the effect of gender differences on three motivational variables, namely instrumental orientation, self-efficacy beliefs, and self-regulation. The findings revealed that the students’ overall motivation differs by gender. Furthermore, it was indicated that, in general, female students possessed higher levels of motivation than male students in learning English online. The results support the growing stereoty...

The design of this study was qualitative research design which was characterized by a case study. The participant was selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed by using the interactive analysis model. The researcher used the triangulation by data source, triangulation by method, and triangulation by theory to check the validity and reliability of this study. The findings revealed that the English teacher applied teaching grammar in context, inductive and deductive approach and integrated grammar with language skills. In addition, the English teacher used flipped-classroom model a form of blended learning that combines synchronous and asynchronous online learning with WhatsApp, Google Meet, and Google Classroom as the teaching platforms. This paper aims at knowing how indirect feedback affects the writing performance of students who ... more This paper aims at knowing how indirect feedback affects the writing performance of students who have different language learning strategies. The study used pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest design. Twenty-one students participated in the treatment which lasted for one semester. The treatment applied a process writing approach in which feedback provision was one of the steps in the process. The students were required to write five essays on different topics and the teacher gave indirect feedback on each essay draft. During the revision session, the students revised and rewrote their essays following the feedback provided by the teacher. The last version of each essay was scored. The results showed the students’ writing performance significantly improved from the first essay to the succeeding essays, regardless of their learning strategies. Information Communication Technology (ICT) has penetrated into the teaching of English as a forei... more Information Communication Technology (ICT) has penetrated into the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) around the world, not to mention in Morocco. However, due to some obstacles faced in its implementation, its effectiveness needs to be improved. This paper is intended to explore the potentials of ICT to be used in EFL classes in Morocco and how to prepare teachers to be ready in incorporating the ICT in their language teaching. The potentials cover, among others, what multimedia resources are available, how to make use of them and how ICT becomes the tools to develop student's English language skills. As the teachers' role is very significant, they should get professional development training in ICT for education

It has attracted researchers’ attention to do the investigation on foreign language anxiety as a factor which inhibits students to learn the target language successfully. Concerning with this issue, this correlational research was emphasized on investigating the relationship between foreign language anxiety and students’ English achievement. Fifty-five eighth grade students of MTS Sulaiman Yasin Samarinda were asked to fill out 33 items of Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). The Pearson Product Moment Correlation showed that anxiety had significant negative correlation with students’ English achievement (r = -.258, p

Undergraduate students of the English Department are required to acquire academic words in applied linguistics for academic reading and writing research articles. This paper reports on generating the academic word list for the students of the English Department by using AntConc, a concordance software application. In this study, corpus linguistic research was adopted, in particular the corpus-based analysis category. Data were gathered from approximately one thousand credible Applied Linguistics journal articles published from 2008 to 2021. AntConc software played a significant role in processing these data to get the intended corpus, which was then classified and categorized based on the frequency of occurrences.
