This research is aimed to reveal new students’ obstacle in doing paragraph writing; from the pre-... more This research is aimed to reveal new students’ obstacle in doing paragraph writing; from the pre-writing activity, writing process and also editing. Descriptive qualitative was done to conduct this research. The researchers used interview to collect data and also to verify the result of the data by doing observation on student’s work in writing process. After the results revealed, it is hoped that they are useful for teachers and also students to know the problem they probably face in paragraph writing teaching and also learning, therefore they can anticipate the problem and find solution to those obstacles. The result of this research shows that the students face difficulties in determining topic, main idea, and also the rest of content, grammatical error, vocabulary difficulty, making brainstorming phase, forgot or confused to determine conclusion, punctuation, translation and coherence problem, mistake in language (sentence structure, spelling and word choice).

Selain mempelajari grammar dan empat skill bahasa Inggris (Listening, speaking, reading, writing), siswa diharapkan dapat menguasai kosakata sesuai dengan level yang seharusnya mereka kuasai. Dengan mempelajari banyak kosakata bahasa Inggris, siswa diharapkan dapat berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris dan juga menjawab banyak butir soal dalam ulangan harian, ujian semester, bahkan UNBK (Unjian Nasional Berbasis Komputer) untuk pelajaran bahasa Inggris. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a significant effect of using power point media on students’ English learning motivation to the eleventh-grade students of SMK MUHAMADYAH 1 Samarinda in 2018/2019 Academic Year. Self-Regulated Learning itself means the method that students take control in understanding of knowledge from the lecturer by conducting their own way in learning. The design of this study was quantitative with survey design to measure students’ academic self-regulation and self-regulation in writing class context. The population of this study were third semester students of English Department of University of Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda, Indonesia, which consist of two classes with totally 37 students, who have studied English writing. Questionnaire were applied to measured two aspects; students’ academic self-regulation (77 items) and self-regulation concerning English writing subject (14 items), using Likert Scales. Translation is one of the important thing in learning English, therefore in this study, the purpo... more Translation is one of the important thing in learning English, therefore in this study, the purpose were to know the kinds of error and the kinds of error that was mostly made by the sixth semester students of English Department of Widya Gama Mahakam University in translating a news article. The design of the study was explanatory research and the method of this study was mixed method. The sample of this study was 70% from population of sixth semester students of English Department of Widya Gama Mahakam University. Data collection technique was simple random sampling. Data analyzing technique was 6 steps of data analysis stated by Creswell (1984; 154-158). According to error analysis of naturalness in translating The Jakarta Post post article by sixth semester students of English Department of Widya Gama Mahakam in academic year 2018/2019, the result of this study was the students committed all of kinds of error from level of naturalness in translation. The kind of error mostly made by the sixth semester students of English Department of Widya Gama Mahakam University in translating a news article was Cognate Word (72.5%, 95 errors). While the rest of the errors were made by Sentence Structure (15 errors, 11.5%), Other 'obvious' Area of Interference (8 errors, 6.2%), Word Order (7 errors, 5.3%), The Using of Gerund, Infinitive, Verb-Noun and Affix (6 errors, 4.5%), and there was no students who committed Old-fashioned error (0 errors, 0%).

Learning new language as a Foreign Language is obviously not easy. The Foreign Language learners ... more Learning new language as a Foreign Language is obviously not easy. The Foreign Language learners must find it hard to master. Therefore, there must be challenges that Foreign Language teachers face in classroom. The aim of this research is to investigate an English teacher in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to junior high school students at Ma'had Tahfidzul Qur'an, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The matters to be investigated include barriers the teacher faced as well as her strategies to solve the problems. The researcher used qualitative method for this study and conducted interview for the English teacher to reveal the findings. The result of semi-structured interview showed that the biggest challenge faced by the English teacher is the condition where the students are less-motivated in learning English. Several strategies are used by the teacher such as encouraging the students through verbal motivation as well as providing joyful activities such as conducting different kind of games to build positive mood and interest of students in leaning a new language. The use of proper teaching strategies is demanded in order to have English learning become students' habit. Therefore, implication of language teaching methodologies is also discussed in this research.
