The study investigated information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility and utilizati... more The study investigated information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility and utilization of teaching of business studies in secondary schools in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. A 20 item instruments of (ICTFAQ) and (ICTFUQ) were used for this study. The study sampled 66 business studies teachers in selected secondary schools in Anolga, Rivers State. The collected data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, while t-test was used to test the two generated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that ICT facilities were not available, and accessed by teachers in secondary schools in Anolga. It was also revealed that business studies teachers in these schools, do not also have the skills of utilizing ICT for teaching of the subjects. Finally, recommendations on ways of solving the above menace were implemented for further consideration and implementation by both state and local government authorities.

A survey, causal-comparative research design was adopted. A population of 120 Accounting students was selected from three senior secondary schools in Rivers State. The entire population was used as sample because of its small size and no sampling technique was required from the population. Instruments titled ‘Continuous Assessment Questionnaire’ (CAQ) and ‘Accounting Students’ Academic Achievement Questionnaire’ (ASAAQ) was developed. The instrument was validated by experts in the field of Measurement and Evaluation, while the reliability of the instruments were established by the calculation of Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation to obtain an index of 0.72. Three research questions posed, and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 650 senior secondary school teachers in Rivers State. A total of 50% of the population was used as the sample size which was 325 teachers. Face validation of the research instrument used for data collection was carried out, while a reliability coefficient of 0.61 was obtained from the pilot study using the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. Youths occupy a prominent place in any society and outnumber the middle aged and the aged. In eve... more Youths occupy a prominent place in any society and outnumber the middle aged and the aged. In every society, they play important role for its sustainable development. Training programmes acquired through business education as a sub-set of vocational and technical education has over the years improved the employable skills of the youths. It is for this reason that emphasis should be placed on the need for the youths to be empowered through business education for the youths to be well-equipped with the needed knowledge, attitudes, competencies and skills so that they can be well-fitted for the world of work. There is need to constantly expose the business education students to the practical aspect of the programmes. This will assist them to acquire practical knowledge, competencies and skills in business working environments. This study investigated the extent to which guidance counselors apply confidentiality in counseli... more This study investigated the extent to which guidance counselors apply confidentiality in counseling practices in secondary schools in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. Eight hundred secondary schools students participated as respondents in this study. Purposive sampling procedure was adopted to select eight (8) local government areas used in this study. A self-structured Application of Confidentiality in Counseling Rating Scale (ACCRS) based on the Likert type of scale was used in collecting data for the study. Mean scores were extracted and used to answer the research question while Multiple Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The results of this study revealed that guidance counselors kept secret of all the conversations and discussions they had with their clients during their counseling practices and that there was significant difference existing in the perception of secondary school students on extent to which guidance counselors apply the ethics of confidentiality in counseling practices. The study also exposed the existence of significant difference in the perception of secondary school students on extent to which guidance counselors apply the ethics of confidentiality in their counseling practices and that interaction effect did not exist in the perception of male and female secondary school students on the guidance counselors' application of ethics of confidentiality during their counseling practices among the secondary schools investigated. It was recommended that both the guidance counselors and the counselees should apply the ethics of confidentiality in their counseling programs therefore keeping secret of all their discussions and that they should ensure that code of ethics of confidentiality in counseling profession is seriously maintained and emphasized.

The purpose of this study was to conduct extensive needs assessment survey of communities in Ando... more The purpose of this study was to conduct extensive needs assessment survey of communities in Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas in Rivers State, Nigeria with emphasis on their real needs, felt needs in their order of priority and the possible intervention strategies. The population for this study consisted of five respondents drawn from each community in the two Local Government Areas. Adult women and men and youth indigenes of the communities investigated constituted the population for the study. The sample size of 23 communities is the representation of 30% of 50 identified communities in Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas. The sample size of 230 respondents (that is 10 persons from each community) was used for this study. Stratified simple random sampling method was used to select the sample size. The stratification was on the basis of adult women and men and youth citizens of the communities. Community Needs Assessment Rating Scale (CoNARS) was developed and used for data collection for this study. Descriptive analysis technique was adopted to analyze the data and frequency scores of respondents' responses were extracted and used in the analysis in order to answer the research questions and presented as the results of the study. This study investigated the extent to which the implementation of educational reforms could influ... more This study investigated the extent to which the implementation of educational reforms could influence human capital development in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The design used was the descriptive survey. The sample for the study consisted of 376 University academic staff, using the simple random sampling technique. The instrument used for the study was the questionnaire. The research questions were personally administered by the researchers. To guide the study, one question was posed and answered and one hypothesis formulated and accepted at 0.05 level of significance. The statistical tools used to analyze the data were simple percentage, mean and t-test respectively. It was found that poor commitment to implementation; lack of public involvement and support; and lack of stability, continually, work tools and understanding of policies among others dominated the factors inhibiting the effective implantation of educational reforms and human capital development policies in Nigeria. The study suggests the need to review reforms with recourse to existing legislations, provision of adequate funding and wide consultations with experts and stakeholders to arrive at consensus on best possible ways of implementing reforms among others.

The abstrac was culled from a Ph.D. thesis of the Department of. Science Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka. This current research study adopted the descriptive summary research design. The population for the study consists of 240 respondents drawn from government establishments and universities in Rivers State. One research question as well as an hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. A four (4) points Likert type of scale ranging from Strongly Agree (SA-4 points), Agree (A-3 points), Disagree (D-2 points) to Strongly Disagree (SD-1 point) were used for the items on the questionnaire. A mean of 2.5 was determined as the cutoff point for the items. t-test statistic was used to test the only formulated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. It was discovered that research findings as well as recommendations were not used for policy formulation and decision making in public establishments as well as universities. The implications for-the study were noted.

The study consists of 62 respondents drawn from 3 tertiary institutions that offer business education programmes in rivers state. One research question as well as one hypothesis was generated to guide the study. a 4 point Likert scale ranging from categories of strongly Agree (SA-4 points), Agree (A-3 points), Disagree (D-2 Points) and strongly Disagree (SD-1 point) were used for the items on the questionnaire. This study investigated the extent to which the implementation of educational reforms could influ... more This study investigated the extent to which the implementation of educational reforms could influence human capital development in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The design used was the descriptive survey. The sample for the study consisted of 376 University academic staff, using the simple random sampling technique. The instrument used for the study was the questionnaire. The research questions were personally administered by the researchers. To guide the study, one question was posed and answered and one hypothesis formulated and accepted at 0.05 level of significance. The statistical tools used to analyze the data were simple percentage, mean and t-test respectively. It was found that poor commitment to implementation; lack of public involvement and support; and lack of stability, continually, work tools and understanding of policies among others dominated the factors inhibiting the effective implantation of educational reforms and human capital development policies in Nigeria. The study suggests the need to review reforms with recourse to existing legislations, provision of adequate funding and wide consultations with experts and stakeholders to arrive at consensus on best possible ways of implementing reforms among others.

The abstrac was culled from a Ph.D. thesis of the Department of. Science Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka. This current research study adopted the descriptive summary research design. The population for the study consists of 240 respondents drawn from government establishments and universities in Rivers State. One research question as well as an hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. A four (4) points Likert type of scale ranging from Strongly Agree (SA-4 points), Agree (A-3 points), Disagree (D-2 points) to Strongly Disagree (SD-1 point) were used for the items on the questionnaire. A mean of 2.5 was determined as the cutoff point for the items. t-test statistic was used to test the only formulated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. It was discovered that research findings as well as recommendations were not used for policy formulation and decision making in public establishments as well as universities. The implications for-the study were noted.

This has become an issue of serious concern and challenge to all Nigerians and even the multinational companies operating in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The need for Niger Delta youths to be encouraged to offer business education as a programme of study to enable them acquire the necessary entrepreneurial skills in order to fit into the Nigerian economic sector is necessary. This is assist to curb youth restiveness in Niger Delta Region. Having recognised these facts, this paper examines the need for the development of entrepreneurial skills through business education for the youths to acquire the needed knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills in order to be practically enterprising and self-reliant and to curb youth restiveness. These skills, the paper argues, can basically be developed through well designed business education programme and curriculum, which devoted professional business educators are expected to efficiently implement.

The study consists of 62 respondents drawn from 3 tertiary institutions that offer business education programmes in rivers state. One research question as well as one hypothesis was generated to guide the study. a 4 point Likert scale ranging from categories of strongly Agree (SA-4 points), Agree (A-3 points), Disagree (D-2 Points) and strongly Disagree (SD-1 point) were used for the items on the questionnaire. Simple percentage was used for the item analysis. A mean score of 2.5 was determined as the cutoff point for the items. The t-test statistic was used to test the only generated hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. It was discovered that research findings as well as the recommendations were not used for qualitative decision making for business education undergraduate programmes in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The implications of the study were highlighted.
