However, not all its influence has been positive. The oil in the Venezuelan economy has also served to distort to a certain degree the political mentality and its social action. This distortion is centered on a rentier pattern based on the royalist right that emerged from the colony. Expression of these claims is the economic thought developed by Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo, which is a must for oil scholars in Venezuela and the world. Thus, this essay analyzed the thinking that Pérez Alfonso developed in oil matters in a most important work: Plunging into the Excrement of the Devil Pérez Alfonzo (1975). It is concluded that Venezuelan economic thinking in oil has a high political content and revolves around the economic nationalism inherited from the actions of Simón Bolívar, whose roots are found in Spanish colonial law. The manifestation of this thinking is the idea of nationalization of productive enterprises, the realization of large public works, widespread use of spending and public debt and a broad regulation on economic matters.
