Since then, she has been living in Aceh with slight contactsto her Bataknese relatives in her hometown. Now, she has excelled in Acehnese and she believed that thishad caused her to “forget” her Bataknese. Consequently, this study aims to collect and to furtherunderstand her thoughts, views, and perspectives upon her heritage language attrition or loss. In addition, this study also attempts to discuss the factors influencing this loss. The results of the interview havesuggested that our informant had faced confusion when she first settled in Langsa; this included newfamily, new environment, new faith, new culture, including a new language spoken by the society,Acehnese. Due to these factors, she implied that her initial Bataknese identity had “re-constructed” toaccommodate her new settlement. This can be seen from her reluctance to inherit her Bataknese languageto her fourchildren. Regardless of theories that claim children are more likely to lose their first languagethan adults, thus this case study has proven that it can also apply to adults (i.e. the informant of thisstudy), provided that the speaker is intensely confronted by internal and external factors throughout herlife.

vowels produced by male and female language consultants in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, as their first language. Using purposive sampling, ten Acehnese males and ten Acehnese females were selected to articulate eight target vowels: /i/, /e/, /ɛ/, /ә/, /a/, /u/, /o/, and /ɔ/. Vowel measurements were obtained through recorded word elicitation, using a word list containing the target vowels. F1 and F2 frequencies in Hertz were determined and analyzed using Praat software to assess vowel qualities and subsequently converted to the Bark scale. Vowels were plotted on the F1/F2 formant space. The findings illustrate the distinct measurements of each Indonesian monophthong vowel by male and female consultants, represented in the vowel space. Male vowels generally exhibit higher and more centralized positioning, while female vowels appear more dispersed and lower. This research contributes valuable insights for comparing vowel systems across various languages and dialects spoken in multilingual Indonesia.

The primary aim is to analyze the types of meaning present in these Acehnese songs using a semantic approach. The objectives are to identify and categorize meanings based on six distinct types: conceptual, social, affective, collocative, connotative, and associative. The qualitative analysis of the song lyrics revealed 186 distinct meanings. Conceptual meaning was the predominant type, with a majority of instances, followed by social meaning, affective meaning, collocative meaning, and connotative meaning. Notably, no occurrences of associative meaning were found. The prevalence of conceptual meaning in the lyrics suggests a focus on social criticism, conditions, and personal narratives within Apache13’s songs. Conversely, the limited use of connotative meaning aligns with a preference for direct and explicit expression among Acehnese youth, reflecting contemporary cultural norms. This study contributes to understanding the nuanced meanings conveyed through contemporary Acehnese music, reflecting generational differences in expressive language use.

1973 to 2005, which coincided with the devastating impact of the mega earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004. Subsequently, the province faced the global outbreak of COVID-19 in 2019. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of the education quality of the youth in this province by considering the various complex challenges they encounter over time is warranted. This study sought to describe the implementation of integrated total quality management and explore the correlation and relationship among customer satisfaction, leadership, and control/evaluation regarding the quality of online teaching and learning (QOLT) within senior high schools in Aceh Province, Indonesia, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 200 participants completed online survey questionnaires for data collection. The findings revealed that all independent variables (customer satisfaction, leadership, and control/evaluation) significantly influenced QOLT. However, a weak relationship existed between customer
satisfaction and control/evaluation, and the correlation between leadership and control/evaluation was less pronounced. Overall, this study highlights the importance of integrated total quality management in enhancing QOLT in Aceh Province during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings contribute to the understanding of the factors that impact education quality and can inform strategies for improving the effectiveness of the education system in similar contexts.

There is a scarcity of studies that specifically examine the lullaby concerning its kinds of compassion based on the religious teachings of Islam. Hence, this study intends to fill in the gap by probing the kinds of compassion embedded in "Ratéb Dôda Idi" and how religion plays a role in immersing these teachings. It employed an ethnographic case study to analyse the verses by interviewing 17 Acehnese elders to obtain data. The results showed that the lullabies contain five kinds of compassion essential to Acehnese society-compassions for parents, teachers, society, nature and the homeland. It is necessary to preserve this tradition of local wisdom because language, religion and cultural heritage reflect and shape the values, beliefs and aspirations that define and keep their integrity as an Acehnese society. This kind of study thus helps our understanding of the values expressed in lullabies from many cultures and these beliefs are mirrored in the society of the singers (i.e., speakers).

Nearly 95 percent of the houses and buildings were wiped out by the tsunami and more than 80 percent of the people living in this area were killed. One of the reasons why such a heartbreaking tragedy occurred was that people including students had never known or been taught about disaster mitigation. Learning from this condition, SDN 48, a state primary school located in the area, has offered a disaster education program to the students. The program has been going for more than two years and is feasible to study to see its impact on students. For this purpose, the researchers conducted interviews with the teachers including the school principal and students. It was found that the program has benefited both teachers and students in the knowledge of disaster mitigation. Nevertheless, their literacy on this issue is deemed still low. Therefore, the teacher respondents suggested improvements in the program that include continuous training for the teachers, better and upgraded facilities, and having parents be included in the program's activities. The discussion reflects that incorporating the disaster education program into the curriculum could sustain its position as an important subject to be taught to students in schools located in disaster-prone areas.

of compositions such as essays. This research aims to identify the manifestations of anxiety experienced by
students during the composition of English essays and to ascertain the underlying factors precipitating such
anxiety. Employing qualitative methodology, the study utilized questionnaires and interviews as research
instruments to collect the data. Participants consisted of 34 fifth-semester students from the Department of
English Education at Universitas Syiah Kuala who completed the questionnaire adopted from the Second
Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) proposed by Cheng (2004). Ten of them were interviewed
using the instrument adapted from The Cause of Writing Anxiety Inventory (CWAI) developed by Rezaei and
Jafari (2014). The results revealed that cognitive anxiety was predominant, afflicting 43.5% of the respondents.
Additionally, linguistic difficulties, low self-confidence, fear of negative evaluation, and pressure of perfect
work emerged as pivotal sources of essay-writing anxiety. These findings underline the multifaceted nature of
student anxiety during English essay composition, thereby serving as a valuable resource for educational
stakeholders seeking insights to enhance students' writing competencies.

It employed pre-experimental quantitative research. A number of 25 students from class X-3 were purposively chosen as the sample of this study. In collecting the data, the researchers used tests (pre-test and post-test) as the instrument, and the results were analyzed by using statistics. The results showed that the mean scores of the pre-test and posttest were 37.2 and 73.2, respectively. The mean score of the post-test was higher than the mean score of the pre-test, with the T-test value of 4,556, and the critical value in the t-table (0.05) of 1.711. This implies that the t-score is higher than the t-table (t-score = 4.534> t-table = 1.711), and thus the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In conclusion, teaching English by using the Mystery Box game to improve these EFL students' speaking skills succeeded. Consequently, the use of this game is among the alternative media to be used by English teachers in augmenting their students' skills in speaking English. When students achieve the accuracy and mastery of speaking skills, at a later stage, it can help them move to the improvement of other language skills.

The motivation of first-year students to learn English was examined in this study. It involved 77 first-year students from the Department of English Education at Universitas Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh, 56 of whom were females and 21 of whom were males. The research tool utilized to gather the data was a questionnaire. The Attitude/Motivation Test Battery served as its model. The acquired data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 23. The results demonstrated that instrumental motivation's mean score (M=44.18) is higher than integrative motivation's (M=43.38). However, there was little difference (at 0.92 percent). Therefore, it can be said that both integrative and instrumental motivations drove these students. Both of these motivations are closely related and function as learning objectives with a lot of value. This means that students' integrative and instrumental motivations were essential and employed. By achieving more skill and success in the target language, both integrative and instrumental motivations benefit as a result of the student's learning.

The interviews were held with 20 people from six districts in Aceh province, Indonesia. Data were collected from elders aged 60 and above, and Acehnese is spoken as their mother tongue. Since they did not travel much (except for occasional holidays with families and Hajj pilgrimage), they are deemed untainted native speakers of Acehnese. For analysis, grounded by the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, this study found that the metaphorical expressions in the Acehnese culture that dehumanize people mostly use animals' concepts, and the rests are of the inanimate entity, and plants. The negative meanings present human as animals are such as agam buya (crocodile man), kamèng keudèe (goat in the market), manok agam (cock), among others, and the positive ones that present human as plants are boh lam ôn (a leaf-covered fruit) and padé jum (wet rice). They negatively or positively describe a person's behavior where the negative ones are commonly associated with a person's corrupt behavior and the positive ones for good behavior. Most of the dehumanizing metaphors are genderless; only a few are gender-based. Acehnese is a genderless language that has no distinctions of grammatical gender. These metaphors inform the conceptual system or belief of the Acehnese society through language use.
