Nowadays, concerted efforts are being made at individual and group levels to sustain peace. The dominant paradigm adopted in dousing the menace of conflicts in Nigeria has been the use of gun and militarisation. However, this approach has been widely criticised as full of human rights abuse and incapable of restoring lasting peace. Furthermore, evidence has shown that violent extremists have made effective use of the media (directly or indirectly), especially cyberspace, to advance their propagandistic aims and radicalism. This chapter provides an exploratory review on understanding the impacts and prospects of peace media in the context of peacebuilding toward countering violent extremism and sustaining peace through peacebuilding using peace broadcast media in the northeast of Nigeria.

It examined the formats of news translation and presentation, policy requirement as well as identified the challenges of translating and presenting news in indigenous language. The study was anchored on gate-keeping theory to justify the manipulations deployed by the news translators and presenters in the practice. The study purposively conducted ten (10) key informant interviews with selected news translators and presenters purposively drawn from five broadcast media stations in Borno State. Findings indicate that, news is translated and presented in more than two indigenous languages on the average in most broadcast stations in Borno State. Broadcast stations adopt 'caster only' as a style used for translated news presentation. The study further found that news translators encounter difficulty in translating certain concepts from the source language. The study concludes that news translation and presentation is a popular practice in media organizations in Borno State.

The inadequacies and limited practical sessions in the Department of Mass Communication within Nigeria calls for the introduction and establishment of campus radio to serve as platform for student apprenticeship in media training. This paper provides an analogy of the emergence of campus radio and how it has been embedded in journalism and mass communication training in Nigerian universities. The paper relies on the tenets of diffusion of innovation theory to explain campus radio emergence. The paper identifies the various departments and educational programmes broadcast on Kanem FM. The paper also discusses the pedagogical approach to decolonizing campus radio stations in Nigeria. It advocates the need to introduce paid internships during holidays to enable students work extra hours and earn some stipends as done in other climes, so as to address the issue of programmes repetition.

Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, succeeded Kashim Shettima on May 29, 2019 as the sixth civilian governor of Borno State. The objectives of the study are to review Hausa political songs that portray governor Babagana Umara Zulum, identify the labelling ascribed to the governor by the singers and the nature of political narrative portrayed. The study was underpinned by the agenda setting theory to ascertain how the selected political Hausa songs expressed the policy agenda of the Zulum led government. The study relied on the assumptions of Textual Analysis as a method and purposively analysed five (5) politicalsongs produced by Ikram Kano and Amina Amisco. The study established that the political narratives of the Zulum administration in political songs provided epithet for the governor that justified his developmental strides. Findings reveal that the Hausa political songs portrayed the connection of the governor with the masses, the specificity of projects and priority for projects as well as political enemies. The political music produced by Ikram Kano and Amina Amisco serves as means of promoting the developmental works executed by the Zulum led administration.

The proliferation of digital technologies particularly new media platforms has increasingly changed the way people including public servants use, access, consume and share information to people and organisations. Through desk review, the paper highlights preventive measures for official document leakage, how official documents leak in the age of new media and implications to public service administration. The paper also highlights preventive measures through developing new media policy, monitoring, control mechanisms and regular update on security. The paper concludes that the era of new media has made government affairs to be highly vulnerable particularly in terms of managing sensitive information and official documents. Despite the advantages of new media such as its interactivity, easy access, global reach, speed, storage facility among others, government finds it challenging to regulate or positively control peoples' attitude towards use of such technologies.

Borno Radio Television (BRTV) and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) are two broadcast stations situated in Maiduguri, the capital of the Nigerian state of Borno where religion forms core part of the people's culture. Islamic religious preaching forms a key part of the stations' programs especially during the annual Ramadan fasting season. The broadcasting industry regulatory body in Nigeria, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) stipulates that religious programs should not exceed a 10% of the total programs of a particular broadcast outlet. Observations have revealed that a large percentage of BRTV and NTA's airtime is allocated to Islamic preaching during the 29-or 30-day Ramadan fasting period. However, is the airtime allocated to Islamic programs in those stations within the NBC 10% limits or not? To answer this research question, a comparative analysis was made of religious programs broadcast on the two broadcast outlets in the second quarter of 2019. The data were obtained using Key Informant Interviews with 5 personnel from BRTV, NTA and NBC in Maiduguri, and relevant official documents including the stations' program schedules were reviewed. Key findings suggest that the airtime allocated to religious programs were more than the 10% limit while BRTV Maiduguri allocated more airtime to religious programs than NTA Maiduguri. Also, Islamic religious programs were allocated more airtime than programs of other religions.

A background was laid on how schools of thoughts viewed the spread of terrorism in the 21st century as it oppose what is obtained two or three decades back. The paper reviewed historical evolution and gestation of the act of terrorism from a threat to remote communities to becoming global affair. The paper stood on three objectives which are: to review the global view of the concept of terrorism before and after 9/11 attack; to review global counter terrorism efforts and strategies and to review some notable Hollywood and Bollywood films produced on terrorism The result of the review revealed number of counter-terrorism efforts in policy and strategy at individual countries, alliances, regional collaborations and global stride; some films produced by Hollywood and Bollywood on terrorism and terrorists activities were also reviewed. It was concluded that the mobilization of military might have been recognised as not enough to curb the fast surge and spread of terrorism, thus deploying media apparatus such as films to complement the force. Number of recommendation was made to engage media especially films in the global counter-terrorism fight. It was also recommended that African film industries should be fully encouraged and supported to participate in the fight against terrorism.

However, there is a dearth of research on whether the airtime those broadcast stations allocate to Islamic programming complies with the NBC code on religious programming. This research gap formed the main research question of this study which was conducted during the second quarter of 2019. Primary data were collected using key informant interviews with five personnel from the two broadcast stations and the Maiduguri office of NBC, while secondary data were obtained through the review of official documents. Key findings showed that the airtime allocated to religious programmes exceeded the 10% NBC limit, BRTV allocated more airtime to religious programmes than NTA Maiduguri and Islamic programmes were allocated more airtime than programmes of other religions. Recommendations on how to improve compliance to NBC's regulations were offered at the end.
