This study examined the tyrosinase inhibitory potential of bengkoang peel standardised ethanolic ... more This study examined the tyrosinase inhibitory potential of bengkoang peel standardised ethanolic extract and ethyl acetate fractions. 450 g of bengkoang peel powder (Pachyrhizus erosus L.) was macerated with 96% ethanol for 2 x 24 h, filtered, and concentrated till viscous. Extract standardisation uses specific and non-specific parameters. Microplate colorimetric tyrosinase inhibition assays were performed. The result of plant determination identified the bengkoang peel as Pachyrhizus erosus (L.) Urb. The organoleptic test revealed a brownish-yellow viscous extract, fresh smell, and bitter taste. Ethanol-soluble extract was 47.60% and water-soluble 22.42%. Bengkoang peel ethanolic extract includes alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Potensi munculnya interaksi obat-jamu dengan metformin dan glibenklamid dapat mempengaruhi efektivitas menurunkan kadar glukosa darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji interaksi farmakodinamika (aktivitas farmakologi) dari metformin dan glibenklamid yang dikombinasikan dengan jamu A (Smallanthus sonchifolius) dan jamu B (Andrographis paniculata (Burm. F), Boesenbergia pandurata Roxb, Phyllanthus niruri L, Syzigii polyanthi) dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tikus yang diinduksi aloksan. Metode KLT-Densitometer digunakan untuk skrining fitokimia dengan membandingkan profil kromatogram (nilai Rf) dari jamu dan ekstrak etanol tanaman. Flavonoids function to slow down the inflammatory process by inhibiting the arachidonic acid, forming prostaglandins, and releasing histamine. This study aimed to examine the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of MBP decoction. This study used the Winter method for anti-inflammatory assay by induction of carrageenan on the soles of rat's feet and Sigmund's method for analgesic assay with intraperitoneal induction of acetic acid in mice. Purpose: To determine the effect of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) extract on glutathione-S-tra... more Purpose: To determine the effect of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) extract on glutathione-S-trasferase (GST) activity and its hepatoprotective effect.Methods: A total of 25 rats were divided randomly into 5 groups (5 rats per group). Group I served as the baseline, group II was the negative control group, while groups III, IV and V were treated with rosella extract at doses of 10, 50 and 100 mg /kg /day, respectively for 35 days. On day 36, the animals were given a single dose of dimethyl benz(a)anthracene (DMBA) orally. After one week, blood was taken from the sinus orbitalis for measurement of serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) and serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) activities by a kinetic method with DIasys® kit. This research aimed to examine physical characteristics and investigate the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of soursop leaves in a scrub cream. Soursop leaves powder was extracted with 70% ethanol and formulated as scrub cream at the concentration of 1.4%, 2.8%, and 4.2%, then evaluated for physical characteristics. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl) method. The result showed that the scrub cream at all concentrations tested fulfilled all physical characteristics required for good topical preparations. These included organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, and adhesion. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah paparan sinar UV berlebihan pada kulit. Dengan demikian diperlukan adanya suatu produk yang dapat melindungi kulit dari bahaya sinar UV. Pada penelitian terdahulu buah jamblang dilaporkan memiliki nilai faktor perlindungan terhadap matahari (sun protection factor/SPF) yaitu 2,278±0,25% yang berpotensi untuk dibuat sediaan tabir surya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat formula losion ekstrak buah jamblang (Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels) yang kemudian diuji karakteristik fisik dan efektivitas tabir surya dari produk tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan aktivitas antioksidan dari lulur krim ekstrak etanol daun sirsak. Serbuk kering daun sirsak diekstraksi dengan etanol 70% kemudian dibuat formula lulur krim dengan konsentrasi 1,4%, 2,8%, dan 4,2% lalu dilakukan uji sifat fisiknya. Aktivitas antioksidan ditentukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lulur krim ekstrak daun sirsak pada semua konsentrasi memenuhi semua persyaratan uji sifat fisik sediaan topikal yang baik. Mesua ferrea L. (Ceylon ironwood, Calophyllaceae) is a popular medicinal plant with a long histor... more Mesua ferrea L. (Ceylon ironwood, Calophyllaceae) is a popular medicinal plant with a long history of use in South-and Southeast Asian folk medicines. In this study, the qualitative phytochemical analysis, FTIR fingerprint, as well as antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the crude extract of M. ferrea leaves and its fractions were reported. The dried leaves of M. ferrea were extracted with ethanol by the re-maceration method. The crude extract was further partitioned in ethanol-water and ethyl acetate to obtain ethanol and ethyl acetate fractions, respectively. The identification of compounds in the extract and fractions was conducted according to the standard phytochemical screening method. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was utilized to record the metabolites fingerprint of the extract and its fractions. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated with the disk diffusion method against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The antioxidant activity assay was determined with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. The crude extract of M. ferrea leaves and its fractions contained saponins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and terpenoids. The FTIR data supported the presence of terpenoids and glycosides in those samples. The extract and fractions demonstrated considerable antimicrobial activity against all tested bacteria and fungi, with MIC values were 3.9-31.3 μg/ml. The ethyl acetate fraction of M. ferrea leaves showed the best antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 49.19 μg/ml. M. ferrea is used as deodorant, diaphoretic and stimulant, as well as a brain tonic, appetizer, antiemetic, anthelminthic, aphrodisiac, diuretic and antidote (Suresh, Chandra, Meeta, & Deep, 2014). It is the identity flora of Banyumas, and traditionally is used for the treatment of leukemia, mental illness, liver disorder, dengue fever, and heart disease by people in Baturraden, Banyumas (Suparman, Diniatik, Kusumaningrum, & Yulianto, 2012). In Pidie, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, M. ferrea is used as one of the ingredients of post-natal concoction for the mothers (Viena, Yunita, Irhamni, Saudah, & Ernilasari, 2018). This research aimed to examine physical characteristics and investigate the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of soursop leaves in a scrub cream. Soursop leaves powder was extracted with 70% ethanol and formulated as scrub cream at the concentration of 1.4%, 2.8%, and 4.2%, then evaluated for physical characteristics. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl) method. The result showed that the scrub cream at all concentrations tested fulfilled all physical characteristics required for good topical preparations. These included organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, and adhesion. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah paparan sinar UV berlebihan pada kulit. Dengan demikian diperlukan adanya suatu produk yang dapat melindungi kulit dari bahaya sinar UV. Pada penelitian terdahulu buah jamblang dilaporkan memiliki nilai faktor perlindungan terhadap matahari (sun protection factor/SPF) yaitu 2,278±0,25% yang berpotensi untuk dibuat sediaan tabir surya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat formula losion ekstrak buah jamblang (Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels) yang kemudian diuji karakteristik fisik dan efektivitas tabir surya dari produk tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan aktivitas antioksidan dari lulur krim ekstrak etanol daun sirsak. Serbuk kering daun sirsak diekstraksi dengan etanol 70% kemudian dibuat formula lulur krim dengan konsentrasi 1,4%, 2,8%, dan 4,2% lalu dilakukan uji sifat fisiknya. Aktivitas antioksidan ditentukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lulur krim ekstrak daun sirsak pada semua konsentrasi memenuhi semua persyaratan uji sifat fisik sediaan topikal yang baik. (Ceylon ironwood, Calophyllaceae) is a popular medicinal plant with a long history of use in South-and Southeast Asian folk medicines. In this study, the qualitative phytochemical analysis, FTIR fingerprint, as well as antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the crude extract of M. ferrea leaves and its fractions were reported. The dried leaves of M. ferrea were extracted with ethanol by the re-maceration method. The crude extract was further partitioned in ethanol-water and ethyl acetate to obtain ethanol and ethyl acetate fractions, respectively. The identification of compounds in the extract and fractions was conducted according to the standard phytochemical screening method. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was utilized to record the metabolites fingerprint of the extract and its fractions. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated with the disk diffusion method against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The antioxidant activity assay was determined with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. The crude extract of M. ferrea leaves and its fractions contained saponins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and terpenoids. The FTIR data supported the presence of terpenoids and glycosides in those samples. The extract and fractions demonstrated considerable antimicrobial activity against all tested bacteria and fungi, with MIC values were 3.9-31.3 μg/ml. The ethyl acetate fraction of M. ferrea leaves showed the best antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 49.19 μg/ml. M. ferrea is used as deodorant, diaphoretic and stimulant, as well as a brain tonic, appetizer, antiemetic, anthelminthic, aphrodisiac, diuretic and antidote (Suresh, Chandra, Meeta, & Deep, 2014). It is the identity flora of Banyumas, and traditionally is used for the treatment of leukemia, mental illness, liver disorder, dengue fever, and heart disease by people in Baturraden, Banyumas (Suparman, Diniatik, Kusumaningrum, & Yulianto, 2012). In Pidie, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, M. ferrea is used as one of the ingredients of post-natal concoction for the mothers (Viena, Yunita, Irhamni, Saudah, & Ernilasari, 2018).
