The data was collected by a face-toface interview method from 144 corn farms during 2011. The energy ratios for seed and grain corns were calculated as 0.89 and 2.65, respectively. Several multilayer perceptron ANNs with six neurons in the input layer and one to three hidden layers with different number of neurons in each layer and one neuron (seed or grain corn yield) in the output layer was developed and tested. Energy inputs including fertilizers, biocides, seeds, human labor, diesel fuel and machinery were considered as explanatory variables for the input layer. The best model for predicting seed and grain corn yields had 6-4-8-1 and 6-3-9-1 topologies, respectively. Model output value associated with the actual output had coefficient of determination (R 2) values of 0.9998 and 0.9978 for seed and grain corn, respectively. The corresponding regression models had R 2 values of 0.987 and 0.982, respectively. Sensitivity analysis showed that in seed corn production, diesel fuel and machinery, and in grain corn, diesel fuel and seeds consumption have the greatest effect on production yield.

Because of environmental concerns, crop cultivation is suggested as an excellent method of weed control. The object of this study was to design and construct a high speed inter-row cultivator. The speed of plowing has a significant effect not only on the depth of plowing but on factors which affect the quality of soil preparation such as loosening of the upper soil layer, cutting roots of the previous crops, covering and plowing in of weeds, leveling the finished surface of the field, displacement of the son layer and so on. In this study, the designed and constructed cultivator has a toolbar, unit frame, disk coulter and a flat sweep. The unit frame is attached to a tractor mounted tool bar by a suspension linkage. The suspension linkage allows the unit frame to move up and down relative to a tool bar that the cultivator unit is attached to. The numerical analysis was performed with COSMOS/M 1.71 FEM software (Structural Research and Analysis Corporation, CA).

In this work, the capability of machine visual systems, equipped with industrial digital cameras for the identification and classification of seven-grain groups in wheat seed samples, was studied. Two statistical models and three support vector machines were employed in this study. Through image processing of 21,000 single grains, the shape, colour, and textural features of each grain were determined. Ninety-one features were ranked through the ReliefF method. The shape features were the most prominent, followed by the textural and colour features. Among the five models tested, the highest classification accuracy was obtained using quadratic support vector machine (QSVM) and the first 35 features. In the test run of this model with independent data, the classification accuracy for sound white wheat, small white wheat, broken white wheat, shrunken white wheat, red wheat, bar...
