The study utilized a self-administered questionnaire with a selection of 30 attributes to empirically examine the topic using non-parametric statistical tools. Results indicate that cleanliness and parking facility were considered the most important attributes when selecting a hotel, and the study further indicated that age groups have significantly different opinions regarding seven attributes. In terms of gender, only cleanliness was a significant attribute. Categories of marital status also showed differences in 10 attributes. This study will be useful for managers of hotels in India to understand the expectations of travelers and a gap between available literature and present academic thrust will be filled. This study addresses an unexplored area, to identify actual differences in the opinions of travelers in a developing country's hotel industry.

Using fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis the research employs a nationwide survey of 243 hotel managers/ owners. The results reveal five sufficient configurations characterised by the development of enterprising competitiveness, the operational aspects, marketing and promotional concerns, business productivity and efficiency, and the financial issues of hotels. The research also compares asymmetric analysis with the dominant linear methods (regression and Cramer's V), highlighting the suitability of the former in chaordic systems. It also progresses from fit to predictive validity for the examined models. The study's contribution is to both theoretical and methodological tourism and hospitality domain.
