This article is about to discuss about the verse or letter of the Qur’an as a means of protection (mageri) themselves according to the angry interpretation of the labid and the views of the people in etc. Cikalan against the Qur’an as a personal protector. The research combines library research and field research with descriptive analysis and using the living Qur'an approach. The results of this study indicate that the Qur'an can be used as a means of personal protection. Berdasarkan penelusuran, akhirnya naskah-naskah keislaman hanya ditemukan di lima lokasi, baik di masyarakat maupun lembaga. Naskah-naskah yang tersimpan di masyarakat terletak di beberapa kampung Islam yang ada di lima lokasi penelitian. Katalog ini mendeskripsikan 178 naskah keislaman di Bali dalam lima lokasi.
This paper presents the results of research on contextualization efforts made by Islamic boarding... more This paper presents the results of research on contextualization efforts made by Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in learning religious texts (kitab) in West Sumatra. It is important to see the efforts of the Islamic boarding school related to the relevance between learning kitab and religious issues that arise in the present time. This research was done in two different shades of Islamic boarding schools in terms of their development history. Data were collected through textual analysis, interviews and observation. The results shows that pesantren maintained and made some progress to its activity of learning kitab, regarding their materials and their learning methods. Besides old method, which is reading kitab in class, Islamic boarding schools are implementing the other two methods, namely discussing and writing papers. Intertextuality of a religious manuscript can be used to understand the meaning and position of r... more Intertextuality of a religious manuscript can be used to understand the meaning and position of religious thought in the text. This research focuses on the relation between shari’ah/fiqh and tasawuf/hakikat in Yogyakarta Sultanete Milieu, through intertextual analysis of the manuscript Kempalan Kitab-Kitab Islam (code: MSB/H/15/SK92), a collection of Sonobudoyo Museum in Yogyakarta. This manuscript was studied by seeing its position between two texts in two traditions (keraton and pesantren), but in the same milieu (Sultanete Yogyakarta), i.e Serat Suryaraja (royal heritage of Yogyakarta Sultanete) and Al-Sunī al-maṭālib fī isṭilāḥal-‘awāqib by Kiai Nur Iman from Pesantren Mlangi of Yogyakarta. This research shows that Kempalan Kitab-Kitab Islam can be seen as a point which signifies the acceptance of sharia as part of a way of achieving “ilmu kesempurnaan” (the science of perfection) in the conception of Sufism in Java.

Studies on competition between certification bodies have been carried out, but these studies do not focus on the competition that occurs in Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia which is a big market for the halal industry. In Indonesia, the implementation of the regulation of Halal Product Guarantee (HPG) in Law No. 33 2014 still raises problems, including the related issue of inter-organizational relations. This article discusses the relations between organizations based on the interpretation of each party related to the Halal Product Guarantee policy, and the consequences arising from it. Tulisan tersebut terbit dalam majalah Basis pada Oktober 1984, dengan judul ‘Filologi dalam Era Pembangungan.’ Ia, dalam tulisan itu, mengatakan bahwa jika filolog bekerja sendiri, maka hanya akan berlomba dengan ngengat di museum atau perpustakaan yang kotor tak terawat. Oleh karena itu, filolog sebaiknya memberi umpan kepada ilmuwan sosial yang dalam era ini, (menurutnya waktu itu sebagai era pembangunan), baru berlaku sebagai pencetak gol. Gol selalu dicetak karena ada umpan dari sesama pemain. Kerja para filolog dalam era ini diibaratkan sebagai umpan terobosan yang dikirim kepada pencetak gol, yakni para peneliti ilmu sosial. Tulisan ini mendeskripsikan fungsi seni hadrah, khususnya yang berada di Lampung, meskipun hal in... more Tulisan ini mendeskripsikan fungsi seni hadrah, khususnya yang berada di Lampung, meskipun hal ini dapat juga terjadi di beberapa daerah lainnya, yang kenyataannya juga banyak ditampilkan oleh masyarakat Muslim di Indonesia. Tulisan ini hasil penelitian dengan pendekatan kualitatif yang data-datanya dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dan telaah pustaka. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengisi kekosongan studi kaitan antara Islam dan musik dalam budaya keagamaan di Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa seni hadrah dapat berfungsi sebagai pengiring ritual dan juga sebagai media dakwah, meskipun kadang-kadang juga dapat menjadi hiburan. Akan tetapi, fungsi utama sebagai media dakwah tetap dipegang dengan landasan pandangan dunia keutamaan pujian dan doa terhadap Tuhan dan Nabi Muhammad saw.

A number of traditional historiographies are narrated in manuscripts from Cirebon, not a few that... more A number of traditional historiographies are narrated in manuscripts from Cirebon, not a few that mention religious moderation. However, the babad manuscripts tend to change their perspective when it enters the Colonialism era. The narrative of tolerance between ethnic groups or between religions was experiencing serious friction. There is a manuscript that comes from the Cirebon tradition, which narrates implicitly about religious moderation in the early eras of the development of Islam and the port cities, namely Serat Carub Kandha. This article discusses three issues related to religious moderation in Serat Carub Kandha, namely: (1) the context behind the writing and copying of the Serat Carub Kandha manuscript; (2) the narrative of religious moderation in the Serat Carub Kandha; (3) Its relevance for current religious life in Indonesia. The interpretation toward the Covid-19 pandemic has influenced the pattern of response that has d... more The interpretation toward the Covid-19 pandemic has influenced the pattern of response that has developed. However, However, studies about the public response to the Covid-19 pandemic with their various cultural knowledge is still lacking. The present study strives to fill the gap in the relevant literature through a closer examination on the interpretation toward Covid-19 by a cultural figure in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region namely Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono (HB) X. Sapa Aruh text is the main focus of the present study. This article discusses two things: how does Sapa Aruh interpret the Covid-19 pandemic? Why did this interpretation appear? The text is not only the read or the written text, but also the viewed and the listened text. It display in the social media channels of the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region. Using thematic analysis and hermeneutic method, the present paper confirms that the Covid-19 pandemic does not only invite scientific interpretation but also religious and cultural interpretation. This interpretation does not only appear in separated manner but also in integrative manner. The integrative approach cannot be set apart from the horizon of tradition, knowledge, and culture that opens up the interpretation. The Sapa Aruh text by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X becomes the solid evidence of the integrated interpretation.
This paper compares transformation-based and constraint-based treatments of unbounded filler-gap ... more This paper compares transformation-based and constraint-based treatments of unbounded filler-gap dependencies, the latter specifically as articulated in terms of HPSG, and argues, contrary to the commonly made allegations of 'notational variance', that there is purely empirical evidence that is consistent with only the constraint-based account. Recent proposals to deal with parasitic gaps in terms of null pronominals and 'empty operators' are unable to account for the phenomenon of 'symbiotic' gaps, the apparent case mismatches found in parasitic gap constructions, or (in general) for the well-known 'across-the-board' effects within coordinate structures. 1 Filler/Gap Constructions: Two Approaches Historically, filler/gap constructions (or unbounded dependency constructions-UDCs) such as those in (1) have been approached two ways: (1) a. People could not practice religious moderation in full without understanding its historical roots... more People could not practice religious moderation in full without understanding its historical roots. These roots entail an examination of actors involved in its development. In Indonesia, a vital actor is an ulama, who has taught and practiced moderation in this region's history. An indicator of this moderation is the existence of tolerance in society which harmony is maintained, and conflicts are minimized. This study examined the idea of tolerance developed, taught, and exemplified by As-Singkili and Langgien, two Aceh ulama who lived before Indonesia's independence. This study uses qualitative methods with a historical and anthropological approach. By scrutinizing their handwritten works, this study found that moderate attitude and action by prioritizing tolerance have always been the default positions of these ulama over time. Limited to the study of two Aceh ulama in the past, subsequent research should be conducted on other religious figures who cultivate these roots of tolerance. By doing so, present and future generations could strengthen their religious moderation, valuing tolerance to guide their attitude and actions.

This art is rarely performed any more, even though it contains many values. One community group in Bandung, is trying to preserve this traditional art. This article examines efforts to preserve Beluk tradition by Ciapus society in Banjaran District, Bandung Regency, West Java. This research found that the beluk tradition existed in society around Bandung, especially in Ciapus Village, Banjaran Sub District, for a long day. It is an effort of society that has its tradition to preserve it because it has essential values, such as religious values and education. This article builds the argument that Beluk tradition needs to be preserved because of the uniqueness, traditional performance, and the values contained and conveyed through the tradition. But, nowadays, Beluk tradition has faced some problems preserving its existence. Therefore, several adaptations have been carried out, although it is necessary to consider the authenticity of the tradition.

However, However, studies about the public response to the Covid-19 pandemic with their various cultural knowledge is still lacking. The present study strives to fill the gap in the relevant literature through a closer examination on the interpretation toward Covid-19 by a cultural figure in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region namely Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono (HB) X. Sapa Aruh text is the main focus of the present study. This article discusses two things: how does Sapa Aruh interpret the Covid-19 pandemic? Why did this interpretation appear? The text is not only the read or the written text, but also the viewed and the listened text. It display in the social media channels of the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region. Using thematic analysis and hermeneutic method, the present paper confirms that the Covid-19 pandemic does not only invite scientific interpretation but also religious and cultural interpretation. This interpretation does not only appear in separated manner but also in integrative manner. The integrative approach cannot be set apart from the horizon of tradition, knowledge, and culture that opens up the interpretation. The Sapa Aruh text by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X becomes the solid evidence of the integrated interpretation.
This paper compares transformation-based and constraint-based treatments of unbounded filler-gap ... more This paper compares transformation-based and constraint-based treatments of unbounded filler-gap dependencies, the latter specifically as articulated in terms of HPSG, and argues, contrary to the commonly made allegations of 'notational variance', that there is purely empirical evidence that is consistent with only the constraint-based account. Recent proposals to deal with parasitic gaps in terms of null pronominals and 'empty operators' are unable to account for the phenomenon of 'symbiotic' gaps, the apparent case mismatches found in parasitic gap constructions, or (in general) for the well-known 'across-the-board' effects within coordinate structures. 1 Filler/Gap Constructions: Two Approaches Historically, filler/gap constructions (or unbounded dependency constructions-UDCs) such as those in (1) have been approached two ways: (1) a. People could not practice religious moderation in full without understanding its historical roots... more People could not practice religious moderation in full without understanding its historical roots. These roots entail an examination of actors involved in its development. In Indonesia, a vital actor is an ulama, who has taught and practiced moderation in this region's history. An indicator of this moderation is the existence of tolerance in society which harmony is maintained, and conflicts are minimized. This study examined the idea of tolerance developed, taught, and exemplified by As-Singkili and Langgien, two Aceh ulama who lived before Indonesia's independence. This study uses qualitative methods with a historical and anthropological approach. By scrutinizing their handwritten works, this study found that moderate attitude and action by prioritizing tolerance have always been the default positions of these ulama over time. Limited to the study of two Aceh ulama in the past, subsequent research should be conducted on other religious figures who cultivate these roots of tolerance. By doing so, present and future generations could strengthen their religious moderation, valuing tolerance to guide their attitude and actions.

This art is rarely performed any more, even though it contains many values. One community group in Bandung, is trying to preserve this traditional art. This article examines efforts to preserve Beluk tradition by Ciapus society in Banjaran District, Bandung Regency, West Java. This research found that the beluk tradition existed in society around Bandung, especially in Ciapus Village, Banjaran Sub District, for a long day. It is an effort of society that has its tradition to preserve it because it has essential values, such as religious values and education. This article builds the argument that Beluk tradition needs to be preserved because of the uniqueness, traditional performance, and the values contained and conveyed through the tradition. But, nowadays, Beluk tradition has faced some problems preserving its existence. Therefore, several adaptations have been carried out, although it is necessary to consider the authenticity of the tradition.

This paper presents the results of research on contextualization efforts made by Islamic boarding... more This paper presents the results of research on contextualization efforts made by Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in learning religious texts (kitab) in West Sumatra. It is important to see the efforts of the Islamic boarding school related to the relevance between learning kitab and religious issues that arise in the present time. This research was done in two different shades of Islamic boarding schools in terms of their development history. Data were collected through textual analysis, interviews and observation. The results shows that pesantren maintained and made some progress to its activity of learning kitab, regarding their materials and their learning methods. Besides old method, which is reading kitab in class, Islamic boarding schools are implementing the other two methods, namely discussing and writing papers. Intertextuality of a religious manuscript can be used to understand the meaning and position of r... more Intertextuality of a religious manuscript can be used to understand the meaning and position of religious thought in the text. This research focuses on the relation between shari’ah/fiqh and tasawuf/hakikat in Yogyakarta Sultanete Milieu, through intertextual analysis of the manuscript Kempalan Kitab-Kitab Islam (code: MSB/H/15/SK92), a collection of Sonobudoyo Museum in Yogyakarta. This manuscript was studied by seeing its position between two texts in two traditions (keraton and pesantren), but in the same milieu (Sultanete Yogyakarta), i.e Serat Suryaraja (royal heritage of Yogyakarta Sultanete) and Al-Sunī al-maṭālib fī isṭilāḥal-‘awāqib by Kiai Nur Iman from Pesantren Mlangi of Yogyakarta. This research shows that Kempalan Kitab-Kitab Islam can be seen as a point which signifies the acceptance of sharia as part of a way of achieving “ilmu kesempurnaan” (the science of perfection) in the conception of Sufism in Java.
