Its managementshould be focused on the patient, requiring an etiological diagnosis of pain, identification of the type of pain (nociceptive, neuropathic, or mixed), use of scales to assess pain intensity and quality of life, which will help us to see the evolution. We will carry out a comprehensive treatment plan that includes clear and realistic objectives, together with the optimized taking of medication, and always taking into consideration the opinion and preferences of the patient. We must not forget the improvement of functional capacity, adequate physical activity and changes in lifestyle. We will use drugs in the lowest effective doses and for the shortest periods of time possible. We must reevaluate the patient on a scheduled basis, especially those treated with potent opioids.
