Contributions of Seed Physical and Chemical Characters of Various Sorghum Genotypes (Sorghum bico... more Contributions of Seed Physical and Chemical Characters of Various Sorghum Genotypes (Sorghum bicolor [L.] Moench.) to Damaged Seed Induced by Weevil (Sitophilus sp.) During Storage. The percentage of damaged seeds due to feeding by Sitophilus sp. during storage varied among sorghum genotypes (Sorghum bicolor [L.] Moench.). Some researchers reported that the difference was influenced by the physical and chemical characters of the seed grains. This study aimed to determine the contribution of seed physical and chemical characters and their effect model on the percentage of damaged seeds due to weevil attack during storage. Measurement of damaged seeds was carried out on 34 sorghum genotypes after they were stored for four months under storage temperatures of 26 ºC and 18 ºC. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two storage periods [10 months (p1) and 12 months (p2)] and different sorghum varieties of Kawali (V1), Talaga Bodas (V2), Super-1 (V3), and Pahat (V4) on the physical quality and sorghum seed vigor. This experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Seeds and Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Lampung during November 2015 to November 2016. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two replications. The variable damaged seed was higher by 24.19% compared to seeds stored for 10 months at 14.73%. This research was to investigate the effect of P and application of B their response on growth, yield and quality of soybean seeds. This research was conducted at fieldland and the Laboratory of Seeds and Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung from November 2016 to April 2017. This treatment was arranged in a 6 × 2 factorial consisting of six doses of P2O5 (0; 50; 100; 150; 200; 250 kg/ha) and two concentration of B (0 and 5 ppm). This study was designed in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three blocks. Homogeneity of variance was tested by Barlett’s test and non-aditivity model using Tukey’s test and continued by orthogonal polynomials at α 0.05. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh intensitas pengusangan cepat dan perbedaan varietas pada viabilitas benih sorgum. To date, several of high yielding varieties and of improved lines has been generated in Indonesia. Handling and supply of sorghum seeds in a sustainable manner is necessary to continue its development. One of the factors that determine the sustainable handling and supplying of seed is seed storability, which may vary between items, or between genotypes. An experiment influence of maturity level on production and quality of seeds of sweet sorghum has... more An experiment influence of maturity level on production and quality of seeds of sweet sorghum has been done using a split plot design with three block as replication. As main plot sorghum varieties (V) consisted of Numbu (v1), Super-1 (v2), Super-2 (v3), and Kawali (v4). As a subplot maturity consisted of 37 HSB (t1) and 45 HSB (t2). There was no significant different in seed number per plant, but Kawali produced seed weight per plant lower than three of the varieties. Also, there were significant different of four varieties, namely in variable of weight of 1000 seeds, seed hardness, seed length, seed width, seed thickness, and seed volume. There was no significant different between maturity level that was only showed by variable of electric conductivity of seed. Keywords: maturity level, sorghum, seed quality.

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kombinasi perlakuan suhu deraan dan lama penderaan yang... more Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kombinasi perlakuan suhu deraan dan lama penderaan yang efektif menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan perlakuan faktorial 2 faktor (2x6) dalam rancangan kelompok teracak sempurna, dengan 3 kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah suhu yang terdiri dari 2 taraf, yaitu 39oC dan 41oC. Faktor kedua adalah lama penderaan yang terdiri dari 6 taraf, yaitu 0 jam, 24 jam, 48 jam, 72 jam, 96 jam, dan 120 jam. Data dianalisis dengan analisis ragam dan diuji lanjut menggunakan Uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT) dengan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi suhu deraan dan lama penderaan dapat menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat ditunjukkan oleh variabel kecambah normal kuat, panjang akar primer, dan bobot kering kecambah normal, dengan kombinasi suhu 39oC dengan lama penderaan 24 jam atau suhu 41oC dengan lama penderaan 24 jam.

Metode uji untuk menguji vigor benih adalah dengan pengusangan cepat secara fisik maupun kimiawi. Secara fisik, benih didera dengan suhu sedangkan secara kimiawi benih didera dengan etanol. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konsentrasi etanol untuk mendera benih yang dapat menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat, mengetahui lama penderaan dengan menggunakan larutan etanol yang dapat menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat, dan untuk mengetahui kombinasi antara konsentrasi larutan etanol dan lama penderaan yang dapat menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat. Perlakuan terdiri atas konsentrasi etanol 0, 3, 6, dan 9%, dan lama deraan etanol 6, 12, dan 18 jam. Perlakuan disusun secara faktorial pada rancangan kelompok teracak sempurna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi etanol dan lama deraan pada viabilitas benih buncis (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan perlakuan faktorial (3x4) dalam rancangan kelompok teracak lengkap (RKTL) dengan tiga ulangan, faktor pertama, yaitu konsentrasi etanol (0%, 3%, 6%, dan 9%) dan faktor kedua adalah lama waktu deraan (6, 12, dan 18 jam). Homogenitas ragam diuji dengan Uji Bartlett dan kemenambahan model diuji dengan Uji Tukey dan untuk melihat perbedaan antarnilai tengah perlakuan dilakukan Uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT) pada α = 0,05. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di desa Jatimulyo dan Laboratorium Benih Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Lampung pada bulan Juni 2012 sampai Agustus 2012. This study aimed to compare the viability of soybean seeds due to the natural storage period and due to accelerated aging with ethanol. The lot of Argomulyo soybean seeds was divided into five subloties. Sublot-1 was the soybean seeds given a natural storage under temperature of ± 26 ºC for 12 months. Sublot-2 was the soybean seeds given a natural storage under temperature of ± 18 ºC for 12 months. Sublot-3 was the soybean seeds applicated with the treatments of the absorption period 0-12 hours to ethanol solution of 8 % (LPLE8). Therefore, to study the impact of climate change on crops growth and production should begin with study the impact of air temperature on crops, so that the technique of making crops adapt to the climate change could be developed. Crops reaction on temperature change could be detected from the phenology and quantified with the Growing degree days (GDD). The objective of this research was to identify the impact of temperature change on strawberry phenology and production through cultivating on low land area and calculating the GDD at the end of the planting period. The results showed that Strawberry on low land experienced some difficulties to grow in optimal rate; up to the 10th week plant still did not reach the generative state uniformly and canopy coverage was below 20 percent.

Sorgum merupakan tanaman serealia yang memiliki potensi sebagai sumber karbohidrat dan bahan pang... more Sorgum merupakan tanaman serealia yang memiliki potensi sebagai sumber karbohidrat dan bahan pangan. Penyediaan benih bermutu merupakan upaya untuk mendukung diversifikasi pangan. Salah satu kriteria benih bermutu adalah benih yang tetap mempunyai viabilitas dan vigor yang tinggi setelah periode penyimpanan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk megetahui viabilitas benih dan vigor kecambah empat genotipe sorgum pasca penyimpanan 16 bulan pada kondisi suhu simpan ±26oC dan ±18oC. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua percobaan perlakuan tunggal tidak terstruktur dengan empat genotipe sorgum yaitu Super 1 (g1), P/F-5-193C (g2), GH 3 (g3), dan GH 10 (g4). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two storage periods [10 months (p1) and 12 months (p2)] and different sorghum varieties of Kawali (V1), Talaga Bodas (V2), Super-1 (V3), and Pahat (V4) on the physical quality and sorghum seed vigor. This experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Seeds and Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Lampung during November 2015 to November 2016. As main plot sorghum varieties (V) consisted of Numbu (v1), Super-1 (v2), Super-2 (v3), and Kawali (v4). As a subplot maturity consisted of 37 HSB (t1) and 45 HSB (t2). There was no significant different in seed number per plant, but Kawali produced seed weight per plant lower than three of the varieties. Also, there were significant different of four varieties, namely in variable of weight of 1000 seeds, seed hardness, seed length, seed width, seed thickness, and seed volume. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan perlakuan faktorial 2 faktor (2x6) dalam rancangan kelompok teracak sempurna, dengan 3 kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah suhu yang terdiri dari 2 taraf, yaitu 39oC dan 41oC. Faktor kedua adalah lama penderaan yang terdiri dari 6 taraf, yaitu 0 jam, 24 jam, 48 jam, 72 jam, 96 jam, dan 120 jam. Data dianalisis dengan analisis ragam dan diuji lanjut menggunakan Uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT) dengan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi suhu deraan dan lama penderaan dapat menurunkan viabilitas benih tomat ditunjukkan oleh variabel kecambah normal kuat, panjang akar primer, dan bobot kering kecambah normal, dengan kombinasi suhu 39oC dengan lama penderaan 24 jam atau suhu 41oC dengan lama penderaan 24 jam.

Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan perlakuan faktorial (3x4) dalam rancangan kelompok teracak lengkap (RKTL) dengan tiga ulangan, faktor pertama, yaitu konsentrasi etanol (0%, 3%, 6%, dan 9%) dan faktor kedua adalah lama waktu deraan (6, 12, dan 18 jam). This study aimed to compare the viability of soybean seeds due to the natural storage period and due to accelerated aging with ethanol. The lot of Argomulyo soybean seeds was divided into five subloties. Sublot-1 was the soybean seeds given a natural storage under temperature of ± 26 ºC for 12 months. Therefore, to study the impact of climate change on crops growth and production should begin with study the impact of air temperature on crops, so that the technique of making crops adapt to the climate change could be developed. Crops reaction on temperature change could be detected from the phenology and quantified with the Growing degree days (GDD). The objective of this research was to identify the impact of temperature change on strawberry phenology and production through cultivating on low land area and calculating the GDD at the end of the planting period. The results showed that Strawberry on low land experienced some difficulties to grow in optimal rate; up to the 10th week plant still did not reach the generative state uniformly and canopy coverage was below 20 percent.

Penyediaan benih bermutu merupakan upaya untuk mendukung diversifikasi pangan. Salah satu kriteria benih bermutu adalah benih yang tetap mempunyai viabilitas dan vigor yang tinggi setelah periode penyimpanan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk megetahui viabilitas benih dan vigor kecambah empat genotipe sorgum pasca penyimpanan 16 bulan pada kondisi suhu simpan ±26oC dan ±18oC. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua percobaan perlakuan tunggal tidak terstruktur dengan empat genotipe sorgum yaitu Super 1 (g1), P/F-5-193C (g2), GH 3 (g3), dan GH 10 (g4).
