This research aimed to investigate the influence of reading habit and writing motivation on stud... more This research aimed to investigate the influence of reading habit and writing motivation on students’ writing ability of the second-year students of Al Huda Vocational High School Pekanbaru. This research was a survey research and used multiple regression in analyzing the data. The subject of this research was the second-year students of Al Huda Vocational High School Pekanbaru that consisted of three majors: Accounting 26 male students, Secretary 22 female students, and Network Computer 16 students. The total sample was 64 students. The technique of sample collection was census sampling where all the population became the sample of the research. In the data collection, two instruments were used, they were a questionnaire and a test. The questionnaire was used to collect the data of the students’ reading habit and writing motivation, while the test was used to collect the data of the students’ writing ability. The data of this research were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment and multiple regressions by using SPSS v.20 to get the result of the research. The result of this research indicated that the students’ writing ability was categorized into “high”,, while the students’ writing motivation was categorized into“very well”, and the students’ writing ability was categorized into “weak.” From Pearson Product Moment result and multiple regression, there was an effect of reading habit toward the students’ writing ability, while there was an effect of writing motivation toward the students’ writing ability, and there was a significant influence of reading habit and writing motivation toward the students’ writing ability.

They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. These four skills become fundamental in mastering English. One of the important skills is writing. In writing English, people can tell everything. Writing skill also needs to use three other skills, reading, listening, and speaking to find the data about writing. Widdowson in Hernandani (2015:1) states that the aims of language teaching course are very often defined with reference to the four language skills: understanding speech, speaking, reading and writing. Furthermore, he argues that listening and reading are known as the productive skills. It means the language users require the ability to receive spoken and written language in listening and reading activity and the language users require the ability to produce language both spoken and written language in speaking and writing activity. Listening, reading, speaking and writing are related and integrated to each other.

Yet the expectation has not seemed to be realized. One of the dominant factors is the strategy of teaching reading comprehension. In this case, speed reading strategy is an appropriate strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension, because it involves the students to read the material faster and comprehend their reading. The purposes of this research were to find out students’ reading comprehension taught by speed reading strategy and without speed reading strategy
and to find out the significant effect of using speed reading strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension at the second year students of State senior high school 1 Dabo Singkep Regency of Lingga. The sample of this research is science major. This research was an experimental research, precisely a quasi experimental research. The design of this research was pre-test - post-test non-equivalent control group. There are four meetings in giving treatments. The instruments of this research were test and observation. The participants were the second year students of state senior high school 1 Dabo Singkep Regency of Lingga.
The research findings show that the improvement could be seen from the score of t-test. The total score of t-test is 3.41. Based on t-table, 2.01<3.41>2.68. Therefore, it could be concluded that there is a significant effect of using speed reading strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension at the second year students of state senior high school 1 Dabo Singkep Regency of Lingga.

Adapun responden penelitian ini sebnyak 26 orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan sensus sampling dimana semua mahasiswa Program Studi Keuangan dan Perbankan serta Akuntansi menjadi sample. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan instrument tes. Tes diberikan kepada mahasiswa untuk mengukur kosa kata dan kemampuan membaca. Analisis penelitian ini menggunakan program SPSS dalam menghitung hasil. Adapun hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah: Penguasaan kosakata mahasiswa sangat baik dan kemampuan membaca mahasiswa berada di kategori baik. Tetapi dari hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada korelasi antara penguasaan kosakata terhadap kemampuan membaca mahasiswa. Dari hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada factor lain yang mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca mahasiswa

In teaching and learning process, students should be able to understand the text, analyze the text and interpret the text. Students could improve their achievement when they understand the text. In some cases, students were difficult to understand the text, they also could not be able to find the meaning of the text and author’s idea. Based on this case, the purpose in this research was to investigate the correlation between students’ reading habit on their reading comprehension. This research used quantitative method. The design in this research was a correlational research. The subject in this research was the students in fifth semester at STIE Riau. The sample used cluster sampling. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data secara kuantitatif tentang pengaruh kebi... more Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data secara kuantitatif tentang pengaruh kebiasan membaca siswa di MTs Al Huda terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian quantitatif dan menggunakan Teknik penelitian survey. Dalam menganalisa data, formula yang di gunakan adalah regresi sederhana menggunakan software SPSS. Penelitian ini di lakukan pada siswa kelas VIII MTs Al Huda pekanbaru. Dimana sample penelitian berjumlah 30 orang di ambil menggunakan Teknik purposive sampling. Adapun hasil penelitian dapat di lihat bahwa kebiasaan membaca siswa tergolong pada kategori sangat tinggi. Selain itu, kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara berada pada kategori bagus. Pada intinya, kebiasaan membaca memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa.
