Method used in this research were pre-test and post-test control group design, which performed to two randomly-chosen classes over vocational schools in Kabupaten Bandung Barat, West Java, Indonesia. Samples were divided into two groups: experimental (BL-PBL method) and control (lecture method). Initial skill was determined by pre-test while learning outcome was determined using post-test. Data was analysed by t-test and two-way ANOVA with .05 significance level using IBM SPSS. Result showed that the initial skill of two groups was similar. After treatment, N-gain data uncovered a significant increase of representative skill in experimental group. While, twoway ANOVA test showed no interaction between learning model used and student grouping based on initial skill to representation skill. Finally, BL-PBL was proven to increase mathematical representation skill in vocational students and, hence, is suggested to be implemented in vocational high school.

Capital of one of the most populated states in the country, the city hosts major activities serving the region and beyond. Profiting from the earnings of gold mining and coffee production, local notables carried out the first major industrialization drive in the country. As a result, the city industrialized in the first decades of the 20th century on the basis of a significant number of large manufacturing quasi-Fordist plants and many middle-size and small industries. The extreme concentration of jobs, education and opportunities turned Medellín into the major migration magnet for the northwest region of Colombia. A growing process of land concentration largely related to the reorganization of farming around production for the market freed up a growing mass of peasants. Lastly, a civil war fought mostly in the countryside between the late 1940s and 1950s precipitated a large mass migration to the city while intensif...

This paper examines the interests and power structures behind those changes through the critical examination of the case of Medellin, Colombia, until recently a model of “good governance,” internationally acknowledged for its early millennium transformation from “murder capital to model city.” Based on extensive literature reviews and interviews, we unveil the forces underlying concrete governance practices. Major characteristics emerging from this perspective concern i) market hegemony, ii) the disempowerment of grass-roots movements and iii) the influence of illegal actors in the complex and shifting dynamics within and between the city's major players. The notion of both “good governance” and model practice are strongly revisited.

Drawing on existing literature, it examines their nature, dimensions, and methodological questions while, at the same time, advancing some proposals. Still in its infancy, the study of African American-Latino relations has profited from its white-African American counterpart. At the same time, it has reflected the shortcomings of that debate and construct, Forecasts estimate that minorities will constitute around 50 percent of the U.S. population in the year 2050 (McLeod, 1996). A large recent inflow of migrants from the Third World is already altering U.S. racial dynamics deeply Under these circumstances, the discussion assumes an increasing role and urgency in the construction of more desirable relations. The following is an attempt in that direction.
