There is currently a trend for massive construction projects, the result of which are megastructures that behave similarly to these natural elevations and create analogous turbulence conditions. Examples five mega projects were analyzed, and it was estimated that the Reynolds number variation in these buildings, is from 6.10 8 and 7.10 9 , for winds between 10 m/s and 50 m/s. In this work, the authors present a first numerical approach to this phenomenon by calculating the Strouhal numbers induced by winds blowing against large-volume bodies, in the range of high Reynolds numbers. For this study, satellite images depicting von Kármán cloud streets leeward of isolated islands were used. The methodology employed was based on a satellite image where streets watch von Kármán vortex, from NOAA-ARL (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-Air Resource Laboratory) prognosis was obtained for a grid point near the island, then determined the inversion layer and meteorological data (wind, temperature and pressure), was measured from the satellite image the distances separating the vortices to calculate the period, the Reynolds number and Strouhal. The studied results of the cases are displayed graphically, where it is possible to observe a data dispersion as well as a rising trend of the Strouhal number as the Reynolds number increases.

Since 2008, damage to civil structures caused by strong winds has been surveyed in Chaco and the neighbouring areas. Chaco is a province of NEA, the north-east region of the Argentina, which also includes the provinces of Formosa, Corrientes and Misiones. The strong wind events in NEA are related to severe convective storms. In this work, we present findings about wind-induced damage in NEA and the prevailing meteorological conditions. We emphasise seven particular cases for which the conditions of the atmosphere were reconstructed through reanalysis.

Was utilized a diagnostic model, that it satisfies the conservation of mass. A mesh is set up throughout the region of interest. It was used remote sensing data to obtain geophysical dates, in each point of the mesh. The atmospheric boundary layer information was obtained of atmospheric models. The calculations of the wind field are carried out with surface data and upper-wind data. In the map of the average velocity of the wind to 10 meters above ground level is observed velocities between 4.0 m/s and 5.0 m/s. The maximums (5.5 to 6.0 m/s) are located where the height exceeds 600 meters above sea level. In the field of the average wind velocity to 30 meters above ground level, the maximums have velocities over 6.5 m/s. Differences of 0.1 m/s (absolute value) are observed between the velocities measures and them calculated by the model. The wind d...

The assessment of wind action on tank structures is performed in this work by means of wind tunnel experiments to evaluate the pattern of pressure distribution for a tank which is shielded by another tank under various configurations and separation between them. The experimental results show significant changes in pressures due to shielding effects. In a second stage the structural response under the pressures previously evaluated is performed by finite element analysis using both linear bifurcation and geometrically nonlinear analysis. Results of two-tank interaction are compared with those of an isolated tank. Based on the results, it is concluded that the changes in wind pressures due to group effects induce changes in buckling loads and in the associated deflected patterns.

Wind and dust storms produce local troubles and discomfort. This paper describes climatological wind characteristics and a surface layer wind profile following a power-law profile approach for later wind tunnel studies. An adequate building plan could improve general life conditions. Statistical results concerning yearly and seasonal mean values were obtained. Two proper series of wind speed measurements were made and analyzed.
