Handloom industry has attained a high degree of perfection in our country. The industry has poten... more Handloom industry has attained a high degree of perfection in our country. The industry has potentialities and had a glorious past. This paper is aimed at studying the problems of handloom industry in Kanniyakumari District. The study found that ‘Lack of labour’ and ‘absenteeism of labours’ have been ranked first and second since it identified as the major problem with high mean scores. It suggests that weavers pay should be increased to eliminate the problems of lack of labours and absenteeism. The study concludes that Handloom sector has high potential to grow further, but it is a matured industry. Rapid adjustments and changes are not easily occurring in matured industries.

This paper is aimed at studying the level of satisfaction among handloom weavers by taking sample weavers from handloom zone of Kanniyakumari District. Study concluded that the government of India is liable to promote the industry. So, the government has announced many schemes and developed many policies to develop the sector.

The study has been undertaken to find out means to revive the traditional handloom industries. The study mainly depends upon primary as well as secondary data. Primary data has been collected from 80 respondents using interview schedule. The study found that poverty is the main reason for choosing weaving as their occupation. It is suggested that government should increase the benefits for the member of the handloom cooperative society to attract all weavers under its fold and it concludes that there is many experienced handloom weavers available in Kanniyakumari District.
