Two experiments are presented using OHSUMED, a subset of MEDLINE. Both experiments examine retrieval effectiveness of the translated queries. However, in the second experiment, the query translation procedure is augmented with digram based vocabulary normalization procedures. In this comparative study of retrieval effectiveness the measures used are: 11-point-average precision score (11-AvgP); average interpolated precision at recall of 0.1; and noninterpolated (i.e., exact) precision after 10 retrieved documents. Our results indicate that for Spanish the UMLS Metathesaurus based CLIR method appears equivalent to multilingual dictionary based approaches investigated in the current literature French yields less favorable results and our analysis suggests that linguistic differences may have caused the performance differences.

An ad-hoc questionnaire was constructed for the survey. A panel of seven experts extracted the contents. The Societies that involved were: ASAENES, ABBA, FEAFES-ANDALUCÍA, AMAFE, and AFAEM-5 advocacy societies were also involved. The questionnaire contained 12 questions about: knowledge of the diseases, diagnostic difficulties, symptoms, triggering factors, interference, treatments and effectiveness, beliefs and concerns. The questionnaire was administered during the IV Campaign of Social Awareness about Serious Mental Illness (Madrid and Seville, September-October 2009). A total of 5,473 questionnaires were collected, 55.8% in Seville. The majority (66.2%) of the sample were women, and the mean age was 35 years (SD=14.5). Both illnesses were known by 82% of the population, but 51% did not known any symptom of schizophrenia. Other notable opinions ...

The approach presented uses pure IR techniques (indexing of single word terms as well as word bigrams, and automatic retrieval feedback) to try to improve retrieval performance of queries with geographical references. The main purpose of this work is to identify the strengths and shortcomings of this approach so that it serves as a basis for future development of a geographical reference extraction system. We submitted four runs to the monolingual English task, two automatic runs and two manual runs, using the title and description fields of the topics. Our official results are above the median system (auto=0.2344 MAP, manual=0.2445 MAP). We also present an unofficial run that uses title description and narrative which shows a 10% improvement in results with respect to our baseline runs. Our manual runs were prepared by creating a Boolean query based on the topic description and manually adding terms from geographical resources available on the web. Although the average performance of the manual run is comparable to the automatic runs, a query by query analysis shows significant differences among individual queries. In general, we got significant improvements (more that 10% average precision) in 8 of the 25 queries. However, we also noticed that 5 queries in the manual runs perform significantly below the automatic runs.

Based on a survey and user interviews, a text-based FAQ system was created and compared with a chat bot that was developed to address library and information science (LIS) graduate student course and program related questions. The students conducted tasks with both the chat bot and FAQ systems. The usability and effectiveness of the functionality and user-interface of both systems is assessed.

These 32-electron complexes turned out to be quite stable and do not experience deprotonation, dehydrogenation or any rearrangement in the bonded alkyne even under heating. However, they react rapidly with CN t Bu at room temperature to give new isocyanide derivatives stepwise. Addition of one equivalent of CN t Bu leads to the monocarbonyl complexes [Mo 2 Cp 2 {l-g 2 :g 2 -HC 2 (p-tol)}(CO)(CN t Bu)(l-L 2 )]ðBAr 0 4 Þ 2 (L 2 = dppm, dmpm) resulting from substitution of one carbonyl ligand. Addition of a second equivalent of isocyanide on the dmpm cation replaces the remaining carbonyl to give the diisocyanide complex [Mo 2 Cp 2 {l-g 2 :g 2 -HC 2 (p-tol)}(CN t Bu) 2 (l-dmpm)]ðBAr 0 4 Þ 2 , while a large excess of ligand forces the incorporation of a third isocyanide molecule to the unsaturated metal centre, to give the electron-precise triisocyanide derivative [Mo 2 Cp 2 {l-g 2 :g 2 -HC 2 (ptol)}(CN t Bu) 3 (l-dmpm)]ðBAr 0 4 Þ 2 . The latter is a labile cation which dissociates isocyanide in solution at room temperature.
