This paper includes the investigation about the relation between social identity and clothing and... more This paper includes the investigation about the relation between social identity and clothing and also fashion. And this relationship has been taken into consideration over the visual expression because even during the ancient times, the cloths were the basic and simple way of representing the identity and social classes. The visible expression of identity over clothing from Ancient Egypt to today's clothing and fashion has been researched in this article. And the results have showed that every pieces of clothing from fabric to colouring have visual significations about social identity.

Metin olusturulurken literatur tarama yontemine basvurulmustur. Bu baglamda ulusal ve uluslararasi kaynaklardan literatur taramasi yapilmistir. Boylelikle tasarim odakli yaklasimlar hakkinda bilgiler toplanmis ve yaklasimlarin elestirilen noktalarina da deginilerek, farkli bakis acilarindan da konu ele alinmaya calisilmistir. Tasarimin kelime anlaminin ve iceriginin dar bir cerceveden ziyade genis bir perspektiften ele alinmasinin, tasarim odakli yaklasimlarin temelini algilayabilmek acisindan onemli oldugu dusunuldugunden metinde oncelikli olarak tasarim olgusu irdelenmistir. Bu arastirma makalesinde; tarih boyunca ortunme, barinma gibi temel yasamsal ihtiyaclara cevap veren tekstilin sanat nesnesine donusme sureci ve bu sanatin bicimsel degisimi incelenmistir. Ozellikle 20. yuzyilin ikinci yarisindan sonra yeni yaklasimlarla gelisen ve cagdaslasan sanat ortami tekstil sanatini da etkilemis ve onu geleneksel ifade bicimlerinin otesine tasimistir. Cagin getirdikleriyle iki boyutlu tapestrylerden uc boyutlu eserlere varan degisim, tekstil sanatcilarinin ozgun calismalarindan ornekler sunularak aciklanmistir.

Calismada ilk olarak moda illustrasyonunun kisa tarihcesine yer verilmis, ardindan Art Deco kavramindan, doneminden ve stil ozelliklerinden bahsedilmistir. Art Deco’nun etkin oldugu donem icerisinde yapilmis moda illustrasyonlarindan ornekler sunulmustur. Ayrica bu ornekleri yapan moda illustratorlerine de deginilmistir. Sanattan mimariye kadar genis bir yelpazede etkisi gozlemlenen bu akimin, moda illustrasyonu uzerinde de etkisinin olup olmadigi, verilen ornekler uzerinden saptanmaya calisilmistir.

Bu çalışmada ise tarih boyunca örtünme, barınma gibi temel yaşamsal ihtiyaçlara cevap veren tekstilin, sanat nesnesine dönüşme süreci ve bu sanatın biçimsel değişimi incelenmiştir. Özellikle 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından sonra yeni yaklaşımlarla gelişen sanatsal ifadeler, tekstil sanatını da etkilemiştir. Expectation of society and culture related to the biological structure of the individual carries some roles and this role also carries many gender stereotypes in it. But the individual can be use the clothing style to express his or her gender identity which may not match the expectations of the community and society. In the context of big role of the clothing, stereotypes could be deconstructed because clothes are the visible expression of gender identity of the person. And fashion is a big part of this structure because fashion is a pioneer of what people wear. Nowadays fashion has also mean about expressing identity independent of whether you were born male or female. Many fashion brands prepare their collections in the concept of 'gender fluid' by deconstructions. The representations of gender fluidity through fashion help bring a sense of normality to people who are trying to find the self-confidence to express who they want to be. And the results are showed that the numbers of collections about it are increasing and fashion sector takes this issue into consideration.

The similarity of the terms, gender and sex, suggests that these two concepts are the same. The elimination of this mistake and the transformation of the position into a conscious awareness are carried out with the awareness of social responsibility with contributions in different disciplines. At this point, an evaluation can be made on art and the social function of art can be mentioned because the art is an important way of communicating collective messages through the artists by their works.
