The first case was identified in July 1988 and later became epidemic and then concentrated epidemic among risk group for HIV. Several studies reflected that HIV is associated with many factors among which literacy rate and socioeconomic conditions hold the highest rank. Armed Police Force of Nepal are generally with less educational background and very few with higher educational status are at higher level. Thus knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS among this group needs to be assessed. Objectives: The overall objective of our study was to assess knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS among Armed Police Force in Banke, Nepal. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study with population size of 295 Armed Police Force was performed which covered the entire population of an Armed Police Force camp in Banke starting from 18 th June to 27 th July, 2018. A pretested questionnaire containing structural, semi-structural and open ended questions were made as data collection tool. All the soldiers in Armed Police Force camp were interviewed after receiving consent as an ethical clearance. Results: All 295 armed police forces of our study were aware about HIV/AIDS mainly via mass media (83%). One hundred and fifty eight respondents still did not know about availability of its treatment. Misconception about its complete cure and vaccination was seen in 23 (7.79%) and 61 (20.67%) respondents respectively. Two hundred and one respondents were found knowing about the free health services by government. 287 (97.28%) respondents knew certain things about prevention. Twenty four respondents admitted of having multiple sex partners and only 19 (79.16%) among them used preventive measure. Conclusion: Though all the respondents of our study had known about HIV/AIDS, still they had misconception regarding its treatment and prevention. Many respondents did not even know about the free health services of government. Few of them still do not use any preventive measure.

There is strong evidence that dental anxiety is associated with dental attendance; it has been reported that individuals with higher dental anxiety tend to visit the dentist irregularly, which in turn may lead to deterioration in oral health. Studies have demonstrated that dental anxiety is associated with poor self-reported and clinically assigned oral health, more decayed and missing teeth, fewer filled teeth and worse periodontal health. Dental students are the future dental doctors who will be dealing with fearful patients in future. Knowing the facts on dental anxiety will have positive impact while treating and dealing such patients. Objectives: The overall objectives of the study were to assess level of anxiety and its possible effect on prevalence of caries among dental students studying at Kathmandu medical college and Dental hospital.Specific: To access the level of anxiety among dental students of different years (from first year to final year) along it was further focused to analyse the level of anxiety among male and female dental students. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted to choose a random convenient sample. The data were collected from dental students of first year to final year studying at Kathmandu medical college dental hospital-KMCDH. A structured questionnairebased on modified dental anxiety scale was used to collect the data. Patients were examined for dental caries prevalence using decay, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index according to World Health Organisation guidelines. Results: The highest MDAS was seen among the younger batches and the mean values for MDAS declined with higher batch of dental students. The mean dental anxiety score for males was 8.9 and 15.5 for females. The difference was statistically significant the most fearful stimulus in dental clinic for both genders was local anesthetic injection, followed by drilling of teeth. Conclusion: Dental anxiety remains a significant problem for many patients of both gender and different age groups of examined students. Dental anxiety has a negative effect on oral health status by increasing the prevalence of decayed teeth. Further studies should be carried out using large random samples before generalizing this conclusion.

That's why Family planning is a strong matter of concern for most of the developing countries like Nepal. The first family planning service in Nepal was provided by Family Planning Association Nepal (FPAN) in 1959 to provide an Integrated Package of Essential Services (IPES) that includes comprehensive counselling; family planning and sexual health services; safe abortion services; HIV and AIDS and other sexually-transmitted infection (STI) services; gynaecological, prenatal, and post-natal care; and GBV care. Several studies reflect that increment in population is directly related to the level of education, low family income, and lack of awareness, strong cultural beliefs and many more. Especially, village areas of Nepal are deprived of Family Planning services and measures due to lack of coverage and other facilities. Thus knowledge regarding Family planning and contraception needs to be accessed and hence a village in Chisapani, Banke district of Nepal was chosen for this study. Objectives: The overall objectives of our study were to access the knowledge regarding Family planning, to access the practise of Contraceptive measures and to find out the contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) among community people of Chisapani village, Banke. Material and Method: A Cross-sectional descriptive study with population size of th nd 410 community people was performed in Chisapani, Banke; starting from 18 June to 2 September, 2018. A pre-tested questionnaire containing structural, semi-structural and open ended questions were made as data collection tool. All the people in this study were interviewed after receiving consent as an ethical clearance. Result: 393 out of 410 (i.e. 95.85%) people in our study have known about Family planning via Mass Media (75.82%). Only 70.48% people responded to have used any Contraceptive measure. Depo was found to be the most used measure (i.e. 54.87%). 42.43% people have heard about emergency contraceptive pills but only 20.68% among them have ever used it. Conclusion: Though 95.85% of the respondents of our study had known about Family Planning however only 70.48% people have been using any of the contraceptive measures. Emergency contraceptive pills were used by only 20.68% of the respondents.

Despite serious medico legal, ethical and political ramifications, there is paucity of published article on the subject, especially from Nepal. Objective : We aimed to explore the patterns of substance abuse among a sample of Medical students from Nepalgunj Medical College. Materials and Methods : A cross-sectional survey of medical students from Nepalgunj Medical College was done using a brief questionnaire schedule to identify current and lifetime use of tobacco, alcohol, cannabis and abuse of other drugs. An operational definition of substance abuse was made, 28 % of students fell within that criterion. Results : Male substance abusers 81% exceeded female abusers 19%. Substances most commonly abused were alcohol 60%, minor tranquilizers 48%, and tobacco 35%, and only 11% abused cannabis. While most students were multidrug users, there was a low frequency of daily drug use. A general lifetime (occasional use) prevalence of substance use of 56% was found. Drugs consumed on a daily basis were alcohol 2% and tobacco 6%. The prevalence of drug use was highest among the fourth and final year students. Conclusion : The majority of students were occasional abusers; there was no evidence of physical dependence. This study provides a snapshot of the problem of substance use among medical students of Nepal. Further research is needed to study nationwide patterns of substance use among medical students, and to identify important determinants and reinforce preventive measures. Strategies need to be developed for supporting students with a substance use problem.

Materials and Methods: Heart rate variability of 20 patients with type 2 diabetes was assessed. Resting electrocardiogram for the heart rate variability analysis at spontaneous respiration was recorded for 5 min in the supine position before and after 6 months of supervised aerobic training given three times per week. Results: In time domain measures, the square root of the mean of the sum of the squares of differences between adjacent R-R intervals (RMSSD; 29.7 [26-34.5] vs 46.4 [29.8-52.2] ms, P = 0.023) and the percentage of consecutive RR intervals that differ by more than 50 ms (pNN50; 10.7 [5.5-12.7] vs 26.1 [6.6-37.2]%, P = 0.025] were significantly increased after exercise. In frequency domain measures, low frequency (62.4 [59.1-79.2] vs 37 [31.3-43.3] nu, P = 0.003) and low frequency/high frequency (1.67 [1.44-3.8] vs 0.58 [0.46-0.59]%, P = 0.009) were significantly decreased, whereas high frequency (95 [67-149] vs 229 [98-427] ms 2 , P = 0.006) and high frequency (37.6 [20.8-40.9] vs 63 [56.7-68.7] normalized units, P = 0.003) were significantly increased after exercise. In a Poincar e plot, standard deviation perpendicular to the line of the Poincar e plot (SD1; 21.3 [18.5-24.8]-33.1 [21.5-37.2] ms, P = 0.027) was significantly increased after exercise. Conclusions: These data suggest that three times per week moderate intensity aerobic exercise for 6 months improves cardiac rhythm regulation as measured by heart rate variability in type 2 diabetic patients.

Medical students face comparatively higher frequencies of mental morbidities such as depression, anxiety, burnout, and also greater levels of psychological distress. The whole medical curriculum and this field of medicine require immense hard work, sleepless nights, a lot of compassion, and putting in service before self. The students entering medical colleges, who have just taken the first step in this never-ending journey of learning and service begin to experience a lot of challenges and overwhelmed and measurable syllabus, long years of gaining knowledge, and continuous pressure of being up to the mark as it may become a matter of someone’s life or death. Earlier, least discussed as a topic of concern, the mental health of medical professionals is now being talked about, however, enough data is still not available relating to the m...
