A systematic literature review led the first conceptual development and examples of practices from cultural heritage sectors were used in the theorizing process.FindingsThis paper depicts a digital model framework through a set of assumptions about how an organization creates and delivers value in an interconnected way by orchestrating new interactive processes, and providing experience propositions to customers, and about how value is framed in terms of economic, social and cultural outcomes.Originality/valueThe study contributes to the scientific debate by discussing the role of digital business models as enhancements more rather than ...

This chapter aims to analyze the impact of digital technologies on the customer engagement strate... more This chapter aims to analyze the impact of digital technologies on the customer engagement strategy, namely visitor engagement, proposed by cultural organizations. The analysis of customer engagement and digital technologies highlights the contribution of new forms of touchpoints and engagement strategies reached through interactive websites, new guide devices, mobile apps, and social media. In particular, the analysis of different case studies helps identify the different impacts of digital technologies along the customer journey, namely, digital engagement before, during, and after the visit. The visitor's engagement emerges not as a static process but as a dynamic constructed process performed by customers. It involves multiple touchpoints, both online and offline, and several activities and interactions that affect visitors' emotions and behaviours and experience. The visitor's journey is profoundly changed by what visitors discover while is on his/her journey, what the emotions lead to, what the insights the customers gain during social interactions-both online and offline-and even by the consequences of the activities the other visitors perform at the touchpoints.

Research paper thumbnail of Innovation in Sociomaterial Practices: The Case of IoE in The Healthcare Ecosystem

Handbook of Service Science, Volume II

Existing ways of doing, knowing, and connecting are changing, and new practices are emerging due to the IoE. Social and material reality fundamentally consists of practices which are produced and reproduced through everyday actions. Moving innovation into the practice realm means going from the outcome or objects to the very process—that is, innovating as a verb, in reference to the emergent process. The Healthcare ecosystem provides evidence on how humans and machines together compose complex adaptive service systems that affect and are affected by new sociomaterial practices. In such context innovating is framed as a texture of practices such that the set of practices rests on other practices performed by actors who integrate material and social resources (e.g., knowledge, tools, languages, artefacts) to improve service provision and actors’ well-being. Multiple sociomaterial connections across actions arise at the cross-points of actors’ interactions and resource integration, revealing a broader picture that can depict service innovation complexity more accurately.

In our study, we offer a more holistic, inclusive, both–and approach to the challenge of environmental innovation (EI) that uses a novel methodology to identify relevant configurations for firms engaging in a superior EI strategy. A conceptual framework is proposed that identifies six sets of driving characteristics of EI and two sets of beneficial outcomes, all inherently tensional. Our analysis utilizes a complementary rather than an oppositional point of view. A data set of 65 companies in the ICT value chain is analyzed via fuzzy-set comparative analysis (fsQCA) and a post-QCA procedure. The results reveal that achieving a superior EI strategy is possible in several scenarios. Specifically, after close examination, two main configuration groups emerge, referred to as technological environmental innovators and organiza...

The focus on the automotive market system is due to the need to “make space for concern” and to become reflexive about the emergent dark side of its practices. To account for the practices of actors, a discourse analysis is used for the examination of the linguistic elements associated with the construction of social phenomena. This paper addresses the dark side of market practices. Market practices that are performed through mistakes and misconduct exert adverse effects on actors in their value co-creation processes. This investigation of Dieselgate in the automotive market system offers three main contributions: (1) a set of adverse constructs; (2) an understanding of the roles that such adverse factors and controversies play in market practices and (3) a multiplicity of viewpoints, concerns and controversies.

Performativity is used as a central concept in illustrating how actors influence reality through their representations and their practices. In the investigation, Benefit corporations (hereafter B-corporations) serve as the context for empirical research. The work shows how ideas—the pre-constitute aspects of the ecosystem, such as values, norms and meaning—participate in shaping reality (i.e. the ecosystem) through the translation of such ideas into practice. The performative role of value propositions emerges as a bridge between actors’ values, aims, and practices in shaping a service ecosystem as well as increasing ecosystem viability.

Additionally, digital transformation drove changes in both businesses and society as a whole. Due to its relevance in recent studies and daily activities, we observed the innovation brought by digital transformation at the time of pandemic to understand the contribution it offered. Some of the solutions proposed worldwide were observed, leading to understand the role of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain – among others – in the fight against Covid-19. The analysis offers a perspective on the ways smart technologies enabled suitable outcomes in the activities performed by specialists, firms, and people either to counteract the further spreading of the pandemic or to take care of the patients affected by the virus. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Sw...

The focus is on the social connections occurring among a group of peers individuals, collectives, organisations, and institutionsintegrating a multitude of resources (tools, know-how, images, material objects), as well as the contexts in which knowledge production and sharing take specific forms for innovation to occur (Orlikowski, 2002; Dougherty, 2004, Swan et al. 2007). Within practice studies innovation and its link with learning and knowledge processes is only marginally debated. Most of the research on practice includes a focus on the learning and knowledge process, which is largely derived from the field of organisational and knowledge management studies. Less attention has been dedicated to the analysis of the social and complex aspects of the learning process i...
