The speech aims to present the results of the study carried out on some doge's burials made in Venice between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. These monuments are characterized by a great freedom of composition and design that allows them to represent the architectural environment in which they were built.
The choice of case studies tries to comprehend different aspects and authors of the period In particular had been chosen the burial of Andrea Vendramin at San Giovanni e Paolo of Tullio Lombardo, the tomb of Francesco Venier in San Salvador di Jacopo Sansovino and the double monument to Lorenzo and Girolamo Priuli in the same church of San Salvador.
The methodology to investigate into Venetian monuments is the same used for the Medici tombs in the New Sacristy of San Lorenzo (speech: Architettura delle sepolture nella Sacrestia Nuova. Concezione e Costruzione. Conference: Michelangelo. Arte - Materia - Lavoro at the Kunsthistorische Institut in Florence). It is based on the identification of the stereotomic model of stone construction.
Identifying the elements number, size, cutting and assembly plane of the stone allows the development of knowledge relating to construction practice, the use of
materials and the building site practice.
Michelangelo's work in the Sacrestia Nuova is the benchmark to which the Venetian case studies can be compared, in order to benefit from comparative research.
The peculiarity of the Venetian building world aside, the study reveals differences and affinities that can contribute to the debate on the construction and building of burial monuments of the period but also provide interesting insights for observations of a more theoretical nature.

The study of some sheets from the collection of the Vanvitellian Archive of Caserta is the starting point for a reflection involving some urban projects for the city of Lisbon, from the early eighteenth century to the Pombal reconstruction after the earthquake of 1755.
As Manuel da Maia himself, chief engineer of the reconstruction plan, states, the speed of execution and reconstruction of the city is partly due to the existence of a plan drawn up previously and not specified in greater detail.
The reading of the sheets of Caserta and the interweaving with the sources of the time allow us to reconstruct the image of this plan. The analysis of the project and the comparison with the built architecture have finally highlighted the close relationship between the two.
Caserta's drawings, not clearly attributed, had already been related to a view of the royal palaces of Lisbon drawn by Filippo Juvarra and painted by Gaspar van Wittel.
The analysis shows both the reconstruction of the architecture that Juvarra had designed for the new church and the palace of King João V, and its location in the urban context of the city.
The study allowed new reflections on the work of the architect from Messina and in particular the links that connect the project with that of Palazzo Madama, built the following year in Turin, emerged.
The intervention also tends to bring out the relationships that firmly link contemporary Lisbon to its historical past, the city arises from Juvarra's plan but also from some local and traditional experiences, a theme often little frequented because we tend to consider the center of Lisbon born from a tabula rasa, a reconstruction from scratch occurred on the ruins of the earthquake of 1755.
These themes are intertwined with Giulio Carlo Argan's concept of the capital city and its characteristics.
