Shalom! Welcome to the Jewish Book Club! This community, moderated by real_bethy, is intended to be a place where anyone, regardless of religion or personal creed, can discuss Jewish literature, films, authors, comic books, recipe books, jokes, and stuff like Torah, Talmud, etc. The focus here is on Jewish books, not the LJ-users. Sing along with us: "No drama, no drama...we don't want no drama!"

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Aretha Franklin and Jewish Book Club Demand It!

- Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Do be respectful of that; any abuse to from one poster to another will not be tolerated.

- All viewpoints are welcome, but flame posts will not be tolerated. If this happens, you will be removed from the community.

This is a place of open, respectful discussion - a community where everyone can benefit from learning from one another. Got a suggestion for someone/something to be added to the "Interests" section of the community? Contact real_bethy and she'll make it happen. Have fun!

None is poor save him that lacks knowledge. --The Talmud

Words are like bodies, and meanings like souls. --Ibn Ezra, Exodus 20:1

Last Month's Book Discussion: "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum

Our Current Book Discussion: "The Sabbath" by Abraham Joshua Heschel

Next Month's Book Discussion: "The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust" by Edith Hahn Beer

Interested in suggesting a book or article for us to discuss as a community? Excellent! Keep in mind the following rules:

- if your suggestion isn't selected this month, there is nothing saying it won't be selected the following month

- if your suggestion is selected, you must contribute to the discussion. Failure to do so may result in your following reading ideas not being considered for group discussion

- keep your picks narrowed down to works that are fairly easy for people to aquire through libraries as well as bookstores...some people (like me, for one!) can't afford to special order a giant hardcover book from Mars. If too many people can't get ahold of your book choice, we'll have to move to something else

- let's try and keep some variety in the book themes...i.e. everything we read shouldn't be about the Shoah (or Purim, or Superman, or Sandy Koufax, etc.)

- if no one suggests something, real_bethy will choose something

- have fun!
