A total of 100 children were included in the study, the study group consisted of 50 autistic children, and the control group consisted of 50 healthy children who visited the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, V S Dental College, Bangalore for a routine dental checkup. Salivary parameters like the flow rate, buffering capacity, and resting pH were measured using a saliva check buffer kit (GC co. Japan) and dental caries were recorded according to WHO criteria 1997. Salivary flow rate, buffering capacity, and resting pH were lower in autistic children when compared to that of healthy children and the results were statistically significant. There was a positive correlation between salivary parameters and dental caries. Increased incidence of dental caries in children with autism could be due to their behavioral characteristics and tendency to pouch food inside the mouth. In the present study reduced salivary flow rate, low buffering capacity, and reduced resting pH have been observed in autistic children, which could be the causative factors for the increased incidence of dental caries in these children.

In addition, a sustainable development (SD) challenge requires making decisions that call for a scientific process to make such a decision rational. Many researchers struggled with understanding the scientific process of achieving a sustainable development goal or/and any challenge that faces any sustainable development goals (SDGs). Therefore, the sustainable development research process in its nature is a puzzle that needs an intellectual interpretation and understanding. With these requirements of the process and to have a better understanding of the same, an indigenous riddle is presented in this study to unlock the mysteries in the sustainable development research process to arrive at a rational SDG or/and solve any SD challenges. The objectives include making readers: understand that the sustainable development research process is in stages/steps; know that one stage/step leads to the next one; know the components of each stage/step; and use the stages to formulate a research process that will solve a sustainable development challenge. The method involved using the different stages in the riddle (situation analysis) to explain what the process is all about. Findings from the riddle presented it as suitable to explain the sustainable development research process. It was concluded that the adoption of indigenous riddles will go a long way to explain the scientific research process in solving any of the sustainable development challenges. Omental infarction is one of the causes of abdominal pain that can be missed without imaging as its clinical features are similar to other causes of abdominal pain. Due to the rarity of omental infarction, some patients have no complete understanding of their disease and they need more explanation from their family physician. This article aims to mention the importance of post hospitalization follow up for omental infarction patients. Also, we are trying to draw the attention of emergency physicians about considering omental infarction as one of the causes of acute abdominal pain. Omental infarction can be treated conservatively or surgically with a success rate of 84.3% for conservative options. Young male with white cell counts greater than 12000 had a high rate of conservative management failure, but our patient was having WCC of 16000 at presentation and conservative treatment was successful for his condition.

A common complication noted to occur in the setting of meningitis is visual impairment. However, a lesser exposed aspect is the connection of meningitis with myopia. The objective of this systematic review is to analyze the potential association between meningitis with myopia and any underlying factors contributing to it. The literature was gathered from PubMed for this article review using conventional keywords and medical subject heading (Mesh) subheadings. Regular keywords were: Bacterial Meningitis and myopia. Mesh subheadings used were: meningitis, bacterial/complications, meningitis, bacterial/epidemiology, and myopia/etiology. Following the application of inclusion/exclusion criteria, a total of 6,483 publications were obtained. A lack of relevancy to the outcomes of interest led to the removal of 6,382 of these publications. Following this, a refined manual search was done with the remaining 101 articles. Finally, 22 publications were selected for review after the removal of duplicates. Myopia was linked to meningitis in a variety of these studies. On further review, the studies revealed that myopia occurred in the presence of meningitis sequelae such as vasculitis, vasospasm, and elevated intracranial pressure.

An arteriovenous brain malformation is a disorder where there is a tangle of abnormal blood vesse... more An arteriovenous brain malformation is a disorder where there is a tangle of abnormal blood vessels that connect arteries and veins. Proper functioning of blood vessels is vital to the brain's oxygenation but with a brain arteriovenous malformation  that disrupts oxygenating the brain. Arteriovenous malformations can occur anywhere, but they most commonly occur in the brain and spine. Once diagnosed, surgical treatment options are available to control and stop the disease, such as surgical resection, endovascular embolization, and stereotactic radiosurgery. The objective of this article is to determine the effectiveness of different treatment modalities for brain arteriovenous malformations in providing a seizurefree and neurological deficit free outcome in adult patients. An extensive literature search was conducted using PubMed and PubMed central as our main databases. The articles exploring the association and success rate between different treatment modalities and seizure and neurological-free outcomes were included. A total of 2066 studies were obtained by searching the databases, and after thorough screening, 29 studies were included for the review. This review highlights that microsurgery provides the best seizure control; however, if complete obliteration is achieved with stereotactic radiosurgery, then that offers the best control, and that is something that needs further investigation as there aren't as many studies on it. Moreover, we concluded that further investigations should be done on the combination therapy comprising embolization and stereotactic radiosurgery. It has great potential to provide a large percentage of the patients with this condition to achieve a seizure-free status.

Type Two Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), formerly known as adult-onset diabetes, is a disease caused by... more Type Two Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), formerly known as adult-onset diabetes, is a disease caused by impaired pancreatic insulin production and the ineffective use of insulin (insulin resistance) in the liver and periphery. It is believed that today, up to 5000 children are being diagnosed with Type Two Diabetes Mellitus per year, with the incidence of T2DM tripling between the ages of 10-14 and 15-18, especially among racial minorities. A high-yield symptom for those suffering from T2DM is weight gain, however, T2DM can also be linked to other co-morbidities including hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy. This is why the American Diabetes Association introduced bariatric surgery as a form of diabetic treatment in 2009. Since its approval, bariatric surgical procedures such as Gastric Banding (GB), Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB), Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD), and Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG) have elicited several positive results in adult patients. However, its use on children has been put into question due to safety concerns. For that reason, we searched databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Google Scholar to conduct a systematic review containing 34528 patients from 20 different studies to determine the effectiveness of bariatric surgery as a treatment option for obese pediatric patients with Type Two Diabetes Mellitus. For this systematic review, we only included patients <18 years of age with a BMI >35 along with papers that measured their patients' change in Body Mass Index (BMI), estimated weight loss (EWL), or total weight loss (TWL). Upon completion of the investigation, it was concluded that bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for obese adolescents with Type Two Diabetes Mellitus.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are very challenging health conditions.... more Diabetes mellitus (DM) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are very challenging health conditions. Although the relation between them is not completely understood, many factors contribute to this relation, including hyperinsulinemia, inflammatory reactions, and other co-modifiers as obesity. This study is designed to detect the role of metformin in preventing HCC in patients with DM compared to other anti-diabetic medications. We have screened the articles systemically in three databases such as PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), using specific keywords and Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms for related published articles. Moreover, we have used Google Scholar, International Diabetes Federation (IDF), and American Diabetes Association (ADA). We have applied our inclusion/ exclusion criteria, and we have also applied the quality check assessment using Cochrane bias assessment, AMSTAR checklist, SANRA checklist, and New-Castle Ottawa tool. In the end, we reviewed ten studies that were strictly reviewed and analyzed. Based on our study, we reported that the major factor in the development of HCC in patients with DM is the duration, especially more than ten years. We concluded that the risk of development of HCC is directly proportional to the longer duration of DM. Our results show that metformin plays an important role in preventing HCC in patients with DM by decreasing insulin resistance. In contrast, the use of Insulin and drugs that promote insulin secretion is associated with increased incidence of HCC.

In India, the fragmented and heavily under-sourced diversion of resources towards the COVID-19 Pandemic has heavily limited the workings of non-COVID-related health services. Several factors, including the suspension of transport facilities, the shutdown of private facilities, conversion of public-health facilities into COVID-19 treatment centers, and the diversion of medical professionals towards COVID-19 emergency-response have lengthened these restrictions. This has gendered implications for low-income women and girls. A lack of structured social security and healthcare-provision systems obligates these persons to assume the primary caretaker role in their households. Aims. This paper aims to outline the evidence for the lived experiences of low-income Indian women as they strive to balance their paid-work and unpaid-caretaker-obligations during the COVID-19 Pandemic. On a macro level, our work aims to assess the extent to which women's health, economic, and social empowerment can be achieved through existing programs and policies. Methods. Our findings were drawn from qualitative research conducted in urban and peri-urban regions of Jaipur and Lucknow. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining online surveys with semi-structured interviews and participatory exercises to generate high-quality data. All girls and young women selected for participation were between the ages of 15-24. Results. Interviewees described their caretaking experience as physically and emotionally depleting. As substitute providers of care, they felt unprepared and unfit to administer health procedures. Although many felt that they "needed" to earn some sort of income, their paid work options were few and poorly paid. As a result, most participants could only fulfill their domestic caretaking responsibilities in the most basic capacity. Analysis of participants' survey reports revealed that women had little knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences on their lives. Conclusions. The strengthening of social security measures is of the utmost importance. In the future, policy should take into consideration the costs of womens' caregiving responsibilities on themselves, their children, and their families. A gendered approach to the political economy must be adopted.

Stroke is a condition of quickly developing clinical signs of focal or global neurological disruption lasting for over twenty-four hours with no visible reason besides a vascular origin. Different risk factors are included for stroke development, like hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, and smoking. The current study was conducted to determine serum uric acid in acute ischemic stroke patients and evaluate its relationship with stroke severity. Method. An Analytical, Non-interventional Prospective study was conducted among 50 cases of acute ischemic stroke admitted in the medicine ward at Sadhana Kutir Hospital, Kim, India, over six months from August 2020 to January 2021. All patients who presented within twenty-four hours of the onset of stroke and who gave consent were included. Fifty normal healthy individuals are included as controls. Serum uric acid levels, along with other blood routine tests, were done. The GCS score measured stroke severity. Results. The mean age group in cases was 62.39±11.61 and in control was 60.18±14.72. In cases, mean blood uric acid was 5.41±1.26 and in control was 4.82±1.26; this difference was statistically significant at a p-value of 0.021. There was no correlation between the severity of stroke and serum uric acid levels. (p valve-0.2488). Conclusion. This study concludes that serum uric acid can be utilized as neurotic biomarkers in acute ischemic stroke patients. But stroke severity can not be predicted by its level.

It accounts for a large part of long-term disability and poor functional outcomes in patients with the disorder. The treatment options for the negative symptoms and cognitive deficits seen in schizophrenia continue to be limited despite recent psychopharmacology advancements. A functional abnormality in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of negative symptoms of schizophrenia, and non-invasive neurostimulation using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has been mooted as an add-on treatment option in the amelioration of negative symptoms in schizophrenia. This study aims to review the published studies regarding Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to alleviate the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. 52 relevant articles were found from PubMed and Google Scholar using the following Mesh terms' Schizophrenia', 'Negative symptoms of schizophrenia, 'Transcranial magnetic stimulation, and 'Treatment' and 35 relevant articles were selected after a thorough screening process. The available evidence indicates that transcranial magnetic stimulation has found a root in the treatment of conditions such as depression, migraine, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and anxiety. There have been indicators from trials that Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) could have a role in improving negative symptoms of schizophrenia, particularly when used as an adjunct to established pharmacological treatment. However, the current findings have been inconsistent with a relatively small sample size; hence larger multicenter studies may be required to prove the treatment significance before it becomes a mainstream and acceptable treatment option.
