kimonoworld - Profile (original) (raw)
on 24 September 2003 (#1346966)
This community is for all those who love kimono and want to share and discuss various aspects of kimono culture, including buying, wearing, colour coordinating, sizing, and fashion from Heian through contemporary, including fashion off-shoots that include kimono aspects, such as wa-loli.
Membership is still currently moderated to help reduce spam. I may try a month of un-moderated memberships in the future, once things are settled, as it may help the community grow and encourage involvement.
This community was originaly created by godgirl, and eleryth was made the new owner in August, 2011. In an effort to revive the community, she updated the guidelines.
Community Guidelines
Etiquette
- Discrimination or generalizations, of any kind (based on race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, ethnicity, weight, gender, etc.) will not be tolerated in this community.
- Respect other people and their opinions.
- If someone did not ask for comments and/or critique, either do not provide any or do so carefully and with tact.
Posting
Since we want to foster community, when you post or enter a discussion, visualize sharing with a group of kimono fans in someone’s living room, and use that to guide your behaviour. We know people want to get along and share their joy of kimono with others, and mean well, so we're just going to post these as a reminder, even though they are likely self-evident since you’re a mature bunch.
• Do not delete other people’s comments to your posts. If you feel comments are out of line, discuss it with a moderator. Likewise, do not post with comments disabled.
• If you cannot discuss an issue in a calm manner, do not respond to the comments.
• If drama erupts in a post, keep it in the comments (i.e. do not make a community post about it).
• All posts must involve kimono or kitsuke in some way. If in doubt, ask before you post, or put the content under an LJ cut. You may be asked to delete any off-topic posts.
• You can mention your journal or other community, but if it is mentioned repeatedly, it may come across as advertising and references to it may be deleted.
• Posts should have content, not just images with a line or two. Tell us more about the images/artwork (the 5W’s, how you picked the outfit, what your inspiration was, if you want C&C, etc).
Guidelines for Posting:
Images (photos, artwork)
• If you have multiple images, please post most of them under an LJ cut (1-3 images not under the cut should be okay).
• Please limit the size of images not under a cut to no more than 400 pixels on either side (400x400 or less). You can have larger versions under the cut. This applies to the main community post; images in comments do not have to follow these size rules.
• Provide references for the source of the image/artwork.
• Try not to hotlink and use an image host like photobucket instead.
• If sharing artwork, it MUST relate to kimono/kitsuke in some way. And please provide more than just “look at my art” – tell us what inspired you, what you used for reference, how it made you feel, how it relates to kitsuke, and your goal with the piece, etc.
Sales/Trade Posts
• Content must be related to kimono/kitsuke in some way. If in doubt, ask.
• Sales/Trades posts must be labelled as such in the title ([Sale]/[Trade]).
• You may have one image of the item pre-cut, but the rest of the images should be under an LJ cut.
• Post as much information about the items as you can (size, condition, cost, material, source, etc) and include a picture/pictures. Please share this information even if sharing a link to eBay.
• Payment methods accepted, shipping methods, region and cost MUST be specified.
• Sellers should endeavour to show verification of their reliability via feedback which is public eg e-bay or other selling/auction communities.
• Do not repeatedly post the same items if it does not sell right away. Please wait at least 4 weeks before posting it again, unless something has substantially changed (you have more items up for sale, decided to trade it instead of sell it, etc).
• All Sales/Trades are completed at your own risk. kimonoworld is not responsible for any issues with sales/trades and will not get involved if there are disagreements and is not responsible for any fallout or drama that may arise.
Vendor Reviews
If you are posting a negative review of a vendor, we recommend that you have the courtesy to notify the vendor of your experience and inform them you will be reviewing them negatively on the internet BEFORE you make your post. If you do not, we cannot guarantee it will not get back to them somehow. We will not be held accountable if that occurs and “kimonoworld” is not responsible for any fallout or drama that may arise from this. It is always a good practice to assume that anything posted online can and will get back to the person you have posted it about.
Book & Media Reviews
Book reviews must have author(s) & ISBN. If the title is in Japanese and you cannot enter Japanese text, an image of the cover would be nice and helpful. Movie/TV reviews should have the full title and language of film.
Please do not include more than 5 scans/images from the book or more than 5 screencaps from the movie/shows(we don’t want copyright issues) or large excerpts of text. Do not link to a download site to watch copyrighted content unless it's hosted by the owner.
Review content should include what’s good about it, what’s not-so-good, why it would appeal to a kimono lover, etc. You’ve likely all written a book report before, so just think about your target audience and go from there.
Tags
I’d like to make the tags useful in finding references and the like, so please make them informative but still general enough to be useful for others. A post can have multiple tags (this is encouraged, but please don’t go crazy). Going forward, I’ll try to help tag posts so that they follow some sort of guideline, but this is still under development.
Suggested tags can be found here. Not listed are all the different types of kimono; it's up to you if you want to have that mentioned (e.g. a post about coordination for a komon kimono might have the tags: coordination, komon, kimono, obi).
