[Tags**|slayers]Title:** Down The RoadFandom: SlayersPairing: Lina/Gourry.Warning: None.Summary: Lina begins to think about her future.Comments: Written for dqbunny. At times, Lina feels as though her life is a little boring. All right, maybe not boring - she doubts that anyone would call fighting monsters, blowing things up with magic, and saving the world on a regular basis boring. More like monotonous. Sure, beating up bandits and causing chaos is fun and all, but it eventually comes to a point where sprinting from the room and screaming “All right, let’s go!” turns into moaning into the pillow and “What? Not this again!” It’s not that she doesn’t enjoy her life - because she does. She wouldn’t be who she was today without all of those adventures, all of the people she’s met, the problems she’s faced. But she's begun to think of a different life; one that might be waiting here farther down the road. Perhaps, she thinks, a life with a real home, a husband, and - even though it's a little painful to think about - children. The real question, though, is who the lucky man will be. She can’t give herself away to just anyone; they would have to be deserving of such a rare beauty, of course. Someone with incredibly good looks, probably - lots of money, lots of good food - a prince, or maybe even a king, or -Gourry.The thought is in her head before she can even get out a word of protest. What a stupid idea, she thinks a moment later, laughter in her mouth - the faintest of blushes forming across her face. Marrying that jellyfish!? Why would she ever do something like that? He never understands anything she likes to talk about - always makes cracks about her body - has the mental capacity of a dead goldfish. Just the thought of spending the rest of her life with him; ugh, her skin is crawling as we speak. Well, she thinks not a second later - maybe that’s a bit harsh. He’s certainly a better choice than some of the men she could wind up with. And, although she hates to admit it, he does have a certain endearing quality about him. And he isn’t really that bad looking, either...“Hey, Lina!”She jolts from her thoughts, the firelight flooding her eyes. Gourry is standing there, holding up…something. Something that might have once been alive, she thinks with a grimace, watching as drops of blood tumble into the fire. “Lina, look! I caught something!” It’s some kind of bird; so thin and scrawny that there’s probably not even meat on it to for one good bite, and she’s about to groan and yell, Gourry, you’re such an idiot, go and get me something GOOD to eat!But then she sees his face, filled with the light of the fire - wearing a grin that reminds her a five year old with a bag of candy. He’s so proud, and it might be that it’s incredibly late, or that the bird’s nauseating smell is clouding her mind, or that all of these thoughts about marriage and family and children are making her soft - but for once, she doesn’t get mad , and just smiles in an unbearably uncharacteristic way. He eagerly fixes it up, and as she watches from a distance - watches how the light seems to linger along every curve of his face, how his smile almost seems to make the fire seem dull in comparison - she decides that maybe having Gourry for a husband wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe. |
