Gleichzeitig findet in Osteuropa eine Renaissance der Atomkraft statt. Rosatom, Russlands Staatsunternehmen für den Bau und Betrieb von Kernkraftwerken, ist dabei, ältere sowjetische Meiler auch außerhalb der GUS durch Neuentwicklungen zu ersetzen. Parallel wird der Reaktorexport massiv gefördert. Die Geschehnisse in Tschernobyl laden
dazu ein, das nukleare Erbe der Sowjetunion näher zu betrachten und über Russlands Rolle im postsowjetischen Raum zu reflektieren. Erinnern heißt, die Sicherheit von Atomkraft zu hinterfragen.

The book abandons simplified explanations of systemic rape in the army in its quest to avenge the fascist onslaught and introduces a more complete but also more complicated interpretation. She focuses on the soldiers of the Red Army, both male and female, and tries to answer the question of why this systemic sexual violence could occur.

Chernobyl, as a phenomenon and a term, represents a catastrophe - not just an accident or mishap.... more Chernobyl, as a phenomenon and a term, represents a catastrophe - not just an accident or mishap. It was not only the result of the wrongdoings of insufficiently trained operators, nor was it a generic failure of socialism in the USSR as comparable nuclear havocs all around the world prove. It was not a sudden, secluded and unexpected cataclysm as some people labelled it. Rather it was the inevitable result of a malevolent Technocratic Culture, which disregarded safety - only in the context of real-existing socialism.
