Macbeth is the one of Shakespeare plays that supernatural figures and elements take place at most. The mainstays of the play are developing events as a result of the prophecies of the witches, supernatural powers’ triggering human greed and as a result of this, deterioration, distortion and disorder occurring on the universal order. In this study, in which cases the harmony and balance of nature is impaired, what happens as a result of this deterioration and the perspectives of the people of Shakespeare’s era about the witches were examined with comments by famous critics.
“Is it possible to consider an author separately from the environment he lives or his own life?” ... more “Is it possible to consider an author separately from the environment he lives or his own life?” This question has been one of the most important questions debated by many critics for many years. With the progress and development of psychology, it is accepted fact that it is almost impossible to write a work completely abstracted from the life experiences and the social environment in which we interact. If the author that we are talking about is Edgar Allan Poe who is one the greatest poets who used the unfortunate circumstances of his life to write great works and experienced numerous difficulties and challenges in his forty year life, this question must examine thoroughly. This study reviews “Shadow — a Parable” in order to show how we can capture stunning clues about Poe’s life and the society he lived and also examine whether he was influenced the unfortunate circumstances of his life or not while he was writing this story.

Loanwords (can also be spelled loan words or loan-words) are words adobted by the speakers of one language from a different language. Borrowing is a consequence of cultural contact between two language communities. Loanwords can go in both directions between the two languages in contact, but often there is an asymmetry, that more words go from one side to the other. English language has gone through many periods in which large numbers of words from a particular language were borrowed. These periods coincide with times of major cultural contact between English speakers and those speaking other languages. The waves of borrowing during periods of especially strong cultural contacts are not sharply delimited, and can overlap. For example, the Norse influence on English began already in the 8th century and continued strongly well after the Norman Conquest. This study extendedly lists of Turkish loanwords which are used in English language.

Before starting study, the most important question in my mind was “how does bilingualism affect people?” I have made this study by reading many articles about bilingualism and talking a few bilinguals who live Trabzon. Bilingualism in children is positively related to classification, creativity, ability to thinking. They have more flexibility in thinking, greater sensitivity to language, and a better ear for listening. Research has shown positive effects of bilingualism on those linguistic abilities: early word segregation; sensitivity to language structure, control of language processing. Bilingual people can easily understand people from other countries and their cultures. Being bilingual has also been shown in the literature to have some advantages over being monolingual. Bilingual people also have advantages in education, due to cognitive development, and mental flexibility. The dominant belief at this time is that there is a superiority of different thinking abilities among bilinguals.
