Ladypolitik (original) (raw)
We need to make Hipster!Obama macros happen.
There is no excuse. We have a workable template, complete with Ray-Ban homage and incredulousness-riddled body language.
We need some clever captions, STAT. Having a hard time coming with any myself, but ( managed to play a little dress-up instead.Collapse )
I just want to draw the attention of nerdork,
notgarystu,
rauduskoivu and
missmary to Dat Hat™.
I would like this job very much—

12 Hipster Mermaid (aka Hipster Ariel) comedy icons!
February 19th, 2011
Has making fun of hipster-dom become as played-out as the posturing aspects of the subculture itself? Sometimes.
But there's something undeniably funny about the mash-up of hipster puns, and...Disney's The Little Mermaid.
12 icons in all: 6 static | 6 animated. Enjoy!

25 "James Van der Memes" animated icons (plain + text!)
January 7th, 2011
So, actor James Van der Beek (of Dawson's Creek fame) has always been aware of the Dawson Cry Face Meme, and -- BETTER STILL -- has taken the pun to a meta level with:
a meta/meme-tastic spin-off on Tumblr called "James Van der Memes".
Naturally, 25 icons in all: 16 textless | 09 with text. Enjoy!

08 simple Janelle Monáe icons.
July 31st, 2010
I had to make icons of what Im sure will remain one of my favorite artists of MY LIFE THUS FAR, AND FOR THE REST OF THE REMAINING TIME I HAVE ON EARTH.
I fell in love with Janelle Monáe and her EP album about a year and a half ago, and have equally fallen in love with her recently released first official major label album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III). Apparently the new album takes some getting used to for some people, but I recommend checking out her first one, Metropolis: Suite I.
There are no words that would do justice in describing or genre-fying her. Alternative-soul? Afro-punk? Rock? R&B? Orchestral Pop? I dont know. All of the above, and yet NOTHING like any of their traditional forms. Whatever the case, DO WANT.

HEARTS IN MY EYES.
( BUT WAIT, THERE'S [LIKE 8] MORECollapse )
There's about 30 (!!!) short YouTube video responses at the source. WATCH.
Also, check out some interesting sociological commentary on the ads at BitchMagazine.com (click) and Bust.com (click) [hat tip:
rawbery79]. They consider how the Old Spice line of ads have become guilty pleasures, the use of gender stereotypes, and whether or not they are used as tongue-in-cheek anti-stereotypes, along with whether it successfully and cleverly pushes a product.
My personal (serious) feeling on the sociological implications of the ad are as follows: I clearly do not feel bad for liking these ads, haha. I see them as an obvious and deliberately over-the-top caricaturization of gender stereotypes, even if it is, in the end, just to hawk a line of body wash.
Doesnt make me want to rush out and buy Old Spice for all the stinky men in my life. I just love the contribution to modern pop culture fads. It's like this era's "Where's The Beef?!". I approve.
