Diamoric is an emerging term.
Diamoric is a term that has recently emerged. Although the term may be growing in usage, and is significant and well-sourced enough to warrant inclusion on this wiki, it may still be relatively unknown outside of the platform or community where it originated. The exact definition and name may not have stabilized, and may change significantly as more people identify with it.

Diamoric[1]—also known as adonian, adonic, cypric, or dionysian [2]— is generally considered an umbrella term referring to the attractions experienced by non-binary individuals that cannot be described as "same gender" or "other gender",[3] "straight" or "gay".[4][5] As an identity word for non-binary people, it can be used to describe their sexual or romantic orientations, rather than being a specific orientation term of its own, or used to describe their relationships.[5] Some non-binary people use it to emphasize their own gender identity and their attractions or relationships with other non-binary people. For instance, someone who is genderfluid and bisexual might describe themselves as a diamoric bisexual. Diamoric can also describe relationships in which one or more of the partners is non-binary, including relationships where one of the members is binary.[3][5]

Etymology[]

The word diamoric is a neologism from the Greek prefix dia-, meaning "passing through, thoroughly, completely, or going apart from", and the Latin word amor, meaning "love". This combination is intended to mean "love that crosses through, goes apart from, or entirely encompasses the gender spectrum."[6]

"Diamoric" was created with a community process. It originated as "dionysian" on the social media website Tumblr in an "ask" post from the user jesse-mccree to Marlowe Lune on June 13, 2016.[4] After that term was criticized, a public channel was created on the chat platform Discord to discuss alternative vocabulary. Lune ran a Tumblr poll on July 5 to vote between two of the proposed alternatives: appelic and diamoric;[6] the results posted on July 14 stated that diamoric was the favored option.[1]

While the exact word for this concept was being debated, the proposed definition for that word was: "Love or attraction of any kind for, of, shared between or involving non binary people. This includes platonic, romantic, and/or sexual love and attraction. It includes any platonic, romantic or sexual feelings or relationships an NB person has, whether with other NB people or with binary people. This word is an equivalent to sapphic and achillean but further expanded to encompass any relationship or attraction which is neither same-gender nor 'opposite-gender' due to an NB person's involvement."[6]

Non-binary people loving non-binary people (NBLNB)[]

The enbian flag

Enbian has two meanings:

1. A non-binary person who is attracted to non-binary people,[7][8]
2. A relationship or attraction in which everyone involved is non-binary[8]

Non-binary people loving women (NBLW)[]

Terms proposed for non-binary people loving women (NBLW) include "orbisian" or "trixic", which have overlapping definitions.

• Orbisian: Proposed by the Tumblr user demisexual-yuri sometime in July 2017, with the definition given as: "any non-binary person who likes women, whether it's exclusively women or women and other genders. Orbis meaning 'circle' representing women. ONLY NON-BINARY PEOPLE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE THIS WORD. It's about celebrating non-binary people's love of women, which is an inherently queer (as in, non-straight) attraction due to being outside of the binary, and therefore NB exclusive." It was compared to the non-diamoric terms sapphic or women loving women (WLW).[9]

The trixic flag

• Trixic: Posted by the Tumblr user bigendering on July 20, 2017, with the definition given as: "used to describe a nonbinary person who is attracted to, interested in, or in a relationship with women/girls, exclusively or not. Trixic can also be used to describe relationships between nonbinary people and women/girls." It was developed on a Discord server to be a multisexual spectrum-inclusive term for non-binary people.[10]

Non-binary people loving men (NBLM)[]

Terms proposed for non-binary people loving men (NBLM) include "quadrisian" or "toric", which have overlapping definitions.

• Quadrisian: Proposed by the Tumblr user demisexual-yuri sometime in July 2017, with the definition given as: "any non-binary person who likes men, whether it's exclusively men or men and other genders. Quad meaning 'square' representing men. ONLY NON-BINARY PEOPLE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE THIS WORD. It's about celebrating non-binary people's love of men, which is an inherently queer (as in, non-straight) attraction due to being outside of the binary, and therefore NB exclusive." It was compared to the non-diamoric terms achillean or men loving men (MLM).[9]

The toric flag

Toric can also be used to describe relationships between nonbinary people and men/boys." It was developed on a Discord server to be a multisexual spectrum-inclusive term for non-binary people.[10]

Flag[]

Four flags were designed by the Tumblr user dionysiansuggestion. Each proposed flag had three stripes with a purple myrtle in the center of the white central stripe.[2]
