Library Services for Persons with Disabilities

How we’re responding to ADA Title II
Long-term efforts to improve accessibility include:
- Reviewing third-party vendor contracts to ensure accessibility language is included
- Evaluating Siteimprove reports for all of our websites, including LibGuides
- Continued training for staff and faculty

Access to Collections
Assistance retrieving items: If you need assistance in any of our library locations, please notify a Libraries staff member at any information desk. You may also email accessibility@lib.purdue.edu to ask for assistance with retrieval of materials from our collections.
Online request form: Print materials can be requested online, and the requester will receive an email when the items are ready to be picked up. For more information, see our video about how to request materials online.
Access to Buildings:
- Archives and Special Collections
- Located on the 4th floor of the Humanities, Social Science, & Education Library (HSSE) Library.
- Limited accessible parking is available in three spots near Stewart Center. Vehicles displaying a state-issued plate or placard may park near the west doors of Stewart, north of Stewart and west of Oval Drive, and near the loading dock (north end of building). Reserve “90” student permit holders may park north of Stewart Center and west of Oval Drive and at the west end of Stewart while Reserve “S” student permit holders can park near the electronic sign.
- From any of these areas, go to the west end of Stewart Center. Take the ramp leading to the automatic door, which opens onto the lobby. Cross the lobby to the next automatic door. This is the entrance to the library.
- An elevator is near the rear of the library on the right.
- Aviation & Transportation Technology Library
- Located in the Terminal Building. Enter through the automatic doors on the north side of the building. Library entrance is immediately to your right.
- Black Cultural Center Library
- The rear entrance on the north side of the building, on Russell St. near Griffin Residence Hall North is fully accessible with two accessible parking spots. The front entrance on Russell St. and Third St. has buttons to automatically open doors.
- Hicks Undergraduate Library
- From outdoor entrance: use electronic door entrances on the east and west sides of the building. Take the elevator down to the ground floor.
- From Stewart Center: take the elevator to the ground floor (G) and head west, following signage for Hicks Undergraduate Library/Undergrounds Cafe. At the half-level stairs, take the elevator from the ground floor of Stewart (S) to the ground floor of Hicks (H). Continue down the hall; the entrance to the library is around the corner.
- Front doors to the library are propped during regular staffed hours; see the library hours website for details.

- Library of Engineering & Science
- Located in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center. All entrances on the east and west sides of the building are accessible. Elevators are at the south end of the building. The library information desk is on the 2nd floor.
- Mathematical Sciences Library
- Enter the south tower of the Math Building to access the elevators. The library is on the 3rd floor.
- Roland G. Parrish Library of Management & Economics
- Located in the Krannert building, the library makes up the entire second floor. Electronic accessible entrances are located on the north, south, and west sides of the Krannert building. To access the library:
* through the south entrance, the elevators are located just ahead and to the right. Take elevator to the second floor.
* through the north entrance, turn right. The elevators are ahead, on the left. Take elevator to the second floor.
* through the west entrance, go down the hall, elevators are ahead and to the left. Take elevator to the second floor.
- Located in the Krannert building, the library makes up the entire second floor. Electronic accessible entrances are located on the north, south, and west sides of the Krannert building. To access the library:
- Student Center Library (Indianapolis)
- Located in the Student Center building. The entrance to the building is facing Indiana Avenue. The button for operating the automatic door is to the right of the door. As you enter into the lobby of the building, the elevator is to the left. The library is on the 2nd floor. Once you exit the elevator, the library is to the right.
- There is limited accessible parking available beside the building as you enter the parking area off Indiana Avenue. It requires an A parking permit and disability placard. First come, first served street parking is also available on Indiana Avenue, and it can be paid through the ParkMobile app.
- Veterinary Medical Library
- On the north side of the northwest corner of Lynn Hall, there is a ramp and an accessible door. Once inside the building, go left down the hallway, continuing in the same direction through the bricked lobby area. The library is located at the east end of the hallway.

Hathi Trust Digital Library – Accessibility
HathiTrust Digital Library is a partnership of academic and research institutions, of which Purdue Univesity is part, that offers a collection of millions of titles digitized from libraries around the world.
When you encounter a HathiTrust symbol in the bibliographic record of a book in the Libraries’ online search, this indicates it is also available in the HathiTrust digital library. The entire text may be available for download or access may be copyright restricted. Hathi Trust’s Help Documentation provides more information about using the Digital Library.
Eligible Purdue University students, faculty and staff whose disabilities do not allow them to use printed books can receive special lawful access to in-copyright materials in HathiTrust. Access includes all books held in the HathiTrust collection.
Students with disabilities who are registered with Diversity Resource Center (DRC) and faculty and staff who require an accommodation can request access by contacting accessibility@lib.purdue.edu.
