Second, come back here to the community info page, and click on the link at the top of the page that says "To join this community, click here".

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE BOTH OF THE ABOVE STEPS TO JOIN lose_the_weight, _YOU WILL BE DENIED MEMBERSHIP INTO THE COMMUNITY!!_Are you ready to make a commitment? Are you ready to be diligent? Are you ready to make sacrifices and change the way you think and the way you live? If you're not, you may want to reconsider joining this particular community.

I created this community for people who are significantly overweight and ready to take serious steps to change the way they look and feel forever. Share thoughts and feelings, talk about what is (or isn't) working for you, share recipes, whatever you want, as long as it relates to burning fat and getting fit.

lose_the_weight is different from other weight-loss communities in that it doesn't focus on just eating healthy and cutting calories, or just improving cardio strength, or just building muscle. I do my very best to incorporate all of these things into the goals of the community. Those who wish to join should be prepared to incorporate all of these things into their lives and work hard to get long-term, permanant results. To be in this community, you must be open to constructive criticism and you must be prepared to get real with yourself about what you need to do to acheive the results you want. I cannot stress this enough. It's about discipline. It's about commitment. It's about diligence and consistency.

The members of this community are opinionated. We rarely sugar-coat things... we tell it like we see it, and most of us tend to be be very blunt.

JUST A FEW EXAMPLES: *** If you come in to the community with a 50% attitude and give 50% effort, and then complain that you're only getting 50% results, we're gonna ask you, "What did you expect?!"** *** If you eat a bunch of junk food, don't exercise and then complain about gaining weight, we're gonna tell you, "Quit complaining! You gotta work at this if you want results!"** *** If you claim to be on the Atkins Diet or the South Beach Diet and you eat carbs daily and then try to justify it by saying that a little cheating is okay, we're gonna call you on it. (Explanation: Don't misrepresent the diet. A little cheating, a little mistake is okay, but "a little cheating" every day is not diligence. Be real with yourself about what you're doing to acheive your goals.)** This stuff may seem harsh, but it's real and it's honest. The members of this community have struggled with their weight for years, and they've watched the number on the scale fluctuate over and over again. Every member of lose_the_weight has reached the point where they've said, "I've had it. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to burn fat and get fit and be healthy." Every one of them makes me proud to be the moderator, and out of respect for them, I keep community expectations high. I had so many reasons for starting this community. Here are just a few of them:I'm tired of getting winded when I climb a flight of stairs. I'm tired of my thighs rubbing together. I'm tired of looking in the mirror not liking what I see. I'm tired of feeling fatigued by mid-afternoon. I'm tired of wishing I was sexier. I'm tired of wearing jeans and big t-shirts to hide my fat. I'm tired of turning down invitations to pool parties. I'm tired of being blue in the face after only 10 minutes of aerobics. I'm tired of my body aching from carrying all the extra weight around. And I'm really tired of people asking me when I'm due, since _I'm not pregnant._If you can relate to any of this, then lose_the_weight is the community for you.THE RULES: *** Once you've joined the community, please post an introduction and tell everyone a little bit about yourself so that we can get to know you.**

*** This community does not support the use of any illegal substances as an approach to weight loss. Posts about drug use will be deleted, without exception.**

*** We do not support starvation techniques or bingeing and purging. Posts that encourage this type of approach will be deleted. NEW MEMBERS: There are some entries that I, the moderator, have posted in the community, that many members have found very informative and helpful. One is about the kinds of food you should be eating. The second is an entry about how many calories you should be consuming a day. The third post is about exercise and modifying your workout according to your fitness level. They are long, but they are full of information. I am not a nutritionalist, or a doctor, or a dietician. These entries come from common sense, results of tons of research and my own personal opinion about eating healthy and exercising, and they seem to address a lot of the issues and questions that new members bring to the community. So, once you join the community, if you'd like to take the time, please read them. They are listed here, in the Community Memories.
