The corrosion behavior of 304 SS in 1 N HCl solutions containing different concentrations of N-be... more The corrosion behavior of 304 SS in 1 N HCl solutions containing different concentrations of N-benzyl – N1 - phenyl thiourea (BPTU) at different temperatures was investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique and weight loss method. The results obtained shows that BPTU is an efficient anodic inhibitor with efficiency of greater than 93% in the temperature range studied. The adsorption of this compound on the 304 SS surface was found to obey Temkins isotherm, and the inhibition was governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters deduced for the adsorption process reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of BPTU on the alloy steel surface.

The results obtained reveal that PHOH and PAOH are efficient cathodic inhibitors with greater than 96% of efficiency. The adsorption of the inhibitors on the composite surface was found to obey Temkins’ adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

The effect of Ethyl-2-phenyl-hydrozono-3-oxobutyrate (EPHO) on the corrosion inhibition of AA 606... more The effect of Ethyl-2-phenyl-hydrozono-3-oxobutyrate (EPHO) on the corrosion inhibition of AA 6061 in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid medium at 30, 40 and 50 ⁰C have been investigated using Tafel extrapolation and linear polarization techniques. It is evident from the results that EPHO is an efficient inhibitor with 91 % inhibition efficiency in the range of temperatures studied. Leftward and downward shifts in Tafel plots with the addition of the inhibitor, indicates that EPHO inhibits the corrosion process and acts as a cathodic inhibitor. With the increase in temperature, corrosion rate increases and inhibition efficiency decreases. Results obtained by both Tafel extrapolation and linear polarization techniques are in good agreement. The adsorption of EPHO on the surface of AA 6061 is found to obey Temkins’ adsorption isotherm that verifies the assumption of mono-layer adsorption on a uniform homogeneous composite surface with an interaction in the adsorption layer.

Inhibition is one of the mechanisms used for mitigating the metallic corrosion especially ill acid environment. A large number of organic heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulfur and oXlJgen have been used as corrosion inhibitors. Most of the organic compounds act as inhibitors by way of adsorption on the surface of the metal/alloy and illhibiting the anodic dissolution by the effect of blocking the active sites on the metal/alloy surface. In the present work an attempt has been made to study the inhibition effect of N - nephthyl-N' - phenyl thiourea (NPTU) on the corrosion behaviour of 6061 AI all(lYSiCp composite in 0.5 N hydrochloric acid medium IIsing potentio-static polarization technique. The study reveals that the inhibition efficiency (IE) of NPTU increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor lipto a critical concentration. The results obtained indicates that NPTU is an excellent cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of the compound on the 6061 AI alloy/SiCp composite surface is [ound to obey Temkeins' and LAngmuir adsorption isotherms and inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

In the present work an attempt has been made to study the inhibition effect of Ethyl (2E)-2-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)hydrazinylidene]-3-oxobutanoate (ECHO) on the corrosion behaviour of 15 vol.% 6061 Al alloy SiCp composite in 1 M hydrochloric acid medium using potentio-static polarization techniques and weight loss method. The study reveals that the inhibition efficiency (IE) of the compound increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor up to a critical concentration. The results obtained indicate that ECHO acts as an excellent cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of the compound on the 6061 Al alloy/Si Cp composite surface is found to obey Temkins′ adsorption isotherm and inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

Acid solutions are widely used for the removal of undesirable scale and rust in many industrial process. In such cases, the dissolution of metal/alloy can be controlled by addition of inhibitor. The inhibiting action of N - cyclohexyl – N′- phenyl thiourea (CPTU) on the corrosion behaviour of 304 SS in 1 N hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique at four different temperatures. The result obtained reveals that CPTU acts as an efficient anodic inhibitor for the corrosion of 304 SS. Good inhibition efficiency (>92%) was evident in the acidic solution and it was found to vary with temperature and concentration of the inhibitor. The adsorption of this compound on the 304 SS surface found to obey Temkeins’ adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption deduced reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of CPTU on the metal surface.

Glutathione is an eco-friendly water-soluble inhibitor. Polarization results reveal the cathodic inhibitor behavior of glutathione (Gt). The inhibition performance of Gt increases by increasing its concentration and lowering the medium temperature. The decrease in the corrosion current density and increase in inhibition efficiency on increasing Gt concentration reveal the attenuation of composite corrosion. Experimental results indicate the mixed adsorption with predominantly physisorption of Gt molecules adsorption on the composite surface following Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The impedance measurements indicate the rise in polarization resistance with an increase in Gt concentration, showing the control of composite corrosion. The inhibitive action of 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) on the corrosion of AA6061-T6 was evaluated i... more The inhibitive action of 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) on the corrosion of AA6061-T6 was evaluated in 0.5 M HCl by electrochemical techniques. The electrochemical results were validated by theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). ABT showed a mixed inhibitor behaviour with 71–90% inhibition efficiency in the 1 × 10−4 to 1 × 10−3 M concentration range and at 303 to 323 K temperature. The inhibition power of ABT increases with its concentration and rise in the temperature of the medium. The polarization results showed a reduction in corrosion rate and improvement in inhibition performance on increasing ABT concentrations, which reveal the ABT's adsorption on the alloy. The evaluation of kinetic and thermodynamic results revealed that ABT inhibits the AA6061-T6 corrosion by mixed adsorption, following the Langmuir isotherm model. Inhibition is one of the mechanisms used for mitigating the metallic corrosion especially ill acid environment. A large number of organic heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulfur and oXlJgen have been used as corrosion inhibitors. Most of the organic compounds act as inhibitors by way of adsorption on the surface of the metal/alloy and illhibiting the anodic dissolution by the effect of blocking the active sites on the metal/alloy surface. In the present work an attempt has been made to study the inhibition effect of N - nephthyl-N' - phenyl thiourea (NPTU) on the corrosion behaviour of 6061 AI all(lYSiCp composite in 0.5 N hydrochloric acid medium IIsing potentio-static polarization technique. The study reveals that the inhibition efficiency (IE) of NPTU increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor lipto a critical concentration. The results obtained indicates that NPTU is an excellent cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of the compound on the 6061 AI alloy/SiCp composite surface is [ound to obey Temkeins' and LAngmuir adsorption isotherms and inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

A large number of organic heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen have been used as corrosion inhibitors.In the present work an attempt has been made to study the inhibition effect of 5-[(2- methylphenoxy)methyl]-4-{[(1E)-(3-phenyl-1Hpyrazol-4-yl)methylene]amino}-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (MMATT) on the corrosion behavior of 15 vol.% 6061 Al alloy/ SiCp composite in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid medium using potentio-static polarization techniques and weight loss method. The study reveals that the inhibition efficiency (IE) of the compound increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor up to a critical concentration. The results obtained indicate that MMATT is an excellent cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of the compound on the 6061 Al alloy/SiCp composite surface is found to obey Temkins′ adsorption isotherm and inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

In the present work an attempt has been made to study the inhibition effect of Ethyl (2E)-2-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)hydrazinylidene]-3-oxobutanoate (ECHO) on the corrosion behaviour of 15 vol.% 6061 Al alloy SiCp composite in 1 M hydrochloric acid medium using potentio-static polarization techniques and weight loss method. The study reveals that the inhibition efficiency (IE) of the compound increases with increase in concentration of the inhibitor up to a critical concentration. The results obtained indicate that ECHO acts as an excellent cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of the compound on the 6061 Al alloy/Si Cp composite surface is found to obey Temkins′ adsorption isotherm and inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

The results obtained reveal that FPTU is an efficient mixed inhibitor with greater than 90 % of efficiency in the range of temperature studied. The inhibitor functions through adsorption following Temkeins adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters deduced for the adsorption process reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of the compound on the alloy steel surface.

The results obtained reveal that FPTU performs excellently as anodic inhibitor (IE> 93%) for 304 SS in HCl solution. The inhibitor functions through adsorption following Temkin’s adsorption isotherm, and the inhibition was governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters deduced for the adsorption process reveal spontaneous adsorption of the compound on the alloy steel surface.

Acid solutions are widely used for the removal of undesirable scale and rust in many industrial process. In such cases, the dissolution of metal/alloy can be controlled by addition of inhibitor. The inhibiting action of N - cyclohexyl – N′- phenyl thiourea (CPTU) on the corrosion behaviour of 304 SS in 1 N hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique at four different temperatures. The result obtained reveals that CPTU acts as an efficient anodic inhibitor for the corrosion of 304 SS. Good inhibition efficiency (>92%) was evident in the acidic solution and it was found to vary with temperature and concentration of the inhibitor. The adsorption of this compound on the 304 SS surface found to obey Temkeins’ adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption deduced reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of CPTU on the metal surface.

The results obtained reveal that PHOH and PAOH are efficient cathodic inhibitors with greater than 96% of efficiency. The adsorption of the inhibitors on the composite surface was found to obey Temkins’ adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.

Glutathione is an eco-friendly water-soluble inhibitor. Polarization results reveal the cathodic inhibitor behavior of glutathione (Gt). The inhibition performance of Gt increases by increasing its concentration and lowering the medium temperature. The decrease in the corrosion current density and increase in inhibition efficiency on increasing Gt concentration reveal the attenuation of composite corrosion. Experimental results indicate the mixed adsorption with predominantly physisorption of Gt molecules adsorption on the composite surface following Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The impedance measurements indicate the rise in polarization resistance with an increase in Gt concentration, showing the control of composite corrosion. The inhibitive action of 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) on the corrosion of AA6061-T6 was evaluated i... more The inhibitive action of 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) on the corrosion of AA6061-T6 was evaluated in 0.5 M HCl by electrochemical techniques. The electrochemical results were validated by theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). ABT showed a mixed inhibitor behaviour with 71–90% inhibition efficiency in the 1 × 10−4 to 1 × 10−3 M concentration range and at 303 to 323 K temperature. The inhibition power of ABT increases with its concentration and rise in the temperature of the medium. The polarization results showed a reduction in corrosion rate and improvement in inhibition performance on increasing ABT concentrations, which reveal the ABT's adsorption on the alloy. The evaluation of kinetic and thermodynamic results revealed that ABT inhibits the AA6061-T6 corrosion by mixed adsorption, following the Langmuir isotherm model.
