The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic shows that schools must adapt new approaches in order to cont... more The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic shows that schools must adapt new approaches in order to continue to provide teaching and learning at schools. To achieve this, students must be equipped to learn in a multifaceted, multitasking, and technology-driven world, and the utilization of web 2.0 tools has been revealed as important in this endeavor. The aim of this study is to introduce an educational website enriched with web 2.0 tools designed for science teaching and in addition, to show the effect on achievement and motivation. Therefore, the effect of an educational website supported by web 2.0 tools on achievement and motivation was investigated in a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The unit of “Force and Energy” was presented through an educational website enriched by Web 2.0 tools. The positive effects of using the website on the achievement and motivation of the students in the results brought to mind the use of an educational website supported by web 2.0 tools as an alternative or support to online training during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Purpose: This research aims at analyzing graduate theses and articles made on gifted individual i... more Purpose: This research aims at analyzing graduate theses and articles made on gifted individual in science education in Turkey through content analysis. Design/Methodology/Approach: In the research, 16 theses (10 master's and six PhD theses) and 37 articles made between January 2018 and July 2020 were analyzed with content analysis. The studies were accessed from The Council of Higher Education National Thesis Center and Google Academic database. Findings: In the studies in which content analysis made, current issues were determined as STEM education, curriculum studies, and teaching material development. In most of the studies, qualitative research method was used and "case study" among qualitative research and "survey" among quantitative research models were frequently used. A limited number of experimental researches have shown that learning approaches such as STEM Education, Brain Based Learning, Differentiated Teaching, Argumentation Based Learning, Project Based Learning, Computer Based Learning have positive results on self-regulated learning strategies, attitude towards science, scientific process skills, problem solving skills, creativity and critical thinking skills. Highlights: It has been concluded that more experimental studies with different variables are needed on science education in gifted. Making studies on entrepreneurial skills, use of technology and different education levels are recommended.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of an online science course on the academic achievemen... more This study aimed to investigate the effect of an online science course on the academic achievement of a fifth grade "World of Living" unit, which was carried out using the materials created with web 2.0 tools, as well as to determine the students' opinions about the application. This study consisted of a total of 120 fifth grade students studying in state schools in Istanbul during the academic year of 2020-2021. In determining the study group, purposeful sampling methods were used. In the experimental group (n = 60), the course was taught with web 2.0 supported materials; in the control group (n = 60), instruction was made by adhering to the activities in the textbook. The research was carried out by making use of mixed method research. A quantitative quasi-experimental model with pre-and post-test control groups was used. In the qualitative dimension, opinions were obtained from the students after the application. In the study, semi-structured interview form and academic achievement test prepared for the unit of the world of living things were used as data collection tools. While the data obtained from the students to the achievement test before and after the application was transferred to a statistical package program and analyzed; the data obtained from the interview form were analyzed using content analysis. When the post-test academic achievement score data obtained from the students were compared as a result of the study, it was found that there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group. In addition, result from the interviews, revealed that students found science teaching with web-supported materials fun and enjoyable and that they wanted these to be used in science lessons. As a result of this study, it is recommended that web 2.0 tools be used by educators in science education.
Purpose-This research determined the effect of using Web 2.0 tools in online science courses prep... more Purpose-This research determined the effect of using Web 2.0 tools in online science courses prepared according to the 5E model on student achievement and digital literacy. Methods-For this purpose, the research used the explanatory sequential design. The qualitative dimension of the study were used semi-structured interviews. The research participants consisted of 40 fifth-grade students studying at a private school in Istanbul in the 2020-2021 academic years. In the study, quantitative data collected via academic achievement test and digital literacy scale, while qualitative data obtained from interview and observation forms. The achievement test and the digital literacy scale administered via Google Forms and the observations and interviews carried out online via the Microsoft Teams application. While quantitative data were analysed with a package program, qualitative data were analysed with descriptive analysis. Findings-The study found a significant difference between the academic achievement test points of the students in the experimental group. There was no significant difference found between the academic achievement test points of the students in the control group. There is no significant difference between the points obtained from the digital literacy scale applied to the students in the experimental and control groups. As a conclusion, the interviews with three students in the experimental group found that the science lessons taught with Web 2.0 tools were more interesting and catchy. As a conclusion of the observations made in the experimental group, students showed a positive tendency towards science lessons with Web 2.0 tools. To summarise, that the observations supported the interview results. Significance-The study is important in terms of providing an example for teachers' use of Web 2.0 tools and making significant contributions to the field of science education because it supports online learning, which is carried out frequently due to unusual conditions today.

For this reason, two-hour teachings of 13 pre-service science teachers from Marmara University Ataturk Education Faculty have been pursued by being recorded to video tape. These 13 pre-service science teachers who go to different primary schools made their teachings without effect of researcher during their first teachings. Bu araştırmada 5E modeline uygun araştırma-sorgulamaya dayalı etkinliklerin 5. sınıf öğrencilerin... more Bu araştırmada 5E modeline uygun araştırma-sorgulamaya dayalı etkinliklerin 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin çevre ile ilgili tutum ve davranışlarına etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yarı deneysel araştırma modellerinden ön test-son test kontrol gruplu model kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu 24'ü deney, 23'ü kontrol grubu olmak üzere 47 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Deney grubunda araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan 5E modeline uygun araştırma-sorgulamaya dayalı etkinlikler 4 hafta süresince uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel verileri tutum anketinden, nitel verileri ise açık uçlu sorular, görüşme ve doküman inceleme çalışmalarından sağlanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre deney grubunda yapılan uygulamaların çevreye karşı tutumlarında anlamlı bir artışa neden olduğu, fakat kontrol grubuyla karşılaştırıldığında farkın anlamlı olmadığı görülmüştür. Çevreye yönelik davranışın incelendiği açık uçlu sorular, görüşme ve günlüklerden elde edilen verilerde ise deney grubu öğrencilerinin olumlu davranışlarında artışlar olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle ilköğretim seviyesinde Fen Bilgisi dersi içindeki biyoloji bölümlerinin t... more Bu çalışmada, öncelikle ilköğretim seviyesinde Fen Bilgisi dersi içindeki biyoloji bölümlerinin tespiti yapılarak biyoloji içeriğinin Cumhuriyet'in kuruluşundan bu yana nasıl geliştirildiği ve şekillendiğini ortaya çıkarmak hedeflenmiştir. Türk eğitim sisteminde Cumhuriyet' in kuruluşundan bu yana uygulamaya konulan programlar, biyoloji alanı üzerinden incelenerek, meydana gelen dönüşümler, gelişmeler ve hatalar tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Ders programlarının içerik tespitinin ardından genel olarak fen programlarında zamanla birlikte olumlu gelişmelerin gerçekleştiği söylenebilir, biyoloji içeriğinin aşamalı olarak, özellikle de yüzyılın sonuna doğru, dünya standartlarına ulaşmayı başardığı ve çağdaş dünyanın teknolojik ve iletişimsel gerekleriyle uyumlu hale geldiği görülmektedir.

A quasi-experimental design was adopted and qualitative analyses were used. It was seen at the end of the study that the knowledge levels of the experimental group students were more developed than the knowledge level of the control group students and that the students developed positive view on the scientific argumentation.

* Sorumlu yazar ÖZ Araştırmada robotik, kodlama ve elektronik ile ilgili okulda yapılan ders dışı... more * Sorumlu yazar ÖZ Araştırmada robotik, kodlama ve elektronik ile ilgili okulda yapılan ders dışı uygulamaların tespit edilmesi ve robotik, kodlama ve elektronik uygulamalarla ilgili çeşitli konularda öğretmen görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırma kapsamında veriler çevrimiçi bir görüşme formu yardımıyla İstanbul ili Avcılar ilçesinde bulunan 52 devlet okulundan öğretmen veya idareciler aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen verilerin incelenmesi için nitel veri analiz yöntemlerinden olan betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar; mevcut durum tespiti, okulların ihtiyaç durumları, okulların gelecek planları ve robotik-kodlama ve elektronik uygulamalarının eğitime olan katkısı çerçevesinde analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına bakıldığında, okulların robotik, kodlama ve elektronik uygulamaları formal eğitim kapsamında değil daha çok ders dışı aktiviteler şeklinde gerçekleştirdikleri ve son iki yılda buna ağırlık verdikleri ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Ayrıca, öğretmenler, bu tip uygulamaların, öğrencilerin üst düzey becerilerini geliştirdiği ve okula karşı ilgiyi ve farkındalığı artırdığı yönünde görüş belirtmişlerdir.

Bilimi ve bilimsel olmayandan ayırt edebilmek için bilimin ne olduğu ve özelliklerinin neler olduğu konusu uzun yıllar araştırmacıların temel araştırma konularını oluşturmuştur. Pena ve Paco‘ya göre (2004) bilimi bilmek basitçe bilimsel gerçekleri bilmek demek değil, bilimin doğasını, bilimsel kanıtın özelliklerini, uygun deneyler yapmayı, olasılıkları değerlendirmeyi, teoriler geliştirmeyi ve bilimsel araştırmanın diğer unsurlarını anlamak demektir. Turgut (2009) ise bilimin doğasını bilmenin sözde bilimsel iddiaların farkına varılmasını ve bilimin ve sözde bilimin ayrılabileceğini belirtmiştir. The aim of this study is the examination of the effect of the science activities based upon socio... more The aim of this study is the examination of the effect of the science activities based upon socio-scientific argumentation on the development of the renewable energy content knowledge of 8 th grade students, and the students' opinions on the scientific argumentation. A quasi-experimental design was adopted and qualitative analyses were used. It was seen at the end of the study that the knowledge levels of the experimental group students were more developed than the knowledge level of the control group students and that the students developed positive view on the scientific argumentation.
Robotik, Kodlama ve Elektronik ile İlgili Yapılan Ders Dışı Uygulama Durumlarının Tespit Edilmesi İle İlgili Öğretmen Görüşleri, 2020
* Sorumlu yazar ÖZ Araştırmada robotik, kodlama ve elektronik ile ilgili okulda yapılan ders dışı... more * Sorumlu yazar ÖZ Araştırmada robotik, kodlama ve elektronik ile ilgili okulda yapılan ders dışı uygulamaların tespit edilmesi ve robotik, kodlama ve elektronik uygulamalarla ilgili çeşitli konularda öğretmen görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırma kapsamında veriler çevrimiçi bir görüşme formu yardımıyla İstanbul ili Avcılar ilçesinde bulunan 52 devlet okulundan öğretmen veya idareciler aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen verilerin incelenmesi için nitel veri analiz yöntemlerinden olan betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar; mevcut durum tespiti, okulların ihtiyaç durumları, okulların gelecek planları ve robotik-kodlama ve elektronik uygulamalarının eğitime olan katkısı çerçevesinde analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına bakıldığında, okulların robotik, kodlama ve elektronik uygulamaları formal eğitim kapsamında değil daha çok ders dışı aktiviteler şeklinde gerçekleştirdikleri ve son iki yılda buna ağırlık verdikleri ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Ayrıca, öğretmenler, bu tip uygulamaların, öğrencilerin üst düzey becerilerini geliştirdiği ve okula karşı ilgiyi ve farkındalığı artırdığı yönünde görüş belirtmişlerdir.
