Mechanical Rabbits: Sawyer and Sayid (Lost Doujin)

Mechanical Rabbits
A Lost doujinshi featuring Sawyer and Sayid
Lost series comic sawyer sayid slash fan fanwork fanart fanfic fanfiction

Introduction

"'Doujinshi' roughly translates [from Japanese] into 'same stuff, different people.' These are unofficial, amateur produced manga based upon successful, well established manga or anime series. ..."

Mechanical Rabbits is a doujinshi brought to you by adifferentdrum and bastardized, fans of JJ Abram's latest television brainchild, Lost. Currently, the doujinshi itself is projected to be Rated R for sexual content (between Sawyer and Sayid) and bad words, 30 pages long, spoiler-heavy for season 1 of Lost. We are still comparing print options and costs (input is appreciated). The doujinshi is still in production stages, approximately 50% complete.

This Livejournal was created for general interest purposes and will be updated with comic previews, projected deadlines, print-copy sales information, and other news. You are welcome to ask questions, give feedback, and add or watch this journal.

About the Doujinshi

In 2004, bastardized was first inspired by Sawyer and Sayid graphics created by the inimitable indilime (whose feelings about this whole thing are still unknown due to her having -- frankly -- far better things to do than respond to Livejournal comments). Thus galvanized, Bchan sat down and wrote several thousand words -- which mysteriously survived deletion, despite having crashed into the most awful pitfalls ever visited upon fanfiction: an ostentatious storyline with no actual plot, 2 flashbacks (complete with faggy little strings of asterisks to divide the paragraphs), a jarringly un-_Lost_-like atmosphere, three hundred unnecessary literary devices, passive grammar, verbing, and enough imagistic prose to choke a Tolkienese elf.

All of this and buttsex.

A few readers and a week later, adifferentdrum began to draw an utterly gorgeous graphic novellization, thus redeeming his friend and her story from a sincerely terrible place.

If you enjoy Lost: the Series, if you appreciate good line-weighting and stylized art, if you subscribe to raging cynicism without losing your ear for irony or your eye for Nature's splendors, if you are neither xenophobic nor homophobic and find the courage in the face of fatalism, then you're probably overqualified. You might also like this doujinshi.

Note: There is no political activism or anger involved in the making of this doujinshi. It is entertainment and good art.

Copyright

This doujinshi was created by the fans and for the fans. We credit JJ Abrams and ABC with the ownership of Lost and all associated characters.

The doujinshi itself including all related art and text is copyright to their respective creators. Most of the text belongs to bastardized, and most of the art to adifferentdrum. The layout was composited by bastardized with images from Lost Media and adifferentdrum's creative process. Please ask us for our consent if you would like to use any of these images to make wallpapers, icons, other stories, etc. -- it'll give you and ourselves a bit of an ego-boost, and good will all around.

The mermaid quote is © P.J. Hogan, who wrote the screenplay for Peter Pan in 2003. I did consider using TS Elliot's Prufrock too.
